Really enjoyed the concert here, good sound. Other things to know, seating is a flat floor, stage is not that high, so it is hard to see. They really need a higher stage for this setup. Folding chairs are locked together tight, close, not very wide, and rows are not staggered. The man next to me had about 30−50% of my space until he traded with his girl. If you eat nearby before hand, there are long waits. There are snacks at the theater including popcorn, pizza, and drinks. There are no quick places nearby to eat that we could tell.

Came on a Saturday night for a Macklemore & Ryan Lewis concert. It was very easy and quick to get through security. Bathrooms were clean and plentiful by the entrance. Bar was cheap. Huge standing venue on the ground floor. We got to the show a little late and managed to get a decent spot on the side in the front half. Several outside bars within walking distance for post show. What else would you want from a concert venue?

Great venue and acoustics. The seats are affordable and comfortable and there is a good amount of drink options all over the venue. Beware: you can’t bring your umbrella in! I had to throw the one I had in my purse away.

Went to a Maklemore concert last night and had so much fun at Revention! Great security, fast ticket line, and an overall great energy! The only problem I had was that it seemed to get a little hot the 2nd half of he show. But other then that, I can’t wait to be back here.

Pretty cool, new and modern looking place. I really appreciate the large selection of beer on draft, definitely a huge positive. The bathrooms were nice, the stalls look like they’re made of reclaimed wood for a cool rustic but new look. So why only 2 stars?! Firstly, for the type of show I saw, one where you are seated the entire time rather than a music concert, it was terrible. Unless you’re in the first row, everyone’s view is obstructed by the person and persons in front. There is no slope, except for the second level which has built in sloping seats. The first level, however, consisted of folding chairs all on one plane. Not only that but there are poles right in front of some seats! Just not the right venue for a sit down show at all! Big bummer! The second reason I am only giving this place 2 stars… 30 minutes in to the show the seats next to me are empty. I’m thinking ok doesn’t look like they’re coming, I’m going to scoot over a seat(one seat to the right that’s all!) to see if I get a better view. Hmm slightly better, cool. 15 minutes later(45 minutes into the show) 2 people show up to claim their seats. All right, I’ll move back, no big deal right? Wrong, the employee seating them starts yelling and shining a flash light in my face(during the show) disturbing everyone, telling me I’m not a nice person because I stole their seats and why would I do such a terrible thing?! I tell her, sorry we didn’t think they were coming and I’m moving back over a seat. She continues to tell me I’m rude etc etc. The employee acted like I had snuck in to the theatre and wrongly stolen someone’s seat! Everyone else around me during this scene were telling her to be quiet because she’s disturbing the show. I honestly still can’t quite believe this happened, very unprofessional and just uncalled for.

came to watch dancing with the stars. purchased a floor seat(this is the seat at level with the stage. HORRIBLEHORRIBLEHORRIBLE!!! remember sitting in the center of the auditorium during your high school graduation? that’s exactly what these seats were like. portable folding chairs with barley any space between the rows. an economy airplane seat has more space! and if a fat or tall person sits in front of you, you are screwed. NEVERNEVERNEVER!

This venue has undergone a number of name changes, it was Verizon, Bayou Center, and now Revention. The set up has been the same, top notch stage up front, very spacious floor area for mostly standing room shows, then a balcony with comfortable(but limited) seating. Outside the show room are the bars, snacks, merch, etc. It’s an ideal set up in that you can hang out outside the main room if you’re not into the opening band or just want a breather. The location(Theatre District) is good and bad. It’s right near Hard Rock Café and a number of other evening food and entertainment places. Parking is tricky if you’re competing with another event. We always just pay the $ 5 — $ 10 for the underground parking, not worth trying something else. This place is more diligent than most on searching patrons going in, so keep that in mind if you carry a pocket knife or think you’re going to sneak in some booze. It is nice that security is high, keeps away trouble. The sound system is as good as it comes, just the right volume and filling the space. I like sitting in the seated balcony, but many patrons would feel like they’re missing the action. There’s also a VIP area lower level behind the floor(new for Revention vs. previous iterations). That would be ideal but I’m sure comes with a price tag. The floor can get slippery if/when drinks are spilled(or spares tossed away for not wanting to lose their spot). I’ve seen some trips and falls so you might want to pick shoes that grip better. They get shows you would think for this venue. Shows you’ve heard on the radio or comedians on TV, but not the level that would fill Toyota Center or more. I like the smaller venues to see non-prime acts and this place delivers. So in summary, if you want to see a show here, know that the venue will meet or exceed your expectation, arrive early for traffic and parking, don’t bring any contraband, and enjoy what the Houston night life has to offer!

