My date and I went there yesterday evening. The food prices were very reasonable and the food was tasty. The only problem came time when paying the bill. Never did get a detailed receipt and only after we left the restaurant did we realize they had overcharged us. But worse yet, we had a coupon(that never expires) and the owner would not honor the coupon!

I came here last year and remembered it as decent, things have changed apparently. The quesadilla tasted bland and plastic. The beans were clearly from a can and the rice was dry. I say myself and got my own menu. Idk if it’s because I’m young or a gringo but ok. Also we ordered tacos al pastor it came with flavorless greasy meat and huge onion chunks. For«authentic Mexican» this place fails very badly. Shame it used to be good.

We were the only gringos there so I thought that was a good sign. Place was packed. I ordered chicken enchiladas with queso fresco. I was really disappointed in the portion size. The three enchiladas were each about the size of my finger. I was still hungry when I left. I would recommend this place to Hispanics as it is authentic cuisine but I don’t think it’s what a gringo had come to know a Mexican restaurant to be.

So I went here not expecting anything great but I was pleasantly surprised. Let me start off on the salsa, usually I don’t review the salsa b/c it typically all taste the same but this place actually had some salsa worth mentioning. Ordered the tacos and they were good and just the right amount. What blew me away were the tamales. A good tamale is always hard to find but this place nailed it! Beans and rice were meh. Service is better if you know spanish and my meal was under $ 10. Loved that novelas were playing on the TV’s and the projection screen.

My visit was on the morning of Valentine’s Day 2÷14÷15. It was 2 of us and we placed our drink order which was coffee. 3 minutes later we get our chips and salsa. Shortly after we placed our food order. We sit there about 1 whole hour and the food never arrives. Clearly not a place if you’re hungry or on a time crunch. We had to drive down the street to La Tapatia. This place has been around for years, they should be able to accommodate lots of people looking for service?

My fiancé and I eat here all the time and we love it! We have tried many of the menu items and have enjoyed almost all of them. We have dined there with his [rather large] family for various special occasions and have had pleasant experiences, for the most part. Normally the service is fast and friendly during the week, but we have received slow/bad service on weekends, or when we were with larger groups. Also on weekends, they have a guy who sings/DJs karaōke and it gets extremely loud. They are open very late, which is great since we both work long days, and the prices are reasonable for the most part. Tepatitlan definitely gets our stamp of approval!

In Houston visiting and came upon this great place. Totally local, authentic, great service. Basic Mexican fare, all good and if I lived here would certainly come again!

I’ve never had a margarita this awful before. I originally ordered a strawberry margarita and immediately sent it back to switch for a lime margarita because it was not good at all. However, the lime margarita was just as displeasing. Both the strawberry and lime margaritas tasted like I was drinking snow cone flavoring straight from the syrup bottle. It was absolutely not worth spending almost $ 6 on given how difficult it was to drink one without gagging every time I took a sip. However, the green salsa and the chicken gordita were both fairly average. Even still, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant anyone.

Right next to 59 and 610 interchange. This is a really authentic mexican restaurant and not just your average boring texmex place. Had the camarones a la diabla and the shrimp was fresh and spicy. The portions were huge and they even put a piece of edible cactus on every plate. Very authentic. You won’t leave this place befire getting stuffed with food!

I came in at 1pm on a Monday and was greeted and seated right away. My huge iced tea was brought to me right away… add was a large bowl of warm tostitos and two bowls of salsa… one red and one green. Perfect degree of spiciness. I ordered the Monday special, it was great! Look at the picture ! It was as good as it looked. The service was excellent during my visit. The tables and chairs are large, sturdy, and comfortable. I felt like I was special here mom

camee here a couple days ago. fell in looveee w the red salsa, will be going back maybe just for that. food is not that great, beans taste straight from the can, rice is not good either, tried a cheese ench did not taste mexican at all, too much cheese. seems to me like this is a tex mex place. service was not bad, waitress was nice. restaurant looks fair from the inside, also nice bar. other thann that will just be going back when there is nothing else open at nights.

