This was my final meal in Houston and I couldn’t have asked for a better one. The parking right in front of the building is pretty limited but there were plenty of spaces in the back lot on a Friday night. I ordered the J’s special which comes with sausage, brisket, ribs and two sides. And like a proper BBQ joint, there was a self-serve station for onions, pickles and jalapeños. I hate relying on someone to give me my jalapeño fix. A lot of times at a BBQ place, I find that meat is really good but the sides are just average, but I can honestly say that I really enjoyed both my sides of green beans and dirty rice. The rice had such great flavor and tasted like it had some liver in it versus just whatever ground meat that most places usually put. And the green beans were piping hot with an intense fatty pork flavor. Because only in the South do the vegetable dishes have almost just as much meat as the meat dishes. On top of this, the people working there seemed really friendly and one employee even went out of his way to make sure I had everything I needed before I left. The ribs did have a few tough bites, but they were mostly perfect. The same could be said about the sausage but brisket was near perfect in my book. This place was definitely memorable and highly recommended if you’re in the area.

One of my favorite black bbq restaurants in town. They have also been serving bbq as one of the vendor booths at the rodeo for nearly 20 years. They are located in the hood, but they definitely know how to cook up some great bbq. This is another one of those places I frequent where I’m usually the only white person in the whole place. After waiting in the short line, enjoy some of the best bbq Texas has to offer. Homemade links and brisket are what I usually order, whether I get it on a plate, or on their potato. Their sides are usually decent too, but I usually stick to either green beans, dirty rice or potato salad. They do add brisket to their green beans and smoked sausage pieces to the baked beans. Most customers order to go since they don’t have a lot of seating inside… just 1 large table and about 12 barstools around the perimeter of the room with ledges. There is actually more seating outside, but I’ve never seen anyone sit there, except for me.

So, let’s be honest we all know Houston’s bbq options are very slim. I managed to find one good place in Sugarland and was looking for a new great bbq spot. I remembered trying a baked potato from this place during the fair and it was delicious. So I decided to hunt them down and see if it was as good as I remembered. Is there a line yes, is there limited seating yes, is this the best bbq in Houston… yes we might just have a contender. Meal Details: Ribs, baked beans, potato salad for like 12 bucks. Portions were great, meat was tender, potato salad was yummy(& lets be honest Houston bbq joints usually suck at making good potato salad). I was so happy I had drove across town from Southwest to get this meal! Nothing disappointed. Ribs were tender and also the bbq sauce was really good! I am very particular on sauce and it really complimented the meat! Although there was a line it moved very quickly! I am going to try not to make this spot a weekly spot because it is a little far for me! But, if you are on that side of town then you need to tried them!

This is a must NOT miss Smokehouse for the serious eaters in this world. The portions are as large as the guys severing you. Make sure you know what you want to oder, before you get in line. Choices are simple and all smoked deliciously: Chicken, Brisket, Bulled Pork, Sausage. Try the collared greens, you will not be disappointed. These guys know exactly what they are doing.

While I love their food specifically the three meat potato… I hate going to restaurants that are advertised as being«open» only to show up and the doors are locked. It’s very misleading and to be quite honest not great for business. Above all, will be trying them again but just a heads up call before you go.

This place is beyond delicious… The baked potato is amazing. It’s GOOD! Not a whole lot more to say. Definitely worth a visit… or two

WOW. Came to visit my brother in Houston and we decided to stop here for lunch. The place is TINY and the line for lunch is long but moves fairly quickly. Cafeteria-style serving. We got the brisket, the pork ribs, and sausage. I truly cannot decide which of these was the best as they were all equally as delicious. The brisket was perfectly tender, the ribs had the perfect crispy outside and moist fall-off-the-bone inside. The sausage had a great flavor and the BBQ sauce was on point. My only regret is that I do not have a larger stomach.

A must stop every time I go home. Some of the best most tender barbecue in da state. Small on the inside and the line could look crowded but they move smoothly. But even if you have to wait it’s well worth it.

