Been here many times over the past 3 years. Servers basically know what my group wants to order every time. Service is typical of Chinatown, if you come here expecting a fine dining experience you will be sorely disappointed. Otherwise, dishes give huge portions for a more than reasonable price. Seating can be a bit tough to find at Saturday lunch rush. If you happen to stop by feel free to try the salt and pepper squid. Everyone seems to love it when I bring them here.

Been here multiple times over the last few years and nothing has disappointed. Things to get: — Lamb Hot Pot — Mango Beef — Tofu with Mushrooms — Fried Sole Fish Food always comes in large family-style portions. Lunch dishes are cheap and filling(essentially same menu but at lunch prices). Cons: Staff gets a bit flustered when the restaurant is packed but do not hesitate to flag them down when needed. Seating in the restaurant is very packed in. You will get well acquainted with the table next to you. They also open late for all the late night food runs!

Very good! Will be back! Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon with family for a late lunch and it was delicious! They were busy but that did not negatively affect our experience. We had the vegetable noodle soup, mango beef, and sweet and sour beef plates. Tasty food, good service, and very reasonable prices. Will definitely return.

I love coming here late nights. It’s a good place to go if you want some place quiet to eat. Haven’t been disappointed with anything I ordered yet.

We recently discovered this place and we love it. This is the second time we have been here and we plan to come back for more. Food was great and so were the staff. They have so many variety and price is decent. We always ended up packing up to go. Love this place. Check out some of my photos below.

Came here for lunch with my boyfriend and I was disappointed, if you love that much cornstarch, Come eat here. He ordered Bo Kho with rice, turned out to be just tendon and curry over rice. No brisket like it said what so ever. I ordered Fried flat noodles with beef and Rau Cai, and it was super bland. Sauce was mainly cornstarch. Not coming back. Id rather go to House of Bowls

Like everyone says it’s an alternative to fufu’s. I was a huge fufu fan due to the late hours and cheap dishes. This place is also good as well. Less crowded and the servers are friendlier. Egg noodles 5⁄5 Yummmy it looks so good and tastes good as well. Got this bc of Unilocalers pictures. Glad I came across this. Clam chowder 1⁄5 I expected this. Lol but I was curious how they were going make it. Basically porridge with no sauce and clams. Egg drop soup 3⁄5 It was bit bland. It was alright.

Decided to write a review as I wait for my food. I like r’house, there will always be that discussion of which is better: r’house or fufus but in my opinion they’re both delicious except at r’ house you don’t have to wait. Things to get: –salt and pepper pork chops — green beans with minced pork — beef flat noodles — shrimp egg noodles — salt and pepper fish — salt and pepper anything — golden tofu For those who complain that the salt and pepper pork chop/fish/squid is salty… what is the first thing mentioned, did you expect it to be sweet? For those who complain service is lacking, IT’S CHINATOWN. Like I mentioned in a previous review, all they want to do is seat you, take your order and take your money. They don’t give two sh*ts if you think they’re rude. For lunch you can try dishes for $ 5.25, they have some popular ones on there!

PROS: Open late nights. Huge menu. Even bigger portions. CONS: SERVICE. I sat there, finished, for at least 15 minutes while servers walked by me, talking. I has pushed the food away, had started playing games on my phone, nothing. Finally, I walked to the back to the register where one woman was doing some accounting with an adding machine. I stood there for about two minutes before she acknowledged me. If I’m bothering you by coming to your restaurant, that’s cool. I won’t be back.

Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Legitimate Cantonese fare prepared quickly and efficiently. My go-to place for out-of-towners looking for an «authentic» Chinese place. Salt and pepper squid is a favorite of both kids.

Ordered General tso’s to go and it was ready in 10 min. The food was cheap and the decent. The chicken was good quality and didn’t have lots of cartilage, fatty pieces, or super thick breading. The sauce was so so had ok flavor but not very strong flavor. Overall the meal was good for $ 5. My search for great general tso’s around china town continues.

