Hired Tonetti after seeing work done for another client a few years back(I even went to see his own home updates at the that time as well), and after seeing his signs on projects in the Heights. I have a 1930’s bungalow. I hired him for four projects: new roof, new kitchen floors and back-splash, exterior paint and prep, replace shower pan and change out tile and move toilet in a small bath. All projects were 50% up front /50% on completion. Roof completed and paid. Kitchen floors and tile in, but hole in ceiling for vent hood and some other minor other issues never completed — so 50% balance not paid. I’ve had to do some of the minor issues(caulk and paint) myself. Exterior painting missed two sections — so project not completed and balance not paid. Bathroom never started. So far it has been a month with no workers, no phone call returns, no text message returns — no contact. Still have some of their tools, ladders, lumber and supplies stacked up under my carport(they left a big mess pile which I cleaned up myself and extracted this stuff from). The main worker(who did the tile and back-splash) came about a month ago to pick up his wet-saw and he said that he had not been paid. He also said that he had been with Tonetti for six years. The work that they did do was mostly really good, and I’d be happy to pay him the rest if they would complete the work, so I’m perplexed. I’m also stuck — do I hire someone else to finish the projects with the budgeted funds that I still have left, and then possibly have him come back and demand the rest of his money, or do I move on? It’s now been over 3 months since I last heard from Mr. Tonetti, no response to text, phone calls, emails, registered letter, or regular mail — so we moved on and have now hired someone else to complete the work per OK from our attorney.
