I would give this place zero star. I called and ask for the price, I could not say that I want to order, they hang up. I called back and asked why they hang up the phone, the lady said she is so busy and hang up the phone again.

Van Loi does indeed have the best banh hoi tuoi(fresh thin rice vermicelli) in Htown! I see their products all over Chinatown at the Asian grocery stores, bakeries, and even restaurants. They have kept up with the demand over the years and the banh hoi is still just as delicious as ever! Besides serving up amazing banh hoi, they also provide various Vietnamese foods(desserts, hot foods like curry, beef stew, grilled pork, stir-fry noodles, and even vegetarian foods) for budget-friendly catering needs. I would advise coming here with a Vietnamese friend to avoid difficulties with communication. Be sure to try my favorite thing to eat with banh hoi– Dac Hung’s roast pork, fried onions, cucumbers, cilantro, pickled carrots/daikon, and sweetened fish sauce with chili. Sometimes we just don’t have time to make it at home and stopping by Van Loi is the best option. Go to Van Loi to pick-up banh hoi to eat with yummy roasted/grilled meats. One 16 oz package of banh hoi is affordable and only $ 2.99! Happy feasting well into the New Year Unilocalers!

Their stuff is everywhere. You just don’t know it. Best Banh Hoi around. If you get a chance, get some of their fried onion. It’s a great topper.

I loveeeee Van Loi’s bánh bèo!(And I’m not even Vietnamese, so that says something.) For anyone who doesn’t know what bánh bèo is, it’s a steamed rice cake typically topped with minced shrimp, crispy pork rinds, scallions, fish flakes, and swimming in Vietnamese fish sauce. Pretty addicting stuff. I let my boyfriend do all the talking whenever we order something here since he’s Viet, but from what I can see, this place dishes out tons of «bánh”/cakes/pastries/breads, among other Vietnamese foods. It’s a small place and you’re better off ordering take-out(since there are only two tables inside).

I was craving sugar, and we stopped by one evening around 7:15…it was strange that they were closed for 7pm. but the lady was in side, saw us lurking by the door, let us in and served me my tiramisu and mocha desserts. Tiramisu, hands down. best ever. Go here, you won’t regret it… and its super cheap? $ 5 for 2 desserts. I ain’t complainin’
