Have only been for lunch and never just for the sweets. I have the same waiter twice and she was awful! Tall, thin woman. She acted very irritated that we were even there both times. The second time I ordered diet coke, she said they were out, so I ordered Lemonade, said they were out. SERIOUSLY, restock. I worked in the service industry all through college you have extra soda syrups in the back, replace it on your machine and get on with it. I asked for a side of mayo and mustard with my lunch sandwich, when she brought out my food she handed me just mustard. I very politely asked if I could please have the mayo I ordered. She proceeded to tell me that I only asked for mustard and she brought that INSTEAD of just going to get the mayo. She spent a good 30 seconds arguing with me when finally the other woman dining with me said, «she did order mayo also» which upon being said the woman turned and walked off and came back and nearly threw the mayo cup at me. Terrible. Uptown park has plenty other tasty places to eat lunch, so don’t waste your time here. .

One of the worst alleged cafes I have ever been in. The product looks pretty good but that is the end of anything positive. The staff is inept. The croissants are SUPER dry and tasteless. That goes for the food as well, its just bad. I wanted to find something good to say since it is in a great shopping area but I just cant. And if you want coffee, go to a gas station before here, its probably better

First off, just so we’re clear, this is the first one star review that I’ve ever written on Unilocal.Without exaggerating, this was the worst experience I have ever witnessed regarding service in the food industry. I was visiting my 85 year old grandmother for the weekend. To help make a special dinner, she had ordered some vol au vents pastries and some white cake slices from this bakery a few days before. The owner(or manager) had called her back after she booked the order, to let her know that the vol au vents would not be available, but that the cake slices would be. Fine, no problem. She placed the order on Wednesday. On Saturday, I accompany my grandmother to the Bakery. She’s a petite, elderly, soft-spoken woman. She asks for her order. The woman behind the counter clearly has trouble understanding my grandmother. «What? You have an order? What? You wanted what?» She was either stoned or incredibly slow. Once she finally understood what my grandmother wanted, she went to the back to inquire. She then came back and started — I kid you not — yelling at my grandmother. «Look, we CALLED you and we SAID it wouldn’t be available. We CALLED you. I CALLED you. I don’t know why you’re here, because we CALLED you.» «Yes, you did, but you called about the vol au vents. I talked to the other girl and she said the cake slices would be here.» «No she DIDN’T. She SAID that we couldn’t fulfill any of your order. We CALLED you. We TOLD you.» And on and on, basically embarrassing my grandmother in front of everybody by implying that she’s getting senile. It was really awful to be yelled at by the service girl, when it’s they’re the ones who don’t have your order, but they’re yelling so loudly and talking over you that there’s nothing you can do but meekly go away. My grandmother, ever a lady, said«It doesn’t matter. What are those cakes in the window? I’ll take four.» She had no desire(or vocal cords) to get in a screaming match to defend herself. «Those? What? You want to know about what…» With much more embarrassing condescension, she packaged our order, charged us, made us wait for five minutes while she wandered away, and finally we could escape. My grandmother was on the verge of tears. There was no apology for messing up our order. No apology for yelling at us. Any shop worth their salt would have apologized profusely and given us store credit or a free order. A good establishment would have done so even if there was some question about who was at fault. Instead, we were yelled at, belittled, and embarrassed because they couldn’t take responsibility for their mistake. I’m utterly appalled.

Great place for cakes! Bought 2 small ones — pistacio & chocolate = $ 40 for both. People were impressed!

This place has really good Croissants(although it is not baked at this location). It’s crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. For a $ 1.50 each, why not? The cappuccino on the other-hand wasn’t the best but at least I know where to go for Croissants.

I am giving this place only 2 stars because I came with high hopes to try the Crabcake sandwich and they didn’t have any. It was around noon on a weekday… how can they run out that fast? I ended up ordering the Spinach quiche(which I was super disappointed to order because I can get that anywhere) and our waitress came back and said they were out of that too. so then I ordered the Quiche Lorraine. The menu options are very limited, but you can order a Lunch serving which includes a sandwich/quiche plus a side of soup or salad and it comes with tea or coffee, or the Side serving is all the above plus a pastry from the bakery. I ordered the chicken noodle soup as my side, which was decent. My quiche was smaller than I had expected. it was like a small slice of pizza, but it was cheesy and tasty, so that sort of made up for my disappointment. I don’t recommend getting the salad as a side. My boyfriend ordered it and it was just a small bowl of lettuce with shredded carrots on top. In the end, I think I need to go back and try the crabcake sandwich and maybe it will change my mind about this place. I felt like after multiple disappointments, the waitress could have at least offered me a free pastry or something.

«Andres’ has been around forever and Ive been going since they’ve been on River Oaks.(I wished my sister continued for training to be a chef here!) The lunch is great. They have a wide variety of desserts… one reason to keep coming back! My only complaint… I wish they opened later than 7pm!

One bite out of the Crabcake Sandwich & I instantly became a fan of this place! Crabcakes are awesome on their own, but to eat it in sandwich form in-between a warm, buttery, toasty croissant is an absolute winner! I went for lunch & it also included dessert. The white chocolate pistachio cake was amazing. Sweet chocolate with the nice crunch of the pistachios. Again, another winner! I also tried a little bit of my friends mango mousse cake & it was just as great! This place is a must go if you’re ever in Houston!

