This place brings back memories from when my sister used to buy me a mamon after school. I remember only eating the original one but noticed that they also offered mocha and ube in addition to the original. Obviously we had to try them all. Other reviews mentioned that the mamons were dry but all of mine weren’t. They were still good and moist even after a few days. All three flavors were tasty but I liked the original the best. I haven’t tried anything else from the bakery but the mamons are a must try.

I enjoy coming here for a quick nostalgic snack! I actually came here at the end of finals week for a little #treatyoself They have their selection of mamon, Ensymada, pandesal, cakes and other Filipino baked goods. For the price and taste, I would say Nothing beats homemade, but these are pretty yummy and Hits the spot when you want to grab something on the go. I love taking the Ensymada home to toast it up a bit and get the generous helping of cheese on top all melty! Give the mango and Ube cakes a try as well!

Please open a location in the Dallas Fort Worth Metro area. Love the Houston location and it is a must stop everytime we visit there. Disagree on comments by Abie L. from San Antonio who is offended by everything, I think she came to Houston having a bad day. The food and pastries here are as good as any proud Filipino offerings. the Folks are courteous and very helpful everytime I visited. People are naturally curious and Texas Filipinos are just trying to be friendly. Totoo naman na magaganda at pogi ang mga mistiso or half LoL hay naku

My first visit to a Red Ribbon. I hear about this from commercials on TFC and friends. So I decided to go while I was in town. Note: We came from San Antonio. Finding this place is AWFUL! GPS and so many roads breaking up into 5 different lanes is HORRIBLE! We made 5 Circles around before we found it. We parked and walked in. Yes we were welcome by the employees as we walked in the door. They had a rack of baked good ready to purchase. Then they had a small refrigerated display full of cakes. I was expecting such a big variety of pastries but I was wrong. They only had a few items(like 10) for sale. The Mango cake looked nothing like the one on TV. It looked like they put dried mangos into the icing of the cake. The young lady at the register looked at me and asked me if I was Half. I felt a little offended. Half what? I asked her. Filipino she states. I told her no i’m not. No one likes to be greeted by asking what their ethnicity is. This is one of my biggest pet peeve of the filipino culture. WHOCARES!!! Why is this a NEED to KNOW? She assume i’m half WHY? Is she profiling me? Why is this so important? I“m sorry that just really pissed me off. Not all Filipinos look the same. Not all have white skin like Michael Jackson. Filipinos are meant to be brown we are from a tropical place. Anyways. … She also asked me when I came here and I said here? I arrived yesterday from San Antonio, Texas. Then she asked me America. Then I told her I was born and raised in California. At this point I felt like she wanted to know my address, phone number and SSN. She finished my transaction and my children and I left with our bake goods. My daughter said it was OK.(Ube Mamon) I have yet to try it myself. I do take my daughters word for things since we are both foodies. 1 star for facilities 1 star for limited bake goods 0 stars for service since she pissed me off about asking me if I was half? Half what? 0 star no restrooms available.(This is just a pick up and leave bakery) 0 Star overall since finding this place was AWFUL. Maybe its better to just order online rather visiting this location.

Please don’t go here. Please please please… especially if you’re not Filipino. I don’t want you to think that this is what Filipino baked goods are like! The ube cake is dry. The mamon is dry. Everything is as dry as my elbows. This is a bakeshop that is trucking along with dry cakes and pastries. How is it even a franchise? How is it competing with other Filipino bakeries that punch them in the throat with their soft and moist alternatives? If I had to have an ube cake roll to save my life and the only option was Red Ribbon, I would NOT do it. Neither should you.

I love red ribbon! The pandasal(bread rolls) are so good and freshly made. I also like the sponge cake –mamon and Empanadas and ensemada and the mango bar The only think I dislike is the calories! The cakes are good and ready made for a party! I like the ube cake and Mercedes Place takes credit and has a lot of parking Downside this rr has no seats it’s literally just a bakery I miss red ribbon palabock! Other locations have the Filipino food at the bakery but this one does not Overall place is awesome, reasonably priced and reminds me of home :)