I’m shocked at how i haven’t reviewed this place yet. Yes it may be a fufu knockoff … but what restaurant isn’t considered a fufu knock off, when you could make the argument that all these restaurants put out the same dishes for the most part. but I like to think of it as a better improved version. R House, is smaller, cleaner, friendlier in my opinion. The service is quicker, the food just taste better to me. Price is around the same and its quiter. They also offer individual dished so thats nice, but family style all the way! My go to Birds Nest, Tofu Clay Pot, Walnut Shrimp, Salt and Pepper Squid, Crispy Chicken, Garlic Snow Peas!

I am a 26 year old veteran. In all my years of living, and all the people I have met, I have never felt so unwelcomed in my life. Nor have I ever been to a place that I really did not belong. Upon arrival, the restaurant was half full, so it wasn’t too much for the waitress to handle. Now, mind you, we got there at 845 and left at 1130pm. We did not get to eat… but I will get to that later. We sat down, and people were being seated before and after us. However, the people that came in after us somehow got served before we did. Actually, every single table got served before we did. The cook was free and he was in the front. He was an older Asian gentlemen. I guess he saw the depressed look on our faces. He came over to take our order, however, he did not speak a lick of english. We had to point at what we wanted on the menu. Again, no problem! The less english the more authentic right? I figured, maybe the lady was just having a bad day or something. My roommate(who also a veteran) ordered the spring rolls. They were mushy and disgusting on the inside. I’ve ate many spring rolls in my life, and this was NOT good. Okay, no problem. «Maybe it’s cantonese style» I thought. I got the seaweed salad which was topped with carrots and that was delicious. I ordered clay pot chicken. and I got a pot of rice. After waiting 20 minutes, the chicken came out in a hello kitty clay pot. it smelled DISGUSTING. It smelt that way because it was spoiled. I know that it is not«cantonese style» because I have finally fully recovered from food poisoning. I always take to go plates, but I did not want anything to do with this food. My roommate ordered beef, and somehow ended up with pork chops. I ate his pork chops because my food was very bad. However, my roommate can’t eat pork… the pork chops were accompanied by noodles in soup.(I remember now he ordered beef ramen). He said it taste like they dumped out a bunch of salty campbells noodle soup and served him that. I took a bite and was absolutely repulsed. it tasted like nothing. nothing coated with a ton of salt and stale noodle. It became more clear that we were not wanted there when we were sitting there trying to make eye contact with the waitress, and she was not giving us any attention. OH, but look! A table full of asian people! Let me serve them, get them their food, not refill our waters(we are both hispanic), not give us a to go plate, not even bother to go around(like she was the other table) and tend to their needs. After waiting so long, my roommate tried to touch her shoulder to get her attention. She shrugged him off like a 5 year old and kept walking. So we went to the counter and asked for the check and a to go plate. We had a ton of food, because most of it wasn’t eaten. I was thinking I would give my other roommate some to try and see what she thought. But she gave me the smallest cup they had for all their food. When she came to give us our check, she basically dropped it like it was a mic and walked off stage. I feel really bad about it because we didn’t do anything to deserve this. I had been to chinatown many times to sing karaōke or hang out at bar and bites with my friends and teammates… I have never ever had that problem. I felt bad because I ranted and raved about how awesome chinatown is, and convinced my roommate to come out of the house. We drove really far just to get treated like two pieces of poo. I will never eat here again, nor will I ever come back to the area.

I can pretty sum up this whole review in the following phrase: «fufu’s café wannabe» That’s pretty much what this place is. This is where you go when you don’t really want to wait for fufu’s because you came late and the place is packed during lunch rush.(Which is exactly what happened and how we ended up here). The main problem was, it just wasn’t as good as Fufu’s next door! I mean, why would you pay around the same price for food that’s not as good and service that takes longer. You could definitely tell that the food was subpar and many of their flavors were very industrialized and it seemed like frozen foods. We ordered the shrimp and walnuts, Satay Chinese broccoli(cailan), sweet and sour chicken, and fried fish nuggets. The portions were small and the taste wasn’t all that great and the food, while it wasn’t cold, wasn’t hot either. It also annoyed me that the food came out before the rice did… What are you supposed to do, eat white rice as a dessert?!? The pricing was about the same as Fufu’s(~$ 5/plate) for their lunch special, but for the same price, I expect the same quality. The service was expected for any Chinese restaurant, you go for the food not the service. I was mildly disappointed that the service was slower than that at fufu’s though. I think next time, I’ll just wait in line for fufu’s. This place wasn’t really worth it.