The location is convenient. The sound is okay. The mixed drinks and service in general suck. They don’t really have a «last call», so I bought a drink about 10 minutes before the show ended, then I was ushered out with a full($ 18) drink to dispose of. Rude.

Saw AWOLNATION and sat in the upper deck seating. Smallest seats I’ve ever encountered. An average size adult barely fits, as in can barely squeeze into the seat. Worse than being on an airplane. And forget about any arm or leg room! There was a railing at eye-level about a foot between our seats and the stage, however, there was no «obstructed view» warning when I purchased the tickets. We had to stand to see the band clearly. Also there are no other tables, chairs, benches, or railings in the entire place. Even though it’s indoors, it’s extremely hot and humid, like being at the pavilion. No mention of an opening act and there turned out to be two, so the band didn’t take the stage until almost 2 ½ hours after the concert started. The lights and other effects were fantastic. Feels like a safe place with plenty of security should there be a need. We used Über so not sure how the parking is. We won’t be back unless we sit in the VIP/booth section. It’s just too cramped and uncomfortable.

I’ve been to this place many times for concerts and dance performances. In the six years that I have lived in Houston, this place has gone through three name changes. It is still pretty much the same place as it was years ago(not a bad thing). I will say that with this recent name change to Revention, they also made some renovations to the building. The merch table is now moved to the right side of the floor area where one of the bars used to be. In place of the old merch area is another bar. I think this is a good thing because having the merch table right by the entrance caused a lot of bottle-necking. I noticed some of the décor has changed and I believe they have added booths where the old VIP section used to be. This place is a nice venue. Sound is usually good and the floor is really spacious. I’ve only been to concerts with a GA floor. There’s plenty of space to move around and there really aren’t any view obstructions so that’s nice. I have sat in the balcony for dance performances and some of the side sections do have an obstructed view. The middle sections have a great view though so I always try to get seats there if I know I will be sitting in the balcony. The staff is usually pretty friendly and helpful. They have a good selection of craft beer as well as a full bar. As with any music venue, drinks are pricey. I’ve never had the concessions, but I would imagine they’re just like any other concessions you would find at a venue. Parking can be an issue if there are multiple events going on in the Theater District. The last show I went to(last week) fell on a Saturday night in which multiple events were scheduled. It took me 15 minutes to get inside the parking garage(garage 7) and find a spot. I still had to pick up tickets from will call so I was cutting it close, but I did make it to the show before it started. You can find street parking, but make sure to read the street signs closely. I think the traffic also gets backed up now that they have expanded the rail system. Plan accordingly so you aren’t late to the show.

We went to see the Garbage concert and it was great. We paid for VIP Parking which included a special entrance and access to the Jack Daniels Lounge. The extra money was totally worth it because we had quick access to the bar and a fast exit from the venue. However, the bartender sucked and did not know how to make a Kamikaze. I told her what was in it and she made it. It was okay. We got the rest of our drinks from the upstairs bars. The Venue was a little ghetto and needs to be renovated. The workers were really nice and it was as clean as it could have been with as old as it seems to be. It’s like a bad knock off of HOB. The drink prices were reasonable. The sound system was good and I would go to see another concert there.