After a very mediocre lunch right next door at Jollibee, my husband and I came here for some traditional Filipino sweets. As a native Houstonian, I remember the original Goldilocks(Red Ribbon’s main competitor in the Philippines) that used to be in the city and had high hopes for this place. There used to also be a Red Ribbon a few years ago that was a full service restaurant and bakery. The food and pastries were delicious as well. Unfortunately, I was disappointed when coming here. This place is incredibly small and the prepackaged pastries, in my opinion, were very limited. Your usual staples such as ensaymada, mamon, and pan de sal were, of course, among the variety available, but I was sorely disappointed. Upon tasting them at home, while very soft, they were overly wet with the butter and condensation. Were they packaged too soon after baking? Who knows. Either way, I was unimpressed. I live on the west side of Houston and there is no way I would make another trip out here for those kind of pastries. I’d rather go to the Filipino restaurants around here that sell the same kind of pastries but are of better quality and freshness. I wasn’t able to try any of the cakes(which Filipino chiffon-style cakes are usually very tasty) but they did look very good. For that reason, I may come back but only if I’m in the area. I have no plans to make a special trip just for this place.

When I think bakery, I think local and fresh– things that make me drool the moment I open the door and dream of dancing cookies at night. The moment my sister and I walked in, I could tell the little excited kid inside her died a bit(sorry, Connie! D:). The majority of these breads seemed to have been shipped in from somewhere(sealed packages, like the ones around shelf-stable products) and were cold /refrigerated. Don’t be fooled by that radioactive purple ube bread; if I closed my eyes, I could barely tell it was purple yam. Nice little mediocre sponge cake though~ ^^’ Chicken empanadas are meh, thick floury/doughy shell(but the filling had raisins, yay?). It’s an itty bitty store with okay-tasting goodies if you want to stop by, but definitely not worth a special trip! Friendly workers though: D

After eating at Jolibee I stopped by to check out Red Ribbon. Apparently this is what EVERYONE does as I saw many other Jolibee diners, buying bags of mamons, cakes, and empanadas. I followed suit and bought a slice of Ube Overload, Ube Mamon, Butter Mamon, and a beef empanada to try out. The butter mamon reminded me of a fluffy version of a Sara Lee pound cake, which is nice. Since I’m already an ube fan I enjoyed the cake and mamon much more than any of the other baked goods. Lastly the empanada… aka meaty Pop-Tart. I wasn’t feeling it at all. The stuffing is a gravy-like which gave me the feeling of eating canned dog food. All in all it was fun to try out a few of their items especially the ube flavored ones. However if you want an after meal treat, head over to Pugon de Manilla instead.

I stopped in Red Ribbon to check it out. It’s located right next to Jollibee. This shopping center has become a little Filipino center. When you walk in you will see racks full of prepackaged breads. People working the counter are nice. Ask them what is popular and they will tell you. I tried the cheese sweet bun in a package. Soft bread and not too sweet. Not sure what I was expecting but cheese didn’t really taste like much. Overall, this bakery is not bad. I wouldn’t make a special trip for it, but if I’m eating Jollibee and want something sweet afterwards, I’ll give them another try.

I grew up on the West Coast, so I am a Goldilocks girl. So, when everyone was excited about Red Ribbon opening up in Houston, I was not at the front of the flock. Nevertheless, in a city where Goldilocks is non-existent, it is nice to have a international bakery where I can purchase baked goods to nom nom nom down on. The cakes and mamon are good — yes. Everyone knows that. Who can go wrong with mango, or ube, or soft mamon with cheese, butter and suger? DROOOL. What I was surprised at were the Filipino empanadas — chicken and pork varieties. I bought one of each and, to my surprise, they were pretty darn good! The crust was flaky and not too thick, and even though there were raisins in the filling, I did not mind. Screw the baked goods, I am coming back for those empanadas! PS: What I do think would be good is if they had some more seating and maybe a coffee/tea bar so people could sit and enjoy their goodies. This review is based on my personal experience and all statements made herein reflect my personal opinion only. Your experience may be completely different.

My mum had been wanting me to try the Mango Cake for a time now, so on my birthday we headed over to this place. All of her nurse friends had been telling her about how good the cakes at this bakery is. The Mango cake was OK – literally it had the most lightest taste to it. It didn’t enough mango in it. Oh and the ube(purple yam) cake didn’t even have a taste at all. It was bland. The lady who was the cashier was clueless about everything. She didn’t understand English either. She responded with an «I don’t know» for every question we asked her regarding the cakes that they had. She had no idea about how the mango cake taste, what the ube cake was, or about how much the cake was. It was really strange. honestly I was thinking«you work here, you are Filipino, and you have no idea about anything. How frustrating!» The bakery is cute with the modern décor and bright colors.(2 stars for the unique Mango cake and a star for the décor.)

