Well, this is just a seedy little place over in EaDo that won’t appeal to all. BUT, if you’re in the mood for some live music from a local band, slot machines and cheap beer, this is your spot! The venue is great acoustically for live music and that’s probably the best part about it. The bar is pretty simple as they don’t have a lot of options and it’s cash only. Bring some change or you’ll be tipping $ 1 per beer. There is an ATM just in case you forget about stopping by your bank, and yep, those slot machines take cash too! There are pool tables in the back and some sad lonely worn out tables and chairs. If you’re in the mood for a smigget(cig), just head out the back door to the carports for the upstairs apartments. Yep, you can smoke with the neighbors and the stray kittens. If you’re popping in for live music, odds are the band’s friends will also be there, and the 4 parking spaces in front will be taken. So, you’re left with street parking. It’s a bit of a industrial area with not a lot going on. Remember the buddy system and don’t walk to and from your home alone. All in all, great venue for music and cheap beer. If you’re looking for anything other than an old falling down dive, keep steppin’.

On the bright side, they do have relatively cheap beer. I’m not sure that makes up for it being an extreme dive in a creepy looking part of town, with limited parking. I did see a really good band play here, but the house sound guy kept falling asleep so there is a chance they could have sounded even better. The stage looks pretty cramped for any more than a three person band.

The White Swan is definitely a dive. The bands that play here tend to be top-notch for my musical tastes, and so this is why I don’t mind coming back. It’s not too large of a venue, but if you want to thrash out, this place doesn’t mind. This is exactly what’s really needed for a night of fun. The bar is cash only, so make sure you bring plenty of it with you if you’re heading here. Don’t expect something too fancy, as the selection here is pretty limited and there is no beer on tap. This is certainly not the place to be if you’re a beer snob like me. There are some tables you can sit at, while you drink your Budweiser. There are pool tables in the back, but they look like they haven’t actually been used in decades. Bands usually just set-up merch there. Don’t mind the old piano off to the side either. The bathroom is probably one of the smallest I’ve seen, but it gets the job done when you’ve had a few. Overall, not bad, but it’s got nothing on Walter’s.

Do not expect high end, high class kinda place, you either like it or you dont. keep an open mind. This is one of the oldest bar venues in Houston, kept to its roots. Cheap drinks, awsome staff, big screen TV for sports, old school Juke Box. Really good house band, just make sure you bring cash or a debit card for the ATM machine. already played two shows here and really liked it.

This place is a complete dive. I would have given The White Swan 3 stars but beer is only $ 2.50 and pitchers are $ 8. I had to give it a star based on beer prices alone, because I’m a big fan of cheap beer at live shows. The White Swan is on the East Side, which I hardly venture to, unfortunately. It’s a small venue, I think its a converted neighborhood grocery store but before that it was someones residence. Heck for all know someone still lives up on the second floor. I guess this because the patio was a converted car port. They have a lot of local talent booked here. I was talking to a couple of people who said they remember their first show ever was at The White Swan. I was here Saturday night checking out a couple of local Ska /Punk bands. It was free so I though what the hell. The venue probably fits about 100 people comfortably, and on this evening it was packed. In the back they have a jukebox and a couple of 6′ pool tables. It is an 18 and older so beware of the teens thinking they’re hardcore. I’m a big fan of local music and even a bigger fan of ska and punk so if they continue to book good shows I will continue to look for the ever elusive White Swan on the East Side.