I have been here several times and I have never had the need to really write a thoughtful review until now. My experience is usually all good. I pregame at a friends house and then we stumble into our über cars and made haste. I still did that when I saw Marina and the Diamonds last night. But something unnecessary happened. My friends and I were sitting on the second level in the back/center. The concert begins and 2 songs in this unintelligent Neanderthal stands up in front of me and yells in my face«you have been f***ing talking this entire time and you are ruining this concert for me». I at first thought this was obviously sarcasm. Badly timed sarcasm but still this guy couldn’t be serious. He was livid. Yelling back at him(because we were at a concert and people were screaming) I told him that it made no sense what so ever that my talking was bothering him since there where hundreds of people around us screaming for Marina. He stood in front of me because for some reason that was a protest against my talking, blocking also the people behind me. I rolled my eyes so far back and at this point I almost had an aneurism. The usher comes over and tries to come this lunatic down. He wasn’t having it. As she came up to me I explained to her what was going and and she told me that she understood. Any person with logical thought would know that anyone bothered by talking at a loud music concert was absolutely absurd. She was very kind and patient about the whole situation. She told me that they had empty seats and if I felt uncomfortable they had closer seats to the stage where they could put my friends and I. I accepted and what started out as complete nonsense became a blessing in disguise. We moved closer and had a wonderful time. Better actually that we would have had if we stayed next to yelling man in front of me making an ass out of himself in public. The reason why this place deserves 5 stars is because they have their shit together. This literally happened over the course of 5 mins. The situation was hostile and quickly defused. That shows good management, it shows professionalism, and it shows that they know how to hire good employees. They not only have my business for future concerts but they have given me a sense of security when I patron their establishment.

Decent spot for a live concert. Came here once so far. Bathrooms seemed clean enough considering the amount of people in and out of them. They makes a decent drink though with a generous pour… at least the guy who served me did. That’s a plus. My complaint is that their seems to be one too many chairs in each row. Seating is *TIGHT*! Kind of don’t want to sit with my thigh touching the thigh of the stranger next to me. So many slide that one chair out so those of us with personal space issues can enjoy a show without panicking. Speaking of the sweating, maybe add about 6 inches or so between each row. Would be nice to wiggle through the rows without my backside on the head of the people in the row in front of me. I bit of air conditioning would be nice! I felt like I was watching the concert outside on one of this days with record-high temperatures and humidity. Dang-near sweated to death.

So this music venue is fine… I’ve been here three times and yeah, heard music. I’m not sure what else there is to say about it. If you get lucky you can find free street parking, but most people end up having to park in the garage.

The good thing is that all the seats in the venue have relatively good views. The bad thing is the seats are very close to each other you almost have to pin your arms to your side. The venue is kind of uncomfortable but we came all this way to see Damien Rice in concert so we just sucked it up. He is absolutely amazing, btw. Also, our seats were 205 row C which renders a superb view of the entire music venue. However photography/videography from this point is near impossible to get a clear shot. Also, note that the prices for snacks are high. I paid 12 dollars for a bottled water and popcorn. Overall though we had a nice evening out seeing one of our favorite artists live so thank you to the venue for making that all possible.

Have seen Hatebreed, Type O Negative, Volbeat(twice), it is a smaller venue than an arena, but it makes a lot of difference when you really wanna see the person or band. Some of the employees had some customer service attitude that wasn’t the greatest, but overall, most of them were very nice and courteous. Joseph Poff, was instrumental in bettering our experience and getting our tickets to us, as we live in Austin. We got the VIP seating and could not have gotten a better seat, top center row, perfect.

I enjoy smaller venues to arenas, in general. I saw Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless here on 5÷27÷15. As I am no longer a young chicken, I opted for seats instead of floor tickets. There’s not a bad seat in this house. I sat in 205 row C and had a great unobstructed view. Great sound, separate bathrooms upstairs and a bar. the only reason a concert venue will never get 5 stars from me is because of the price gauging for drinks. I realize this is an industry standard, but it’s ridiculous to pay $ 10 for a single shot, very weak, mixed drink.