Finally got to grab some goodies from here as it is also conveniently located next to Jollibee’s. I decided to try out the butter mamon(a butter sponge cake) since it was highly recommended. I had initially thought it would be baked fresh and out, but instead, it was already pre-packaged. Grabbed one and while I was standing in line to pay a lady had bought tons of empanadas. Why not, I got one to try also. Then cashier lured me into trying a slice of their best well known dessert in there, the mango cake. I then realized I’m easily suckered into food! To me, the best item surprisingly turned out to be the spicy beef empanada. The crust was kind of sweet(which I like), but it was freshly made and the flavors of the beef and stuffing inside really came together. I would definitely go back and get one again. As for the mango cake, it was $ 2 a slice(you can also get a bigger whole cake for a party for $ 20 w/a 20% discount right now!) They also sell other flavors, such as, ube cake which is a purple yam and black forest cakes. The cake was moist and soft, but it didn’t have as much mango inside as I thought it would and had a lot of cream. I actually prefer some of the Asian bakeries w/more fresh mangoes. The butter mamon had a good soft texture, but it really didn’t stick out to me when compared to some other sponge cakes I’ve had.

I’m a nurse in the med center and through work have become increasingly familiar with the Filipino culture and foods. My Filipino friends/coworkers introduced me to this bakery and there’s no going back now. Friendly professional service, this place looks clean and is very well managed. I am hooked on the mamon cakes!!! For those who don’t know a mamon is a Filipino version of sponge cake. Very soft and tasty… my favorite is the butter and mocha flavors!!!

The mamons are soft, light and fluffy; both the butter and ube flavors are yummy and not too sweet. To those who love ube(sweet, purple yam)-flavored stuff, I would highly recommend the ube mamons. One has just gotta try it personally to know how delicious this little purple sponge cake can be! If you do not quite enjoy purple yam, get the butter mamon that smells sooooo buttery good but is not greasy at all! On the cream cakes, the ube overload looks cute and tastes pretty good as well, but the mango cream cake is not mango-ey enough and tastes kinda bland. One star knocked off from this review is because of the cheese ensaïmada that is simply a dinner roll topped with shredded cheese, and yes, it is boring *shrugs* Oh well, I know for sure that i’m not getting the ensaimada next time. I still love you lots, though, Red Ribbon!

This review is from an Filipina-American point of view ya’ll. I am literally typing up this review at home while munching on the coconut macaroons after finishing up the chicken empanada. I am in a very content state at this very moment… :) Anyways, down to the review. Location: Right next to Jollibee and Pugon de Manila. Perfect to get pastries or a cake after eating some chicken joy and traditional Filipino food. Inside of Bakery: Bright red, small space, and seems very limited of carrying some of my favorite pastries. No tables and seating available. It felt a little cramped and rushed to just go and get what you need instead of browsing around. Maybe a possible expansion in the future? The goods: No more Ensaymada on the second day :(but thankfully they will have more next week! They get a huge shipment of goods apparently from California as one of the workers told me. But it’s all good. The coconut macaroons are perfect in texture, tasty, and can be eaten heated up or straight out of the package! They offer chicken and beef empanadas for $ 2.39 each. A little pricey for one to be honest. Size wise, they were as big as my tiny hand. But I had the chicken one just now and it was so delicious! Flakey crust and stuff well with chicken and raisins just like how I always remember Filipino empanadas. I am a huge fan of empanadas that are especially flakey :) Even better when they’re warm! Service: Friendly and welcoming. Feels like I’m back in California or at a Red Ribbon in The Philippines. I love how they offered a sample of the coconut macaroons and some explanation of their pastries to non-Filipino customers that came in. The star off goes to the limited and cramp space with no seating or tables. As well as I don’t they sell traditional Filipino comfort foods like Arroz Caldo, Dinuguan, or Halo-Halo like they do in the Red Ribbons in California. A little bummed they didn’t sell Ensaymadas, Ube Mamon, Mango Bars, and other pastries I wanted when I came in on the second day. I’ll for sure be back and update! I’m looking forward to trying their Ube overload and Mango cakes as well as stocking up in the other goods. Especially after seeing too many commercials of Red Ribbon on TFC when you hang out with your lola and lolo(grandma and grandpa). Overall, It’s nice to have a little bit of home and your culture not too far away of a drive in Houston, TX. I have a strong feeling that Chow King, another Filipino favorite, will be on it’s way soon!
