Rented a truck to do a quick one day gig in Austin. U-Haul has the most competitively priced truck rentals so I hopped over. So, the day I pick up the rental the guy lost my reservation… but he played it off by refilling out the paperwork in just a few minutes. Unlucky for me this whole situation set me back almost 45 minute, and to boot, the truck wasn’t prepped and I had to go all the way to the back of the property to get it. As I was driving I kept hearing this annoying buzzing sound from the driver side seat belt. I was buckled in but it kept buzzing. Can this be true??? Not only was the reservation botched but now I have a faulty sensor? There was no way I was going to spend the day in a car that every five minutes makes a buzzing sound… Turns out I was just dumb and I had buckled into the wrong seat buckle(it was the middle seat buckle… yeah, I felt dumb. The truck drove well. I learned a couple of things: — The only trucks that have ramps are 14 footers or larger($ 29.95) — There is a gauge that estimates MPG(miles per gallon) which is useful as heck when its a 37 gallon tank and can take up to $ 200 to full up. — It’s $ 0.69 per mile… no per day allowance(which is what you give up when you get a great per day rental rate) — Moving stuff sucks even more when its 100 degrees outside — Just because they say there is a third jump seat in the middle doesn’t mean it is just as comfortable as the other seats… because its not unless you are a child or are very small. When I returned the truck the next day the manager gave me a break on returning the truck the following day. I apparently drove 375 miles. Not so bad.
