RadioShack? Your friendly neighborhood one-stop-shop for electrical emergencies! They all look about the same. You walk in and are confronted with all sorts of low-end electronic appliances and toys along with phone accessories. I ain’t into phone bling, so why do I keep on returning here? There are a myriad of reasons: Reason #1: A yellow light is showing on the control panel of your home alarm system. What does that mean? You look up the 1 – 800 number for your security provider to call and ask. It seems the backup battery that prevents thieves from just cutting your electrical supply to break in has gone dead. It’s located in a box in the back of an upstairs closet and is a big ol’ bulky thing. Where do you get one of those? Five minutes later, you’re at RadioShack. Fifteen minutes later the new battery is installed and that yellow light turns back to green. Voila! Reason #2: You can’t find the plug that fits your car’s DC power source that will keep your child’s DVD player running during an all-day road trip. What to do? Go straight to the counter at RadioShack. Show the helpful, knowledgeable staff your DVD player. It turns out there are over a dozen connector types that provide power to these devices. They have a sample of each. In less than a minute you find the appropriate plug for your device and buy the generic plug that fits the receptacle in your car. How do I know it works? No problem — they have a DC power source installed right at the counter to check these things. It works like a charm! Reason #3: You leave your phone charger in a far-off hotel room and your charge indicator is down to one bar. RadioShack to the rescue! They sell an all-purpose phone charger that just requires a custom tip that fits your phone. They have one for every brand. Reason #4: The wireless router for your home network goes kaput. Your teenage daughter is whining that she can’t get into Facebook. Fix it, Dad! The additional gas you’d burn driving to Fry’s to get one of these for really cheap would offset the savings. They have a dozen different types at RadioShack. One of ‘em happens to be on sale. I’ll take it! An hour later my new network is up and running with WEP encryption installed. Yeah! When you enter RadioShack, don’t even bother to try finding anything by yourself. Just go straight to the counter. Chances are you’ll get what you want and be out of there in less than 10 minutes. Veni, vidi, vici…
