When I worked downtown I went to this location a few times. Overall it is not bad. I keep looking for gumbo that is as good as mama’s. I have yet to find it. This location gets really busy and the line gets very long. I suggest you get there either early or late to avoid a super long line. I am not one to go sit with folks I do not know and their tables force you to do just that. Not a popular thing for me. Halley puppy sits up and nods her head with approval.

Average cajun food and in my opinion, overpriced entrees. Being in the tunnels downtown your options can be limited on places to eat with adequate seating. My catfish entrée was $ 14 and left me still hungry. Maybe I should have gotten a po-boy that would have been more filling. Food wasn’t bad but wasn’t great. Rajin Cajun can get very busy during peak lunch hour so unless you like to sit shoulder to shoulder with people you don’t know, I’d suggest eating somewhere else. There are better options in the food court across where you can get full for less than $ 15.

So I’m currently on a mission to finally try the restaurants in the downtown tunnels and conquer my fear of getting lost during my lunch break t work. Ragin Cajun was one of my first stops. I really enjoyed my visit here. It was such a great vibe — there was a live band playing jazz music outside the doors, and there were people handing out Mardi Gras beads at the cash register. They also offer several specials throughout the week that are at a great value. I settled with the«downtown special» — half a seafood po-boy, gumbo, and a drink — for $ 12.99. Crawfish Po-boy(2.5÷5) — Average. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it. The crawfish didn’t have enough Cajun flavor like I’m used to. The bread was a little hard and stale. Chicken and sausage gumbo(4⁄5) — I didn’t expect to like the gumbo here as much as I really did. There was a good amount of meat and veggies in the gumbo, and it was tasty and flavorful. A little bit on the salty side, but I still really enjoyed the flavor. The service here was ridiculously fast and impressive. We ordered, and before I finished getting my drink and finding a seat, the food was ready. As soon as I finished my food, they picked up the dishes. The place was packed, so that was definitely impressive. Pretty decent food with a great atmosphere and quick service! I would definitely return some time.

I love this place!!! I eat there every Wednesday for Gumbo day! The staff is friendly and the GM is awesome. It is a little pricey for lunch, but well worth it.

Average Service but Plenty of decent food for the money. You’ll get a lot of food for the money in the Basket items on the menu. Compared to choices in the downtown tunnels this is one of the better places.

Love the soft shell crab po boy. The seasoned fries are pretty good. I also like the atmosphere. A few long tables and sit where you wish. There is a lot of variety, but I stick to the winner for me.

I love that there is a Ragin Cajun down in the tunnels of Downtown! I am a big Cajun food fan but I always forget to hit up Ragin Cajun. I came here during my first week at my new Downtown job and ordered the buffalo crawfish«salad». The«salad» is not in quotes on the menu, but seriously, it’s totally a cheat salad. Deep fried and buffalo sauce drenched crawfish on lettuce? hahah puh-lease. That being said, it’s quite delicious. The salad has a Caesar dressing and a hug portion of buffalo crawfish. I ate every last bite. Be sure to sign up for their mailing list. In my opinion there prices are a little high, so getting a coupon emailed every once and a while is a great way to shave a few dollars off your bill.

Food was okay at best. Nothing spectacular. A bit overpriced for what they give you. The oyster poboy tasted as good as Popeye’s yet cost twice as much. The gumbo was subpar and the jambalaya had so much spice and seasoning you couldn’t really taste it. The bread pudding was not good at all. Only plus was the speed of service and the Crystal light lemonade.

Slightly better quality than fast food for slightly more money than fast food. I don’t live in Houston and I don’t understand the appeal of the tunnels. None of the stuff down there seemed especially worthwhile. But again, maybe I’m just a naïve out-of-towner. I suppose compared to the other windowloess underground food options, Ragin Cujun may be among the top choices.

$ 13.00 almost for my food without a beverage. FRIENDLY staff! Delicious Seafood(SODARNFRESH!). One of the best cocktail sauces I ever tasted. But… The shrimp were small as hell! I think they were like the 26⁄30 count? I only had like 10 or less pieces! LOL! Honestly… I should’ve been paying half. Suggestion: THESHRIMPNEEDTOBEBIGGER!(JUMBOORPRAWNS)

Great sandwiches, the roast beef with spicy gravy is my favorite. The gumbo is good, i would prefer a bit more seafood in it. Fried shrimp, oyster etc is all nicely done. I like this place. The manager and staff work their butts off to do a good job. Good place for a Friday lunch in the tunnel.

I got a lunch special that was decidedly mediocre and a side of hushpuppies. The hushpuppies were a disappointment; I think I’m spoiled after Buz and Neds’. I won’t be going back.

Downtown’s Ragin Cajun is really close to my job. I love the idea of having good Cajun for lunch here and there. I want to feel like I’m dining in New Orleans for an hour, miles away from work. But after visiting a few times all hyped up to have my Louisiana fantasy, Ragin’s just not meeting my expectations. The po boys I’ve had were too bland. All three; boudin, shrimp and turkey. Perhaps that’s the problem right there. Not ordering the right stuff. I need to come back when I’m in the mood for gumbo or(if I can ever allow myself to spend $ 15 on) a fish entrée. I really like the restaurant. I like the long picnic tables. I like the stack of sauces available including an in house pepper sauce. I like that they have IBC rootbeer fountain drink style. I love the smell emanating from the kitchen. Mmm. I’m going to get my fantasy one of these days. There’s too much I like to not keep trying.

With the discovery of BB’s Café, I need to knock this review down. Besides, really the only thing I like here is the shrimp poboy, and BB’s is much better.

Expect to pay at least $ 10 for lunch here… and that’s just for the sandwich. In all honesty, the sandwich is quite filling. It’s served on a ginormous bun which really throws off the bread: stuffing ratio. Too much bread for me. The fries are fine but that’ll tip your lunch to be more like $ 13. I work on the south side of downtown so if I’m going to walk a while to eat lunch, I’d rather eat at another place over Ragin Cajun… like Treebeard’s.

I’m a relatively new convert to crawfish; I saw the light at a crawfish boil last year. Since then, I’ve been on the hunt for the best crawfish place in Houston, and Ragin’ is it so far. Huge, delicious bucket of perfectly seasoned, spicy, messy crawfish, with corn, potatoes and french bread. The bread isn’t always the freshest, but who cares? You’re there for the crawfish. Order a Corona, bring a friend, and go to town.

Ragin Cajun is one of those places that you have to try at least once. I got hooked on this place since I get amazing discounts on my meals. They have $ 5 coupons and if you join the downtown tunnels McKinney Place frequent dinner club(for free) you get another set of $ 5 coupons which can be used. I end up never paying more that 1 or 2 bucks for my lunch. I started getting the a la carte items, then now I get the po-boy, gumbo and boudin selections. Everything is fresh and their customer service is not bad at all. All in all, I would recommend this place if you decide to eat there often. They have take out and delivery in addition to dining in.