My wife and I went to see Lewis Black here a few weeks ago. Love going to shows in this venue! Always a positive experience! We picked up our tickets at the box office, very quick, courteous service. Got them scanned and in we went, the artists merchandise area is just inside the door to the right. Lines weren’t long, nothing we couldn’t live without. An usher showed us right to our seats. Plenty of security around, felt very safe. Before the show started I went to the bar to get a bottle of water. Lines moved fast, bartender Thomas had things under control. The rest room was nice and clean, there was a valet. He seemed very nice thou I didn’t catch his name. The show was fantastic, lots of laughs. We will be back!

Craptastic — an overpriced venue with very poor management. Embarrassing for a city like Houston to have such a half-assed place in the midst of its burgeoning downtown. Shows how little regard the corporation that runs this venue — LiveNation, Inc.- has for anything other than its bottom line. I drove to Houston with a friend to see Beck in concert. We’re both Beck fans and had some of the most expensive tickets available at the Bayou Music Center. This means that you sit in a «VIP» area(a joke) and have access to the *very special*(not!) «Jack Daniels No. 7 Lounge» and some valet parking that we didn’t take advantage of(we stayed overnight at a hotel within walking distance to the venue). We arrived at the Bayou Music after driving over 2 hours from Austin. Hoping to get a bite to eat before the concert, we headed to the smiling incompetent that hosted the entrance to the oh so special Jack Daniels lounge. She gave us our VIP wristbands and told us we’re OK to head into the club — we passed through a doorway only to see that the club was 3 levels down AND the escalator was not working(great for women in high heels). We finally accessed the club via a service elevator and a walk through the garage. The Jack Daniels lounge — supposedly only open for VIP ticket holders — was sadly reminiscent of the 1990’s ‘discos’ I used to visit in post-Communist villages in Latvia, Poland and Lithuania. In other words, nothing special at all. No waitress service. An overworked bartender selling overpriced drinks(our premix frozen margarita and shot of Jack with tonic water was $ 21!). The concrete walls had been painted red; the interior furnished with the cheapest Chinese-made bar stools, etc. The menu comprised of 6 items that a TGI Friday’s would be embarrassed to serve — nachos, wings, sliders. All evidently microwaved at the hot dog stand upstairs. So much for the«VIP» lounge experience. After a quick drink, we thought we’d go next door to the Hard Rock Café to get some real food. We were famished. However, a huge sign above the exit reads«NOREENTRY» Funny, that isn’t on the entrance or on the tickets. The manager(read more about him later) told us «you leave, you’re not coming back in» — even with our(worthless) VIP wristbands intact. The greedy bastards that run this place want you to drink their crappy booze and eat their overpriced hot dogs at all cost$, I guess. We relented. Stayed in place. Headed to our VIP section(the girl that was supposed to admit ticket holders to this section was so high that I doubt she knew her name let alone knew what tickets would allow entrance). Our seats were on a couch behind the sound board. Amazingly, there were no separate VIP bathrooms — you have to traipse through the crowds to get in line near the stage. There was a very nice waitress who took our drink orders where we were seated. But overall, the additional price paid for VIP seating was not worth it at all(note to anyone even thinking about buying a ‘season pass’ for VIP — you will *foolishly* waste your $$$). Oh, and the outdoor ‘corral’ for smokers was a depressing situation. Beck was great in concert. As mentioned elsewhere on Unilocal, the sound is not the best in this venue. But OK. The worst moment of the night: when the douchebag manager(remember him?) kicked out Jenny Lewis, the lead singer of the opening act, who was sitting next to us in the VIP area. She evidently didn’t have right pass or something. A few minutes later she was reseated by this idiot manager who had realized she was supposed to be able to sit there(guess a quick text to Beck’s manager resolved the ‘problem’?). All the genuflecting of this moron was embarrassing to watch. We left hungry after the concert and pissed off about the entire experience. Avoid at all costs. A shitehole of horrific proportions. A new entry to my(short) «Boycott: Extreme Prejudice» list of businesses on Unilocal. 2 ½ thumbs down.