Always always love this place! The owner is so friendly. She’s always so happy to see us when we come back. Food is amazing if you know what to order. My favorite dish is the golden tofu. If you don’t like tofu, you still need to try it. It has more of an egg flavor than a tofu flavor. I think it’s something like tofu mixed with egg and fried. Seriously could just eat that and only that for a whole meal. Garlic bean leaves are great! Black pepper steak, normally very good, but sometimes the taste varies. It may be different chefs. Basil clams and pepper clams, amazing. Just make sure to ask if they’re big at the time. Today we came in with our own lobsters. My SO’s mom bought some huuuge lobsters at HEB, and the owner agreed to cook them for us. Omg the guy with the hat who cooked them is an artist of sorts. The lobsters were perfection. One was cooked in ginger scallion sauce with crispy noodles and the other was salt & pepper toasted. Both were just superb. If you ever visit and feel like it was okay, you have to go back to try different dishes and give them a second chance. Some of the waitresses may not be the easiest to communicate, — there used to be one rude lady who didn’t speak much English but haven’t seen her in a while — but there are some younger waiters who speak English well and are super friendly.

Food: 3.5÷5 Ambiance: 3⁄5 Service: 3⁄5 Food is okay. Service was lacking a little but we went on Christmas Eve so it was probs just busier than usual. The servers brought out the first dish before bringing the rice and we were almost done with the dish before they realized they forgot/we could flag them down to get rice. They weren’t able to make a few dishes we wanted that were on their menu. The oxtail stone pot stew was good. A decent amount of oxtail.

It just might be an acquired taste when it comes to the vegetables they use in their chicken and vegetable bird nest bowl. Being that the bowl is made of fried onions, but those vegetables destroyed every taste bud in my mouth. Also I really don’t know anytime that another restaurant has ever messed up shrimp fried rice but they managed to somehow achieve a new level of disgusting. I only took 3 bites before calling it quits on the fried rice. The shrimp stunk like it was days or weeks over due and not at all fresh. I felt sick trying to force myself to eat it because I was so hungry. The service was bad as well and I had to walk up to ask for the bill, once they brought it back they watched as I was writing the tip and signing. Literally glaring at my hand and the paper. I will never go here again and I regret going in the first place. Worst experience ever…

We just randomly stumbled upon this place and the food turned out to be really good. We had tomato and egg, salt toasted squid, hunan fish, and stir-fry spinach. All had really great flavors and the fried foods were extra crispy! My only complaints would be service. I know Asian restaurants are known for bad service, but the restaurant was not busy and although the waitresses were nice, I had to ask for things(like utensils, to-go box) several times before I walked up to the cashier. Also, the food came out pretty quickly but the spinach came out 10 – 15 minutes later. Despite the service, my hubby has been eyeing other patrons’ dishes and is dying to come back to try them.

I’m a regular here for many years and I always introduce this place to my friends because I’m a fan. It has this home-cooked meal feeling to it, and I’m always comfortable when I come late at night with a empty stomache. Then open pretty late. I always order the same thing. Either Spicy Chicken with Rice or Beef/Tomato/Egg and Rice for only less than $ 7. They always laugh at me cause I seriously rarely order anything else. Been doing this for more than 3 years. Their portions for food here is always huge! Keep that in mind and the price is great. I don’t know what the hype is with Fu Fu Café, but I was never a fan there. I tried to give that place a try with the Shrimp Walnut, but it disappointed me. BUTHERE, you can get a Shrimp Walnut that is in good size and crispy. So don’t be shy, and give this place a shot. They deserve the attention. Just a tip: They recently changed their policy which you need $ 10 minimum for credit card charge.

Language barrier could be problem here, I just pointed at what I wanted. I will say this is not the cleanest place to eat but the food is so dang good, with no problems later in the day… if you know what I mean. I love going here with my coworkers.
