I haven’t had the ice cream but the donuts are the best! I didn’t know I was picky about donuts until having theirs. They melt in your mouth. The jalepeno kolaches are also really great.

Located in a small strip center, I guess Simply Splendid had to set itself apart from the Subway, Neighbor’s Kitchen(other chinese food place) and pricey Red Balloon Café all located in the same space. What better way to do that than to put ice cream, donuts and chinese food all in once place. Such a random mix i call it «The Donut Wok» when I tell my coworkers of a cool place to eat near by. As the 1st reviewer noted, I’ve also been around when it was«Square Donuts» as its location attracts nearby the work lunch crowd. It wasnt opened long before the change to what it is now and it kinda came out of nowhere. It is no longer crowded as the space & furniture is spread out where you can chill and not be elbow to elbow. Lots of drinks on hand and its very clean. Come for: The nice and cheap Vietnamese sandwiches, No hassle wifi, free apple computer use, tv and magazines while you eat. Beware: Parking can be a nightmare at peak times since one parking lot serves for 3 restaurants plus a dry cleaners.

The space Simply Splendid Donuts currently occupies was once the home of a beloved donut shop by the name of «Square Donuts.» As the name suggests they had square donuts. Yes, square donuts. Their motto was clever, «Never Cut Corners.» I just loved the reaction people had when they saw square donuts for the first time. And stopping by Square Donuts around Valentine’s day was an annual tradition for at this time of the year they had adorable heart shaped donuts. Then to my disappointment, I realized one day that Square Donuts was no more, that this new place«Simply Splendid Donuts & Ice Cream» was the current owner. It seemed so unusual to have ice cream in a donut shop. They’ve added Chinese foods to the menu. It used to be just bagels, kolaches, donuts, and coffee. The place is relatively the same, Starbucks-like ambiance. Since SSDIC took over some aspects of the interior and ambiance have worsened. The space feels a bit crowded and cluttered, there is a lot of furniture. Service can be a bit slow with only person tending to the requests of customers upfront during prime time. I ordered a cinnamon twist donut; I wasn’t convinced by the donut or the glaze. I’d rather go to Shipleys. It looks like they have retained one thing that I really liked about Square Donuts… their heart shaped donuts around Valentine’s Day.