This place was packed as soon as it opened. It seems like most people come in and get their food to go, but there is some patio space and a small(and I do mean small) area to sit inside if you choose to dine in. I had the Triple J’s baked potato. The potato was cooked well. It was topped with chopped beef, sausage(which was amazing), a full rib, and the usual fixins of sour cream, cheese, scallions, etc… I thought the beef could have been seasoned a bit better and I wasn’t crazy about the bbq sauce but the sausage and rib made up for all of that. All of the meat was juicy and they aren’t stingy with the food. The portion size was humongous and I had enough left over for another meal the next day. Definitely hit this spot up if you’re in the area.

I highly recommend anyone in the area to go here and get some delicious Texas BBQ. The chopped beef potato was full of flavor and the ribs fell right off the bone. Everyone was friendly and the portions were Texas size!

Wanted to try some TXBBQ as we drove through Houston. Saw this place had great reviews. Definitely should have read the reviews about the seating and meal portions. Despite no inside dining, this place is worth it. The meal portions are huge. The meat is juicy, tender and smoky. Everything you want in BBQ! The sauce is one of the best I’ve had and pairs with their meat wonderfully. My only qualm is the bread. It’s a bit stale and just plain bread. Some garlic Texas toast would make it even more spectacular, but that’s just my opinion. In short, great BBQ, better to take it to go, portions big, expect a line

Triple J’s Smokehouse is located on the north side of Houston on Homestead Rd. just blocks north of the 610 loop. Triple J’s may be on the north side, but its southern roots has made it one of the very best BBQ spots in Houston for over 20 years… that is no small feat! As soon as you pull up in the spacious parking area in the back, you know you’re going to experience a typical Texas BBQ hangout. I am so overwhelmed with the wonderful aroma of smoking meats that I stop for a second and put my hand over my heart — knowing I am in for a good ‘olé Texas treat! BBQ in Texas and, more importantly, in Houston, is more than just a culinary experience. It is about family, friends, history, tradition, pride — in short, it is part of our identity. As soon as you walk into Triple J’s Smokehouse, you can see right away that this place is all about community and family. As you can see in the photography, the walls are covered with pictures of famous people and just regular folks from the community who have eaten there on family outings as well as sports logos and memorabilia. As you make your way through the line(which I understand can be quite long at times) you come to the main area where you place your order and get your meal cafeteria-style. In typical Southern fashion, we are loudly greeted and rewarded with a huge smile by what looks to be the host. This experience is just getting better and better. We ordered a couple of Strawberry Daiquiris(which you can order to go, by the way) along with a bit of BBQ history: The Big J, The Raven’s Bowl and J’s special. I take one sip of my Strawberry Daiquiri and think to myself how blessed I am to be in Houston, but more importantly, in Triple J’s Smokehouse right now. There’s no inside dining, so we head out to the covered patio where there are plenty of fans and a nice breeze for this time of year. Although it’s an enjoyable space, there are few patrons. It looks like most people get their meal to go. First up is the Big J: an enormous baked potato stuffed with butter and cheese then topped with beef, sausage and ribs. No joke. Talk about a meal fit for a king! This is a great choice for those who’d like to try it all. The smoky brisket and juicy sausage were just bursting with the great flavor you’d expect with Texas BBQ. But, my favorite was the pork ribs; it was made with just the right amount of bark along the outside and the meat simply fell off the bone. Unbelievable! The J’s Special is what you want to get if you’d like to skip the baked potato and try other sides. As with the Big J, you get beef brisket, sausage and ribs. But, with this meat bonanza, we ordered Cajun Rice and green beans — both excellent choices. The green beans were exceptional — they tasted as though they had been cooked with bacon grease, my favorite way! Last, but not least, we discovered a tasty new combination for our neck of the woods. The Raven’s Bowl was a delicious mix of crispy French fries topped with cheese and chopped beef. You wouldn’t think the taste would be much different from getting this combo on a baked potato, but the flavor profile from the French fries makes it unique. I would suggest this as an appetizer to share with a couple of other people. I loved the Raven Bowl although it’s not something you will find at most BBQ joints. I just love the BBQ here in Texas, the slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bone-style ribs have me salivating as I type. Triple J’s Smokehouse is doing it as good as I have tasted and with love from the north side of Houston. If you are looking for a true Houston, Texas BBQ experience, then look no further. It’s like being transported back to a time when things were simpler and, to be honest, good and pure. I will be back for years to come and bringing out-of-towners with me, for sure! If you haven’t made your way over to this award winning spot, I suggest you do, pronto!