If you are coming to Unilocal for reviews, then this is not the place for you. Food was meh, felt dirty, my menu was sticky nasty, utensils old and dirty. I actually stayed to eat but as I left i realized that was the wrong move… place is just too dirty feeling to eat there.

Back in the day, this was my «go-to-after-the-club“spot. As mentioned in other reviews, most of the servers are native Spanish speakers but they try to communicate effectively. The quality of the food is good for a roadside taqueria and they are pretty quick on takeout orders, as well. Pros: fair prices, good portion size, intimate feel, live band some nights(at least back in the day) Cons: communication may be sketchy, parking lot is a little jacked up, bare-bone décor atmosphere

Me and my girlfriend came here for lunch. After waiting a minute or two for the hostess to greet us, we took a seat near the window. We were then greeted by a waitress who spoke only Spanish. After we told her we only spoke English, she rolled her eyes and walked off. That was it. No apology, no «un momento», nothing. Nobody else came, and we left. Never again here.

Shredded cheddar cheese on the tacos. That tells you all you need to know about this place. At dinner I thought I would play it safe by ordering tacos. Turns out nothing’s safe in this place. I tried 3 taco fillings and in each the meat was impossibly hard and dried out. Well, except for the picadillo, which was mushy. It’s exactly what my frugal mom used to do with leftover meat: when it had been sitting in the fridge and was on its last legs, she’d put in a frying pan and fry it to heat, trying to mask the fact that it had dried out. It doesn’t work. If a tiny truck just down the street can make excellent, fresh tacos(with the proper cilantro & onions on top), then that shows just how little this place is trying. My husband’s flautas were brown instead of golden, a sign they were also precooked, then refried. What a waste of a meal. And on top of it all, I can’t just enjoy their soundtrack of music en espanol, they’ve got some guy yodeling karaōke over all of them. And I don’t think he was a customer, he was standing there half-heartedly butchering every single song so it appears they hired him to torture me. The merengues too — really? Do you have to sing the merengues too?

If you come here expecting to find good, spicy salsa to accompany your meal you will be sorely disappointed. They have two types of salsa here: one green and one red. Both are awful. Not only are they bland, but extremely watery as well. We couldn’t even scoop it with the chips. Now about the food itself: –I ordered one bean gordita with cheese and lettuce and a sope with the same ingredients. The beans were terrible. They had a very disgusting taste… it seemed to me like they were cooked with lard, yuk. –My husband ordered three fajita tacos, which he did not enjoy. Instead of being served with chopped onion and cilantro, the tacos had lettuce and tomato as toppings. If you’re familiar with authentic Mexican tacos, you know that they’re supposed to be served with onion and cilantro. We’ll never visit this place again.

Bargain Priced!, 5 dollars for breakfast that was too much for me to eat. I believe I was the only english speaker in the restaurant. But still felt at home.

This is authentic mexican food, not tex-mex. You can tell when 95% of the customers in the room are mexican, and the restaurant answers its phone in spanish rather than english. I am rating it probably more highly than I should, considering what a run down dive the place is, but the food is so good! If you come expecting a fine dining experience, you will be disappointed. If you come expecting delicious authentic mexican food for cheap without caring for ambience, then you will love this place. Come here for the quesadillas(with beef and a flour tortilla, I don’t like the corn tortilla). They are probably terrible for you — I always have to dab at them with a napkin to get the grease off first — but they are SO delicious! There’s something about the cheese they use that makes these addictive. And, they happen to be the cheapest thing on the menu! They are, I believe, $ 1.75 each, and two is plenty to fill you up. Fair warning though — they only accept credit cards for purchases over $ 5. This place is fairly close to my work, so I am in the habit of getting takeout for lunch at work on a regular basis. I would suggest takeout rather than dining in — after all, the whole point of this place is the food, not the dining experience.
