I went in with high expectations having read some reviews. The monkey brains were creative but didn’t do too much for me. Sushi was decent. What stood out was the«top sushi» options. Get anything with a quail egg on it!

One of the worst sushi meals I’ve had. I love sushi, and this meal was not worth the money, not even in the most remote sense possible!

Yummo!!! I’m very picky when it comes to sushi and this place delivered. Quan was my waiter and he was friendly and on point the entire visit. I had miso, a house salad, escolar, and a specialty roll(I don’t remember the name of it but it was wrapped in cucumber). Everything was delicious and fresh. O! And I lucked out — I caught the end of happy hour so my bill was super cheap! Next time I’m in town I will stop here again!

Unassuming, solid little sushi place with a clean, cool vibe atmosphere. Nice little lunch menu– I had the chef special lunch which came with miso soup and a bunch of sushi and sashimi.

This past Monday my friend and I went to Top Sushi. Not going to lie, we are both pretty particular about our sushi and did not have high expectations. From the outside, Top Sushi is easily missed in the strip of other stores. The glass on the outside is blackened so you cannot see into the restaurant. Once inside, Top Sushi has a very chill ambiance. Even though the tables are pretty close together, there is still a sense of privacy at each table. And the wait staff is AMAZING! Very attentive and have great suggestions. Now, onto the food. It was happy hour so we didn’t break the bank, making the experience even better. We started with Miso Soup, Crab Puffs, and Monkey Brains. The broth in the soup has a great depth of flavor. It tastes as though it was slowly cooked all day and was perfect for the chilly weather outside. The Crab Puffs are warm, the cream cheese and crab melted together inside the crunchy wanton, served with a cold dipping sauce. Great combo. However, Monkey Brains was definitely the star of our appetizers. It is a whole avocado stuffed with warm tuna, crab, and cream cheese with a drizzle of eel sauce and mayo. The avocado is cold so the different heats play well on the tongue. I also was not expecting the different textures to meld so well, I was expecting it to be very mushy. Definitely a pleasant surprise. Next we ordered three rolls: the Yummy Roll, the Tuna Crunch Jalapeño, and the Push Roll. Each roll consists of 8 pieces, perfect for sharing. The Yummy Roll is composed of yellowtail, white tuna, and avocado topped with garlic and cilantro. As an Indian-American, the combination of cilantro and garlic is quite familiar to me, and the balance in the Yummy Roll is quite impressive. Top Sushi manages to tone down these potent flavors and let the fish shine through. The Tuna Crunch Jalapeño is my favorite of the three. Spicy Tuna with a pronounced crunch that did not become mushy with yellow fin tuna and jalapeños on top. The burn is definitely the best part! I hate jalapeños that have no kick. Lastly, the Push Roll has spicy salmon and a crunch, topped with pepper tuna, escolar, and avocado, all drizzled with eel sauce and wasabi mayo. The topping literally melts in your mouth until you get to the crunchy salmon. Then it is like a whole new bite. They serve all their rolls with with the usual wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce. If you ask, they will give you low sodium soy sauce and extra wasabi and ginger for free. Their ginger is freshly pickled. Not sure if in house; however, it is does not have that chemical taste normally found in sushi house ginger. We finished our meal with Deep Fried Oreos. Each plate comes with five Oreos, topped with a fresh slice of strawberry, three scoops of ice cream, all drizzled with chocolate. We chose the green tea ice cream and it did not disappoint. The perfect end to a fabulous meal. We plan to go back for another meal in the near future.

I love this place! I have been to Uchi, MF Sushi, Kata Robota, Soma, and many other sushi restaurants but I would say this place is legit with the quality of food they have, the service and especially their cheap prices during happy hour! You can’t not beat their prices and and the quality of food! Their Monkey brain was so good, sounds weird but it’s delicious. Their crispy Calamari is one of the best I’ve had and their soft shell crab oh boy was that crunch so good. I highly Recommend trying their scorpion roll or Push roll also. I will definitely come back again. :)

The manager was friendly and was trying to help all around the FOH. Only thing is that my table had to flag waiters down but we understand that it was a Sunday night and there were only 3 people working. Food was delicious and the Happy Hour menu had great selections and discounts. Expect a wait on the weekends but well worth it!

I’ve been to Top Sushi many times over the past few years. I’ve never come across something that was not good, but it’s not the best Japanese place I’ve ever had. Decent happy hour and cute, boutique ambiance.

Disappointed with the quality of sushi here. The Escolar was not entirely white and the rice is not cooled prior the sushi being formed. Which resulted in the fish getting warm. Yuck! They still get two stars tho, because the service was good and the ambiance was nice.

Awesome sushi place with great happy hour items like $ 2 beer and 20% off speciality rolls, it’s a very tiny place but with a trendy atmosphere and great variety in terms of items on the menu, fish was very fresh, loved the crayfish roll and their happy hour times are awesome, I believe they have happy hour all day on the weekends, will definitely come back

This is my go to place for sushi and it doesn’t hurt either that they offer reversed happy hour and all day Sunday happy hour. I was so glad to find this place since I was so tired of camping out at Kona Grill for a table during happy hour. This place seems to have mixed reviews when it comes to the sushi itself. I give this place 5 stars for the total restaurant experience. Yes, sushi here are not the best Houston has to offer. But if that’s what you’re looking for then there’s Uchi for you. Just get ready to pay for it. This place deserves a five stars because of the quality of food you get for a decent price, the atmosphere is very intimate(great for date night), the service is awesome, and the servers are super friendly. If you don’t already have your normal rolls that you always order then try shaggy dog roll, volcano roll, and push roll. For appetizer, I had Tunacho recently and was very impressed with it. Oh and the happy hour drinks are awesomely cheap! Now only if they learn how to make angry Edamame like Kona Grill then I would be alot happier.

