University of Houston

Although I may be a bit bias against UH since I’m not a student here, I’ll try my best to be as objective as possible. I’ve never taken a tour here or sat in on a class, but I’ve run through campus a couple times and attended a graduation for the school of natural sciences.
Judging on aesthetics, UH isn’t the prettiest campus. Very large in size and somewhat old. But not old in like the regal or elegant sense that the architecture of private universities like to shoot for… And also definitely not as modern and clean-​cut like the other public universities that I’m acquainted with like UT Austin or CU Boulder. It’s got a very much cement-​heavy vibe, which is not my personal favorite.
Graduation was interesting. It seemed disorganized? Maybe it’s a product of the sheer size of student population where just the students of natural sciences could equal my entire school’s student body. Thus, the ceremony was very rushed and the seating area was very similar in looks and atmosphere of that of a sporting event rather than a graduation. The people in charge of security or seating here were rude though. My grandmother needs a wheelchair to comfortably move around and they were not accommodating of that even though we brought our own. And when the commencement was over, they hurriedly ushered us out, refusing to allow re-​access to the building when we needed to find our graduated student. It was a very hectic experience.
I do give UH their props for their students and students’ families. They seem to really love UH and are proud to graduate from here! But I can see why most ditch the dorm life here after one year…