This review is for lunch and not for the bakery. It’s the perfect place for lunch when you’re in Uptown. Their lunch specials come with a soup or salad, coffee or tea, and a dessert, and it all comes at a reasonable price if you get a sandwich or quiche. The daily specials can run a little pricier like $ 13, but they are always delicious and quite unique from anything else you can get around. So what I usually get is the crab cake sandwich, which can be served on a croissant if you want(OMG!). A croissant that is seeping butter out of every pore. It’s even better than it sounds, but if you are eating light, you can always just get it on regular white bread which is significantly healthier for you. The crab cake may not be the crabbiest and most decadent I’ve ever had, but it is perfect as a sandwich filler because it has great crabby flavor and also has corn in it, which I like. Overall it has a good texture and goes well with the tartar sauce it’s served with. Anyway, I usually get tomato basil soup with my meal which is really really good. I love tomatoes, and this soup actually tastes like it was made with fresh tomatoes, rather than tomato paste, blech. So at the end of the meal I always get my choice of pastry which is like the best thing ever! I’ve tried quite a few but one of my absolute favorites is the mango mousse. They have TONS of other ones but that’s the one that stays in my mind. Overall the atmosphere is just cute, a perfect place to take a co-worker to lunch, the perfect place to meet your girlfriends in the middle of the day, the perfect place to chat over coffee and dessert for the remainder of your lunch break.

Their homemade cakes are to die for! Mango mousse, chocolate rum… yummmm! Breakfast was alright. We got a spinach and feta croissant, requested the server to warm it up(apparently they serve it to you straight from the pastry display), and still came out cold. And since I am a sucker for sweets! I’m still giving this place four stars!

Came here for lunch(yep, not just sweets!) It kind of reminds me of La Madeline inside, can’t really say why. Food is your typical café/bakery food. GREAT lunch combos, though! Almost all lunches come with coffee or tea, salad or soup, AND a bakery item(this is my favorite part). They also have complimentary bread and butter basket! Not the freshest bread in the world, but still good. They have several lunch specials each day, but that day we tried their lamb chops and curry chicken. Lamb chops were delicious, covered in a white cream pesto sauce and the meat wasn’t overcooked. Curry chicken was good, but it was hard to taste the curry(I like it with strong spices) and they didn’t put enough sauce on the rice so that it was pretty dry after 2⁄3 done with it. Crab-cake Salad was pretty delicious as well. Lunch and Salad portions for their salads are the same, except you pay $ 2 more for a dessert with the«lunch» portion. Now the desserts, on the other hand. NOMNOMNOM. Tried the chocolate croissant(woulda been better if they heated it up a little), nut&honey bar, and a fruit tart/pie. They were all pretty good, although honestly I’ve had better before. Still satisfying though! Good way to end a meal. Or. start one? :) Overall, it was a nice cute and cozy setting. Good for a quick bite if you don’t want anything too heavy(unless you have no self control and eat all 3 desserts like I did).

Wow, I can’t believe I have to bump my favorite bakery café down some stars. The ambiance is still great, and the desserts are still fantastic and beautiful. But the food was just subpar. As usual, I got my favorite crab cake sandwich. The crab cake tasted like frozen minced fish. I’m not a big fan of tartar sauce, but I guess you’re supposed to add it so that you don’t notice the quality of the crab cake. My bf got the daily special– grilled flank steak. It was only $ 13.95, including the dessert, salad/soup, and iced tea/coffee. The price of it really shows in the bad quality of the meat. Still better than the Rice Village location though.

The Galleria area is littered with many different restaurants. Even in Uptown Park, you have a variety of choices. A co-worker suggested that we go to Café Express. I declined and countered offered with this place instead. We both ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich on croissant. We had the lunch special where it includes a ice tea, the meal, a cup of soup, a slice of fruit as well as desert for a little over $ 12 per person. It was worth it. The service was excellent and surprisingly, we didn’t have to wait too long for our food to come out. Very good place for a quick lunch that is worth every penny.

«Aw, what a cute little patisserie!» Those were the words that came out of my mouth as I found this little gem, tucked in Uptown Park. It was also my first visit to the park. Small, pretty, with little shops here and there. I have only came in here on a few visits to pick up sweets. Almond croissant is the first word muttered out of my mouth, as I explain to the cashier on what to fill my bag with. Then comes scones, brownie, and cranberry bar. The almond croissant is generously loaded with almonds, and marzipan. It is huge, and can feed up to three people. Thats if you don‘t mind sharing! ;) The Swiss brownies have the perfect amount of semi sweet cocoa, and have a chewy moist taste. They are definitely the gourmet fix for brownies! Scones are heavy, and crumble in your mouth. Just the way they should be. It is dotted with crispy cinnamon sugar. Cranberry bars are refreshingly zesty! A nice blend of sweetness with just the right amount of tartness. The lemon gives it a clean taste. Oh yes… also petit fours! How can I forget to mention them. They are mini little cakes that are wrapped around a green coloured marzipan layer. The inside of the cake is layered with a soft filling of raspberry. Quite wonderful! I want to try out Thierry’s for lunch one day. Not sure if its any good? I may give it a try, seeing how I have been pleased with their treats.

