There is something wonderfully divey about this location of Ruchi’s. The strange ambient lighting, the horrendous bathrooms, the spectrum of mediocre food, and the slow to abysmal service. Thankfully, the jukebox from 1975 kept things interesting, along with the people watching paradise of a crowd consisting of drunkards, unabashed lovers of the night, and people who just didn’t know any better. This wasn’t just one encounter, but many nights where the same thing was happening. I wasn’t mad, I was simply intrigued and impressed with its night-in-night-out consistency. And yet, that’s all part of the past. This Ruchi’s is long gone. I hate to admit it, but of all the other locations of this infamous local chain, this was my favorite. I will freely disclose that I never ate here in the day time and never even bothered to sample most of the menu. The late night experience was where it’s at and the highlights made for super memorable experiences. I enjoyed my free nachos at the bar while waiting on takeout, the unbelievably greasy taco meats, the watered down queso, and an unbelievably foul pozole. Yet in the calm of the storm, the staff managed to squeeze out a smile, perhaps knowing there was a countdown till the sunset began. Despite messing up my orders, painfully slow attention span, and general apathy, they were good to me like I was a neighbor. For fans of Ruchi-mania, there are still plenty of other locations all around Houston. While none had the charm of this spot, there are certainly other 24 hour Mexican spots that are on their way to late night glory. JB Jabastian’s( ), I’ve got my eye on you.

You don’t come here looking for first class service and fine dinning! Ruchis is for awesome food, and cheap drinks! Their green sauce is overly addicting! The night crew is fun, professional and speedy. The original chip guy I haven’t seen, so the chips and salsa refill has been on the slower mode these days. My co workers and I visit frequently. We used to go once a week if not more after work around 8. The prices during the 3years of coming have had a slight increase. And the portions a small decrease.. . I mean small but still. I would get the tacos al carbon(2 tacos and rice and bean) and two margs for roughly $ 10 and now that total is about $ 15. Still very good price! All in all, we love this spot and you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!!! Depending on who made the«batch» of margaritas for the day they can range from«really strong and amazing» to «is this ice only and someone forgot the alcohol». Unfortunately, no two days are the same so don’t doubt their drink potential if you fall on the less strong icy spectrum. For the most part, the drinks are strong and always good for the $ 2.50 price. I highly recommend this spot for a good time, drinks and tasty food. I will truly miss them at the shepherd location but will follow this particular management wherever they move.

I arrived to this 24⁄7 place with the craving of a torta and that spicy verde sauce. It was around 11PM, and there was about 2⁄5 of the restaurant filled. We got seated quickly, but everything went downhill after. We were a group of 8(more guys than girls). Obviously our chips and sauce had to be refilled. Our waiter didn’t even come by after we put our orders in. I grabbed another waiter’s attention in order to get some chips. Guess who brought the chips and sauce. The other waiter I asked. Let me just say. The verde sauce served with the chips = DELICIOUS. It’s not the spicy verde I was craving but slightly sweet in a good way. Our food finally arrived. I noticed my torta buns very greasy. It did not have any tomatoes when I asked for everything to be in it. My fajita meat was bland. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I’d liked to, so I ended up giving half to my guy friend. One of the girls asked our waiter for two to-go boxes, and she ended up bringing one. We told her we needed one more. She looked irritated. Did she think we were drunk or something? Makes me wonder how they must be around 2 – 4 am when drunk people are there dining. Just bad service! To sum it up, I will not be coming again. I know other taquerias with tastier food than here.

Best Mexican food in Houston. The place is a bit old and needs light. The green sauce served with chips is fabulous. Portions are just right, and the margaritas are great. Service is wonderful. The best part is that it’s open 24 hours!

My friends and I have been here many times late night and have never had any problems. However we went there Thursday night and they over charged me. When I tried to get an explanation the waitress couldn’t even understand me because she couldn’t speak English well. They ended up saying they took off the extra charges and I signed the receipt when I paid. But when I check my bank account they charged the original Wrong, Overpriced amount. Shady shady shady!!!

