Third Planet

If you are into vintage toys this is the place for you. Originally I went in looking for more current stuff and found some things, but was overwhelmed by the amount of old school items available. This place is a treasure chest full of goodies for old time fans of comics, tv shows, and cartoons.

From the outside it might not look like much but this was a hidden gem!!!
There was a very large amount of back issues which I loved and a lot of rare books, even though they were a tad too high priced. The staff will not let you hold any books in the case but would still show you any book you would like.
The staff was very helpful. Even checked on me after a few minutes.
I would love to come back to this store if I ever come back to town.

Good quantity of back issues and a good selection of independent comics. My only problem with this place is the prices on certain back issues, they are very overpriced. Staff is great and very helpful. The location is organized and the toys and statues are well displayed. Only thing that gets me is the prices.

Here’s what I like about this place: it’s very clean and very organised. Though I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, I imagine I can spend several hours at this store if my schedule allowed. They had the old school Archie comic books (double digests for those who want to sit on the toilet longer!), randomly rare finds like a Millennium wall calendar for 1998 (remember that late 90s sci-​fi programme?), and other finds that one would normally see at a comic book store.
The employees, particularly Meghan, were very friendly, cheery, and helpful. The parking situation could be better. Their next door neighbour, a smut shoppe called Katz (not to be confused with the New York City kosher deli that never closes), apparently reports on Third Planet customers for parking in their lot. Be sure you turn into the little alley way right next to Third Planet because that’s the only entrance to their car park.
Verdict: My new favourite comic book/​toy store!

Awesome store that has a great varied collection of nerdy/​geeky interests — only thing we couldn’t find was some forgotten realms novels — they had everything else! I loved the space especially since it had that old school comic book smell (if that makes any sense) and was a bit disorganized which simply added to the charm of the place. Don’t let the exterior or parking dissuade you from checking it out — it’s worth it!

As far as comic shops go this place is pretty good it has lots of items and not limited to comics toys and other collectables are a plenty. I was looking for something elvira and i only founf here. I would give it more stars but the staff is not all that friendly and the sideshow figurines are boxed up and behind the counter. I collect those so I would like to see them out rather than have to open each box and there is not much counter space where they are to see them. As well putting them together over and over you can run a risk of damage. The parking needs adjusting. Still if you are looking for something star wars, blank variants or unique this is a great place to start.

Not being a comic book aficionado, I am relegated to the family member hanging out while others drool over the content of this store. As such, I can say they need a few comfy (or otherwise) chairs in this place. My family could spend alot more time and money in this place if I were happily seated somewhere. Parking is an issue here, but I’m sure that is not a surprise to the owners. So once again, a chair or two might help the place out immensely.

I really enjoy coming to this store. It was my first time and everyone was so pleasant. They had all kinds of new and gently used vintage products. It was fun just to browse. This is a great place for children as well as us nerdy adults. They have humous gift ideas all over the store, I highly recommend checking this place out!

A lot of cool toys and trinkets comic selection is good a lot of hard to find old school books but they are priced for profit. I brought in some books to possibly sell and the offer I got was very low I understand you gotta make a profit but offering 100 bucks for 25 books when one book can easily bring 100 is almost an insult. Don’t sell your comics but great place to buy

I stop by here sometimes to get a new issue of The Walking Dead. It’s my 2^nd favorite show on television and I hate waiting until «next season» to see what happens.
A couple months ago, an employee here explained to me for 15 minutes all the differences between the the comic book and the television show. They don’t follow each other 100% of the time but it’s close enough.
Hint: the comic is way more graphic.
Anyway, I really like the staff here. They all seem to love their job and know pretty much everything you’d have any questions about.
As a whole, the whole comic book industry is a shadow of what it once was. Most shops like this has closed down so I’m glad they’re still able to stay in business.
Their prime location in the middle of the Greenway Plaza probably helps. I’m sure the owner has gotten tons of offers to sell this place because the land alone is worth millions.

I love that this store has more than comics! I am new to Houston and I was looking for a good nerdy store to fill all my needs. They had comics and action figures and merchandise like a Star Wars Clock. They even have animé! They have everything that I love!
I decided to stop in there because I was early on my way to work. I did miss their parking lot though. They only have one entry/​outlet to the parking lot and it is on a one way street so you can’t make a U-​turn. The next parking lot will also tow your vehicle if you are not shopping at the store it is connected to. Then the parking lot behind that one was sketchy but my only option at that point. Nothing bad happened so it turned out to be ok. I just wish there was a sign that pointed out the little alley-​way so I would have known that was their parking lot.
Anyway I walked in and was greeted immediately. They asked if I needed any help finding anything. I had just seen the Guardians of the Galaxy movie last week and I have become a little obsessed with Rocket Racoon. I had read that he had his own comic so I asked if they carried it. They did! I got the two that have been published and I also got a bobble head. I really wanted to look at the Star Wars stuff and the Gundam models but I know that I would end up spending a lot more money than I really wanted to so I decided to take what I originally came in for.
I will definitely be coming back and I can’t wait for my next paycheck!