I came here for a friend’s birthday dinner during their reverse happy hour and everything went really smoothly. Awesome service! The waiter and waitress were both very attentive. We didn’t have a problem with them at all. The atmosphere is pretty much the same as any other sushi places so I wasn’t impressed or bothered. Going to get sushi is always awkward when you’re a vegetarian because most people don’t consider fish, meat? I didn’t have a difficult time trying to ask them to accommodate me. They were really helpful and nice to me about it. I ordered the vegetarian combo(not on the happy hour menu) and the portion were a lot more than the other places that I’ve been to. I absolutely love the cucumber sushi wrap! They tasted fresh! Since I don’t eat a lot of rice anyways, I was really happy to see them use variety of ways to make this combo. I felt like they really took their time to consider a nicer alternative for us rather than putting us on the back burner because we’re not their target consumer. Extra tip: For those who want to order the agedashi tofu, tell the waiter/waitress to ask the chef to remove the topping because I think they’re squid flakes.

My niece’s favorite sushi spot. She’s only 6! This place is very accommodating. Been here numerous times and I keep coming back. Nice atmosphere for a family dinner or date night. I like the décor. There is a full bar for those who like to drink. You can even get a bottle of henny. Happy hour is good and reasonably priced. There is a wide variety of rolls. From simple to specialty, you can’t really go wrong with anything. Staff is super friendly. They gave the kids free drinks while we were waiting: D

A 4 for quality but a 5FORHAPPYHOUR! Definitely run here for happy hour or reverse happy hour(after 9 on Friday and Saturday) for some awesome deals. You can check some of the photos fellow Unilocalers have provided for reference(thank you!!). The boyfriend and I have still been scouting for a good sushi place was good prices, and we have completely found it here. We were also super impressed with the ambiance of this place(4) for a fun Saturday night. It’s a bit dark with a beautiful fish tank in front and a gorgeous bar as well as a sushi bar on the other end and tables in the middle. To give you an idea of how much people like it, it was still packed at 10:30 on Saturday. Every single dish in my opinion was a 4 in quality. Some were a 4 in value and some were a 5 but they were all worth getting. We got as follows: –House Salad –Crab Puffs –Jalapeño Poppers –Calamari(Super impressed with this) –Spicy Tuna Handroll –Kinski Roll –Buddy Roll –Volcano Roll I had 2 glasses of the house wine(a decent cab!) for $ 5 and my boyfriend tried some of the beers(non-domestic are $ 3) and tried one house drink(one of the iced teas for $ 5, which he said he wouldn’t recommend as it wasn’t strong). Our total bill was less than $ 75, even with all of that food(yes, please don’t judge us). We were super happy with that value for the food we had. Also, our waitress was Vi, and she was super attentive and had an awesome personality. She gave honest opinions on each dish, and I would definitely say you’re in good hands if you have her. Please give this place a shot if you’re looking for an awesome reverse happy hour for sushi.

I read some reviews for this restaurant, and wanted to try it out for happy hour because the prices were so good. My friends and I came for all day happy hour on Sunday, and I left very underwhelmed. I got the popular push roll and monkey brains, and both of them were just okay. The monkey brains were pretty good, but the filling was a little lacking. It just tasted like a lot of avocado and needed more sauce. I had high expectations for the push roll based on all the good reviews, but it was very mediocre. The roll was kind of small, and it was a lot of rice without a lot of fish. The rice was also not seasoned very well and tasted very bland. All in all, not very impressive. The prices were cheap, but you get what you pay for, I guess.

Came here for their Reverse Happy Hour on a Friday night 9-midnight. The Happy Hour menu is impressive and super affordable! We sat at the sushi bar and had impeccable service. Most appetizers and light bites are between $ 2 – 8. We ordered the egg rolls, shrimp tempura, beef rolls, and salmon crunch along with their California rolls and some additional sushi and shared. Everything we ordered was off the Happy Hour menu. Two people for $ 70 including tip isn’t bad for sushi. I’ll definitely be back.

I miss living near this place. I used to go all the time. Note that this review is solely for the happy hours at Top Sushi, as I’ve never been when they don’t have HH. But the fact that they have both Regular and Reverse HH on weekends means you’re almost guaranteed to catch them during Happy Hour. The prices are fantastic, and the food is consistent. I love their Super Crunchy Roll, it’s delicious. Their salad isn’t half bad either. Drinks prices are great, and the staff is always friendly. It’s small and cozy, and a great date place. I love taking the wife here. I love this place as one of the most affordable and better tasting sushi Happy Hours in Houston. Keep it up, Top Sushi!

They have variety of special rolls. We ordered fami-le roll, mama mia rolls and push roll. They all were delicious and each has its unique flavor. I believe mama mia roll was riceless. We ordered a fried tempura green tea ice-cream. It was good but i wished they didn’t put too much of chocolate syrup which masked the taste of match green tea. I would come back again!

I love this place for many reasons! 1. Outdoor seating(2 bar top tables) so if I am craving sushi and I have my dog with me, we can still have sushi with our pup! 2. Service: excellent! Always quickly served and food comes out fast. Our server always brings a bowl of water for our dog and is attentive to our table(refills water, checks on us to see if we need anything else). 3. Food: at our second visit here, I asked our server what roll he recommends and was very impressed at how knowledgeable he was about the menu. I took his advice and ordered the Push Roll and it is so good! I love the salmon nigiri as well. We also got to try the green tea dessert which was absolutely delicious. 4. Sundays is all day happy hour! What’s better than that?