Ruchi’s isn’t a bad joint, but it isn’t the best Mexican restaurant either. Why I keep returning is mere convenience to alleviate my late night hunger pangs after downing a few beers at a nearby bar. I’ve been there sober, and I’ve been there –ya know– with a lighter spirit. The food(fajita tacos and fajita torta) was just okay when I ate there sober. I LOVE authentic Mexican food, and I know good authentic Mexican food. The late night taco runs, on the other hand, never fails. Does it count if you’re under the influence? Eh, whatever. Scene: The bar just shut down, there is no pizza guy standing at the door with a stack of «warm» pizzas, go to Ruchi’s and get fajita, al pastor, and barbacoa tacos with onions and cilantro. Go to sleep happy. The staff is about a 3.5-star team. I understand it gets crazy, but they’ll get you what you need. You just gotta catch them ’cause they’re fast. Oh! You even get free chips when you’re waiting on your to-go order at the bar!

Shady parking but free chips!!!(Pst they are amazing) Hola Senioritta! ok this place is probably one of the shadiest but best things ever. Located near Trader Joes, you will probably miss it if you aren’t looking for it. It looks really cheap on the outside and it doesn’t even have its own parking lot(you park at trader joe). Open super late, this is a restaurant that my friends and I hit up on a regular basis at 2 in the morning. WIth free chips and sausa(some really awesome tasting spciy mustard sauce + regular sausa), you bet you can get your money’s worth even before you order your main entrée. So speaking from experience, the best entrée for price is the BURRITOCALIFORNIA(you must say it with a mexican accent, its awesome). It is slightly smaller than a chipotle burrito, and its only 5 bucks! :D The other stuff on the menu aren’t bad either, but I don’t actually like super cheezy stuff… so i usually dont get them. but my friends all enjoy their entrees! :D The only complaint I have with this place is the lack of music and kinda weird atmosphere. Like the inside is all clean and stuff, but there will be sporadic bursts of some Top 20 from the old speakers and the inside is slightly crammed except for the seats right next to the bathroom… In all, Ruchis is a cool place to go for late night food. yay cheap/free chips!

I had lunch here, I got the Chili Relleno Plate with beans and rice. The food was great and came out fast. I was not offered any refills. I waited nearly an hour for the check when I was told that I had to go pay at the front. The service was nonexistent after the food was dropped off. I must say I was disappointed. The food is good enough for them to deserve a second chance. I’ll keep you updated.

So I may be a super picky B* but I definitely know what I like, and I know my skinny margaritas. Going to a place like this, I expected a better margarita. Even the regular strawberry was too sweet and strong in all the wrong ways. Go because its 24 hours. Get simple drinks. Very accommodating waitstaff, so 3 stars instead of 2.

So good. And they totally surpass«good» when you’re drunk stomach screams, «TACCCOOOOSSSS!!» Don’t tell me yours never has. While it’s unfortunate that they don’t have a full bar, it doesn’t matter. Their chips are thin and crispy and the green sauce ought to be flowing from plastic fountains. The chicken mole enchiladas are my go-to. Ruchis was also the first place I had lengua tacos. My friend told me they were practically meat butter. He wasn’t kidding. The pork tacos are incredible, also. It’s a dive and it’s beautiful. Just wish they had good margaritas.

I had never actually been to Ruchi’s myself before yesterday when I had an incurable hankering for their breakfast tacos with the red and green sauces. I could actually survive off of containers of those red and green sauces not just for fun but if need be, as their richness is sadly derived from oil. Womp, womp. I am lucky enough to have a work wife who brings me the egg and chorizo tacos with the sauces on her jaunts before work. We would often wistfully long for those tacos at the office-or just the sauces. They are THAT tasty. The chorizo would be chopped into the egg and the whole mixture was perfectly seasoned and folded into a delicious flour tortilla. It was the only time I’ve ever liked sausage. Alright y’all, nothing to see here, keep moving… So I was prepared for a trek outside of the Med Center for those tacos as a treat for my co-workers when I pulled up the Unilocal app and found that Ruchi’s was actually near work. I trusted that this would be a quick trip. Ay, caramba. I had no idea until reading other reviews that Ruchi’s is open 24 hours and is well-known for drunk eats. I’d been deprived this entire time! «I’d totally be coming here instead of Taco Cabana had I known,» I pouted while I waited. After that wait, I’m not so sure. I came on a weekday morning. It wasn’t close enough to lunch or dinner or even 1AM, when I would have excused slower service. They were very kind to make breakfast tacos just shortly after 11AM although the menu says they stop serving breakfast at 10:30. They misunderstood my order and I ended up with eight tacos instead of the four I requested. I remained patient. It was mostly my bad at that point. The wait was 45 minutes though the restaurant was nearly empty. The eight tacos were wrapped in sets of two. These were for several people and it made it very difficult to share. If they went through the effort of making them fresh, I don’t see why they would get so lazy about packaging them at that point. The tacos tasted rushed, for lack of a better descriptor. They weren’t bad but I think the seasoning was missing. Why they’d rush when there was nobody waiting after me is an excellent question. I had also ordered a huarache and guacamole. #fatty Both were fine but nothing to write home about. Finally, they charge a dollar extra for red sauce now. Insult was added to injury. The green sauce is still making me happy and I’m pouring it on everything possible. Sadly, the allure of Ruchi’s died when we finally met in person. I’ll likely return but it’s definitely been downgraded in my book. Who am I kidding? I’ll probably be there in the wee hours of Sunday morning now.