I stopped by for a late lunch. There were maybe two other people in the restaurant. The server was very pleasant and did a good job. My iced tea was never less than half full and she was very attentive. I ordered one of their lunch specials which was chicken with cucumber yogurt sauce. They served rolls, which were ok, but would have been much better warm. This was followed by a small salad which was 50% shredded carrots and the other 50% chopped romaine. It was fine. When the meal came out I was immediately reminded of something I’d fix myself the morning after drinking. It was clearly hangover food. Complete with a combination of temperatures that, are not only unpleasant, but also reminiscent of being caused by a microwave. On one half of the plate there was a cold spaghetti concoction with some kind of pesto and a few halved cherry tomatoes. Something you’d bring to a pot luck picnic. The other half was a small grilled chicken breast, chopped into maybe 6 pieces and doused in this bland yogurty sauce. The chicken was warm and the sauce was cold. It was unimaginative and definitely not worth $ 13. The high point of the meal was the included dessert which was a lady finger and chocolate mousse thing with three berries on it. At least the meal ended on a good note. They may have wonderful sandwiches. I didn’t try any of them. I doubt I’ll be back, but this may have been just an unlucky choice of entrée on my part. They really should ditch this dish though!

I really recommend their lunch specials. It comes with your choice of a hearty salad or sandwich, soup, and one of their desserts with coffee! What a great deal… They are known for their pastries/desserts so you are really in for a treat.

Hello pilates. Don’t try to go here and pass up the dessert option on the lunch menu. I feel I need to repeat this: ALWAYSORDERDESSERT. It’s the simple things in life: house salad, tomato basil soup and dessert. I think I’ve been here 12ish times [sounds like a good number] and I always say I’m going to try their special — something besides the salad + soup special… but then, like a crack addict, I just can’t control myself. And I’m ok with that. Because, well, it’s better than crack.

I came here the other day for lunch. I ordered the lunch sandwich serving which comes with your choice of any quiche or sandwich, salad or soup, iced tea or coffee, and a pastry. I got the crab cake sandwich, tomato basil soup and a pastry which I think was a fruit tart. Before the food arrived, they gave us some sliced bread with butter packets. The bread was stale and hard as a rock so we left them untouched. The sandwich was decent at best. It was basically crab cake with some sauce(probably mayonnaise) and some sliced tomatoes served on a croissant. The croissant was very oily and definitely not fresh. The tomato basil soup was okay, wasn’t really expecting much from this, though. Also, the pastry was a huge disappointment. I’d have to say that I ordered the wrong thing because nothing I ordered was satisfying. If I had to choose between Andre’s and La Madeline, I’d choose La Madeline. I was disappointed by the food here, although, I’d probably go back to make sure it wasn’t my order. Maybe I’ll order the tiramisu and stick to the more simpler things.

This place is a good break from the«TEXASSIZED» everything that we have here in this wonderful state. Dont get me wrong. I love everything Texas. This place has well portioned meals for lunch. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Turkey and Cheese sandwich taste really fresh and seem relatively healthy. It comes with a small coffee cup sized salad with lots of carrot shreds on top. Dont ask for potato chips! You also get an iced tea, and if you want it, a small pastry to change the taste on your pallet. Their patio outside makes it a great spot to people watch too.

Sweets, Treats, and Desserts. Tortes, Tarts, Bars, Cakes, Mousse(is the plural the same? Like the animal, only different?), Eclairs… That is what greeted me as I entered this restaurant. I almost was a little too distracted to look for my fellow Lunch Bunchers. This place gets packed for lunch. Actually, the entire area gets packed during lunch. LOTS of people work in the area, and a large portion drive to this huge, usually deserted parking lot, and park their cars. After five minutes, I followed a group to their car and ganked the space. Since it was the one beautiful day of the year, everyone was eating outside; our large group was forced indoors. Not bad, since it meant I got to walk past the beautiful desserts. They have a pretty good lunch deal. For about $ 12, you can get an entrée, a drink, and a dessert. Some entrees also got a side. I opted for the crab cake and avocado salad. That would be a crab, but mostly bread cake and half of an avocado atop chopped romaine and shredded carrots. I kept eye-balling Shazia’s seared ahi tuna salad, but as I’d had a phenomenal seared tuna steak the night before(I heart Mockingbird), I went with the waitress’ recommendation. I understand that the poached salmon salad is great, but they were out. As I ate, I noticed the wait staff carrying trays of desserts… often. When our table was cleared, we were brought our own two trays with various desserts. I went with the apple tart, again the waitress’ recommendation. I was curious to try it, so I turned down her offer to go grab another lemon chiffon mousse thing that were immediately chosen off the trays. I don’t recommend the apple tart, it was just so-so. My choices were not so good, however everyone else’s food looked great. I’d say this was a solid 3.5 stars and decided to bump it up to four stars due to the lack of good eating options in the area and the beautiful desserts.