I would definitely consider this place a dive because its appearance and location… that being said; it is one of the better shops in Texas. The employee told that this shop is the 2^nd oldest comic shop in the country. I found killer silver age books here and a large selection of variant and rare comics. It has average new stuff and a very large assortment of vintage toys. Supplies were of average assortment too. If you are in the market for very old comics for cheap… this is the best in town… if not the state. I can only list a few other stores that can beat this one in and out of state to find old rare comics.

I went to this independent shop to purchase an item I had called about just that morning, and was told the price was $ 82, but much to my dismay, when I arrived, the owner had marked it up to $ 600. He told me it had increased in value over nite and to get it I would have to pay the new price. He was very rude and said it was about the money, NOT customer service! Hmmmm…
I am not new to this collecting craze, I owned a retail shop in the 80&90’s when Beanie Babies were nuts, but I always sold at fair retail! It’s just really sad when an owner puts money before customer service!!!
He also accused me of being a dealer???, when he doesn’t even know me. I am not a dealer, but a collector and I would have spent lots of money in his shop! Too bad for him!

Comics, collectables, toys, t-​shirts. From baseball to Star Trek to The Big Bang Theory, I rarely leave without buying something. Plus I missed an edition of my Star Trek comic book and they had it special ordered for me. No problem. Helpful folks and a fun place to spend a couple hours looking around.
Whether you want X-​Files, MAD, Archie or Walking Dead comic books they have them. Up front they have a few more expensive vintage collectable ones. The amount of Star Wars action figures and collectables is mind boggling. I wish they had more Star trek stuff… but that’s just my personal collection. I’ve been buying some Big Bang Theory items lately. I have a friend who’s into marvel comics and she has found a lot of great stuff there to add to her collection.
It’s a nerdgasm for folks like me who want vintage and new or who want to see what the cool kids are really into these days. It can be a bit overwhelming if you are just by to look around. If you have a specific thing in mind any of the very friendly and helpful staff will answer your questions, locate what you want in the store or help you order it.
Stop by one day and just hang out.

Comics and action figures aren’t for your «40 yr old virgin» anymore! The help and customer service was great but my main complaints would be the narrow parking and prices. It’s a tad steeper here than your bedrock city and probably equivalent to nan’s. I would say the selection of collectibles here was expansive though.

My boys are starting a new hobby… Comic books… So we heard of this great place and stopped in… great place and very friendly… Dusty is awesome!!! They have picked their first… The Amazing Spiderman for my youngest and Adventure Time for my eldest…

If your like me and watch Toy Hunters, collect vintage toys, love 1980s Transformers, Starwars toys, this is your spot. Not a HUGE collection of vintage stuff, mostly 1990 and up, but the old stuff they do have is really cool. Bought several items, prices are not bad… there is however dust on everything! a good dusting could go a long way in this place, parking confusing if you miss the entrance!
Overall, this is probably Houston’s best comic book/​toy shop/​vintage toys spot to go, if your looking to blow a few hundred bucks and a couple hours, come here, you won’t be disappointed, it satisfys an itch! Over 8000 square feet of toys!

Only con, the AC could be turned on a little longer at times, I found myself sweating, not sure of excitement or just the fact the AC in the place was not sufficient in cooling the building down. Other than that, Third Planet is AWESOME.

The second best out of my three stop tour, the collection here is extensive and myriad. The problem is that each time I asked for a certain book it was sold out. The place looks kind of old on the inside, but they have some pretty cool posters and gear. I even saw some old edition comics that would be a collector’s dream.

Went in for Free Comic Book Day and I was impressed with their immersion of the culture. They had artists and writers there selling their work and the atmosphere really felt good.
Parking is a little tough since they only have one small lot but there are other lots available.
Some of the items were a little pricey, but this probably where I will call my comic book home while in Houston.

Third Planet has a massive selection of. well, just about everything you can think of.
Third Planet is up-​to-​date on all the newest releases, including some indie and local comics. They have a very large selection of back issues, both classic and modern. They also stock many graphic novels, including manga. In addition, they stock lots of science fiction and fantasy novels.
This is also one of the largest toy stores in Houston, except most of their toys are collectibles. No matter where you are in the store, there are plenty of toys within arms’ reach. Even if you aren’t a collector, you’ll probably recognize some their toys from your childhood or teen years.
That aside, you will also find VHS tapes, posters, props, and tons of memorabilia. They really seem to carry just about anything you could be interested in.
Third Planet isn’t without it’s negatives.
Despite it’s size, the store is pretty cramped and disorganized. It takes a lot of time to get through this place, even if you know what you are looking for. Their prices are also hit-​and-​miss. Some things are priced higher than what they’re worth or what other stores are charging. Among Houston comic shops, their parking lot is easily the worst in town!
Negatives aside, Third Planet is still the largest in town and the workers are pretty nice. It isn’t my favorite store in Houston, but it’s still fun to come here sometimes.