I was coughing out of my back for days… never again! But this place definitely saved my life. I was actually at House of Pies on Kirby not even an hour before it burnt down. We decided while in the parking lot that we wanted Mexican food instead. I guess I’d rather have the shit for days than being at House of Pies while it was burning down.

Wow we got here at 3:20 and seated in 30 seconds… And that was the only thing that went right or fast! It was busy but they proceeded to take an hour and a half to bring our order after taking at least a half hour for someone to show up to take our order. Guess what they brought of someone else’s order. And when we did get our food it tasted like rear-ended skunk. But it soaked up the booze and was able to go home and pass out with a belly full of crapola.

Had a lovely experience at Ruchis. I went in with the intention of asking them if I could order take-out and they said yes, so I put my order in for several tacos. De lengua, de carnitas, al pastor and de barbacoa, 3 of each and they were all delicious. They took care of my companion and I really well, even offered us a bowl of chips with red and green salsa and two ice waters while we waited for our order to get assembled. When we got home we saw that they’d given us a bag of extra chips, several containers of their home-made salsas, napkins, salt, pepper, and that they’d wrapped all of our tacos really well. Needless to say we’ll be going there again. I mean twelve tacos for roughly $ 20 is great — but for *these* tacos? It’s a steal. The meat was tender, smokey, the onions were crunchy and fresh, the corn tortillas soft and chewy. It was an absolute delight.

I freaking love this place, and yes, I feel a bit guilty about it. The prices are ridiculously cheap, the salsas and food are great, and the staff is always super friendly. I’ve even ordered togo a couple of times before, but it’s always more expensive I guess because they charge for chips and salsas and extras, but don’t if you dine in. Whatever. Either way: amazing and authentic. Best foods: Quesadillas, any of them the tacos, I’ve tried most of them; fantastic The breakfasts: fantastic Mexican breakfasts, $ 2.99 before 10am, 3.99 after. Can’t beat that. burritos are great. Tortas are fantastic.

Oh Ruchi’s. If I were a poet, I’d write you a sonnet; if I were a musician, I’d write you a rock ballad. But I’m an engineer, so you have to settle for this Unilocal review. I am in love with this place. Previously I’d only been to this place during my 2 a.m. drunk eating fests, and trust me, it was plenty good for that. But I finally started making it a point to visit during times when my brain wasn’t drugged to automatically love everything, and I started to realize just how good Ruchi’s really is. First off, their queso. Mmmm their queso. We added beef and mushrooms — o.m.g. You eat this stuff with a tortilla, by the way, because it’s so thick it breaks chips. Turns out this is the ONLY way I ever want to eat queso from now out. But the chips — always hot, always fresh, always with plenty of salsa and green sauce(which should be a national treasure by the way). The food is equally amazing. Just order anything. Believe me, you will not regret it. The prices are also excellent. You get way more than you pay for. Shhh, don’t tell them, because if they start charging what it’s worth, I will go broke.

This review totes needed an update. I wrote that last one when i was 25. I was in a drunken haze for most of that time, so everything tasted uh-mazing. Don’t get me wrong. Late night eats will sober you up and fill that tummy in hopes of avoiding a nasty hangover. However, 2am-4am it’s jam packed, and there aren’t nearly enough servers on the floor. That«quick round of tacos and tortas» will turn into a 1.5 hour meal — and you’s gotsta get home, son! Lunch time, far better But still, I’d rather get my Mexican eats from El Tiempo and the like — or even TTC down the street. But when it’s 1am and nothing else is open, Ruchis remains an ol’ faithful. Items to order: Caldo de res(Mexican beef stew) Tacos de barbacoa Flautas Quesadillas Um … that’s about all I’ve ever really ordered/tasted.
