This was such a great UYE that Lou hosted. The food was delicious and the atmosphere really set the mood for me. I really liked how they had nice décor like ferns on the walls and it just looked as if it was very clean there. The people were nice and had high hospitality skills; they served us all that we could ask for and even treated us to complimentary ice cream. It’s also nice to see new and old Unilocalers there enjoying a tasty meal. Lou was kind to show me how to eat phở and the different kinds whether you like it wet or dry; phở is still good. I personally enjoyed the dry over the wet; it was filled with spices and fresh herbs. I ultimately had to order one of the banh mi and it was yummy; also at this location they serve fresh fruits for the smoothies and not that powdery stuff that most places serve up. The smoothies are so good; wow! Talk about natural sweetness in my mouth!!! Thanks again, Lou. I appreciated this.

I was inspired by a Unilocaler in Honolulu — Victoria M., who created a monthly phở UYE series«La Vie En ‘Phở’s’» in 2014. So, here is mine — I played on words and transformed folkloric with eating phở to Phokloric UYE. It started with a short conversation with Erin A. few weeks prior to this event. The conversation got longer. I thought, let’s meet in person at this restaurant on her bookmark — Phở Binh 59. Yeah. Better yet, let’s make it an UYE. In case you didn’t know, my UYE comes with a theme and a show-and-tell. Please watch my video on YouTube . In this presentation, everyone got a sample of the signature dish Phở Ga Kho in dry and wet versions of its signature roasted chicken noodles. I chose this Phở Binh location was because of the qualities in food and service. I know the owners Jae and Jake since they started this restaurant from the beginning. Also, I am familiar with their highly praised phở and fresh fruits smoothies. Although I couldn’t make a monthly phở UYE, but I want this Phokloric UYE tradition to continue year after year.

Pros: — Got to meet lots of cool Houston Unilocalers and their little ones — Ate delicious phở — Watched a demonstration of the final preparations/mixing of dry and wet chicken noodle – Lou C. is great at mixing sauces! — Got to try tendons and cold vegetables and other dishes that are too exotic for me to ever order for myself :-) — Tasty ice cream Cons: — Couldn’t stay the entire time

This was a great UYE hosted by Lou. The restaurant had a big table set up for us and several free samples of their food. The dry and wet(chicken) noodle samples and the wet(chicken) were definitely a hit, and Lou even showed us newbies how to properly prepare and eat them. Afterwards, the restaurant treated us with free ice cream! Definitely a fun time and a great new restaurant find.