This restaurant is not in a part of town that I frequent but after seeing the Unilocal reviews I bookmarked it for a visit. Last night I went there. First of all this is what I call a true BBQ joint. Kind of run down on the outside and inside. Nothing fancy here but then sometimes places like this can have great food. When I walked in I noticed that there is no inside dining area. You walk up to the counter and order cafeteria style. Everything looked good and I ordered the ½ chicken plate that came with two sides. I chose their baked beans and green beans. Got my drink and went outside to eat under the covered area on picnic tables. I sat near a fan so that it would keep a few flies at bay that were buzzing around my food. The strategy only worked some of the time. The ½ chicken was cut up into 4 pieces with sauce slathered over them as I asked. The bird pieces looked good but were average to small in size. Upon tasting them the first thing I realized how smoky the taste was. The chicken was good but even with the deep smoke flavor I rated it a 3.5. The baked beans had bell pepper and onions in it and was good(3.5). The green beans with small pieces of brisket and I think bacon was very good(4). I also purchased a link of boudin for $ 3.99 to sample. This boudin was very smoky with flavor too but was a little soft and more mushy inside than normal. I thought it was good and gave it a(3). I am giving the overall experience a 3. While I believe this is a good place to eat I am not sure if the smokiness of their meats is due to wood smoking or using liquid smoke. The meal was good and I would order it again however next time if I get by here I will go for the brisket. The lack of indoor dining is a negative to me. I live too far away to take it home so I have to eat it there. In the summer you have the heat and flies. When I finished and took my trash to the waste can and there were many flies there which was a negative. This is probably a better place to get it to go and eat at home if you are nearby.

If your still paying $ 15 bucks for 3 ribs and 4 slices of brisket there is really something wrong. Triple J’s is to me by far the best BAR B Q and best BAR B Q for the money in town; there is no other that comes to close to them. Chicken? On point! Ribs? On point! brisket? On point! Smoked boudin hot or mild? On point! I know for some the drive maybe far be hear me out if you’ll drive to Austin for some bar b q that has been on TV then you should treat yourself and drive 20,30,45mins for some the best BAR B Q in Houston! It’s worth it.

I ordered the sliced beef and sausage. The skin on the sausage was so tough I could not cut it with a plastic knife. Once I peeled the sausage like a banana, the inside did not taste too bad. The sliced beef was very fatty but pretty tender. The barbecue sauce was way too sweet, like soda sweet. This will not be one of my regular paces to say the least. Edit I was told from one of their regulators on Unilocal that they must have just been having an off day. From reading the other reviews I tend to agree and since I have a friend that goes there a lot I might give them another try and I will update this review if my opinion changes.

Oh my, I just finished devouring my lunch this afternoon and all I can say is you gotta try this place! It’s not a fancy restaurant, it’s a little hole in the wall that has food made with love. I went around lunchtime on a Saturday so it was super packed, be prepared for a line for lunchtime any day of the week. The food is served cafeteria style mainly to go. I ordered the three meat plate, ribs, sausage and chopped beef, it comes with two sides, I ordered green beans and baked beans. I also wanted to taste the smoked boudain so ofcourse I indulged… The food is superb. I savored every bite, the ribs are tender and delicious, great flavor! The smoked sausage is excellent, they also have homemade sausage but you have to request it. The chopped beef will have you salivating, and the boudain was kind of mushy but has great flavor. You will not be disappointed.
