This place is a block from our Krav gym. We’ve been twice now as a group. First time we got the spaghetti w/meat sauce, added sausage and the server recommended we add sautéed onions/peppers/shrooms. Now, I wouldn’t typically order spaghetti in a restaurant, let alone a bar? But it was excellent! Service was quick and friendly. Second time service was slowwwwww and half our table ordered food at the bar and had it half eaten before the rest gave up waiting and went up to order at the bar too. That said, I tried their fish and chips that time and it was excellent — being European, I have high standards for my fish and chips and this is tasty for sure! We’ll be back :)

I have mixed feelings about this bar not about the staff or the set up I feel the bar is split in two. Outdoor area offers volleyball courts and seems all the pretty people congregate outside inside seems like all the artsy, hipster, bohemian, hippie hang no big deal still a great time crowd seems clannish though. Clannish does not mean Racial for those of you that do not know the meaning of the word go back to school.

Food was SURPRISINGLY good for a bar whose main purpose is to serve those who are there to utilize volleyball courts. In particular, giving a shout out to their French fries. YUM. I think they put some sort of truffle or maybe cheese on top after they fry them and they’re just delicious. Even better when dipped in ranch. The bar is great for people who want to play volleyball and also for those who just want to spectate. The music and smells of this bar reminded me of a few bars I used to frequent while in Florida on vacation every year; 70’s era rock and a slight breeze coming through the open air seating. Keep in mind, you are protected from the rain if you sit on any of the patios.

Decent food and good prices. Service can be pretty slow at certain times and they’ve messed up splitting the bill a few times. I come here to watch my friends compete in the volleyball tournament. I disagree with the refs calls, but i can’t really blame crowbar for that, can I? Very pet friendly, so that’s a plus

Love this place. Awesome ownership that hangs out and plays volleyball. Nothing better than throwing back some beers & diving around in the sand. Great crowd & super fun!

I have been to CrowBar once and I had a really good time. The drinks were well made and it felt great to have the convenience of the outside bar while watching the volleyball games. The environment was super chill. I only wish that parking was easier to find, but I’m sure it was only an issue because of all of the players. Once their 2 parking lots are full, you’ll have to find street parking.

We love this place. Cheap drinks, cheap food but a common complaint seems to be people charging more for happy hour prices on your bill. This has be something we have heard from others as well. Make sure to check tab before signing. It was fixed by Angela our waitress who has been wonderful. We will continue to come here. Like I said great food and cheap drinks with volleyball courts. Just check your tab

We don’t live far away, and decided to go there because they were having pub trivia. It was being held at the same time as the A&M/Louisville bowl game, and although it wasn’t supercrowded, there were probably more than the usual number of people on a Wednesday night. The parking lot was pretty full, but as my husband has a prosthetic foot, we have a handicapped placard for the car, and there were two handicapped spots open right by the door. When we walked in, we tried to figure out what area the trivia would be held in, but it wasn’t apparent, so we sat up at the bar. Eventually the bartender came over to us, and we put in our beer order(many draft beers on tap, including some interesting ones). We also ordered the hummus and veggies, and on the bartender’s recommendation, the special that day, which was described as «Texas Chili.» When we asked him where the trivia would be held, he recommended that we move into an area adjacent to the bar, and gave us a number so the food could be brought to us. The hummus came very quickly, and was delicious. The accompanying pita bread was soft and tasted very fresh, and the celery and carrots provided variety. But then came the«Texas Chili». As I grew up in the Midwest where beans are included in chili, I don’t have any problem with them, but it’s my understanding that Texas-style chili omits them, so I certainly wasn’t expecting them in a dish labeled as such. The big problem with the chili though wasn’t its ingredients or taste, but the fact that it arrived barely lukewarm. And then the real fun of the evening began: how to find a server. The food runners didn’t seem to be taking orders, and the one person who did seem to be waiting on tables was either no place to be found or didn’t respond to our attempts to flag her down. Eventually she did become at least visible, but only because she spent long periods of time hanging out at a table with a guy who was participating in the trivia game. By that point we’d given up on trying to get someone to bring us more beer, and my husband, prosthetic foot and all, just went up to the bar and brought it back. The place doesn’t have pitchers, so we had to do that for each round, and as a result, drank only about half of what we normally would consume for the length of time we were there. Another great annoyance was the seating. We’d ended up in a booth overlooking the volleyball court, and I was backed up to a family with one young boy and his older brother. The seating area of the booths move, and the family apparently thought nothing of letting their children jump up and down and run in and outside, slamming their seat into the back of mine every time they got up. I’m sure the people who occupied that booth after the family left would have loved to know they were sitting where someone with bare feet had been jumping. We don’t play volleyball, but the people that do seemed to be having a good time, and it was nice that on a cold night, the location had«fire tables» near the court where people could drink and eat around a central fire. The trivia game itself was fine, and that plus the food being tasty, the location being not far from our home, and parking being easy for us would have brought us back, knowing to avoid the booths. But as playing trivia while drinking beer is how we want to spend our evening, we’d rather drive a little farther and receive attentive service. I cut places slack when there’s a crowd, as long as the servers seem to be trying their best – but here at least either nobody was responsible for our section, or the one in charge of it preferred chatting with a single patron than making sure other patrons’ needs were being met. And we regularly receive great service in places with huge crowds(thank you, Griff’s and Coaches Pub), so some places do know how to compensate when they expect more people. Also, although the location isn’t directly responsible for kids running wild, it is responsible for being the type of place where the people who are responsible – the parents – feel that’s perfectly okay. In short, unless you want to play or watch volleyball, you’d do best finding a a place with a more adult atmosphere and table service.

The wakefield crowbar staff is a joke. First point, all there bartenders drink on the job. Second, i can guarantee they have never seen a licensee outside of a Texas license. I am from New York state originally and have just moved to Texas. The Staff refused to serve me because they claim that a license has holograms which my New York state license does. So i was denied service cuz the hick staff owners have never been outside if Texas. Do i have to get a drink with my passport? Ridiculous. Any tourists or ppl visiting family do not attend.

My bf and I recently headed over to Wakefield Crowbar in Oak Forest with some of our kickball teammates for food and drinks after a game. We ordered fried pickles, fried mozzarella, potato skins, and hummus & veggies to share with the table. In my running list of «Reasons to Live in Houston,» I’d have to say fried pickles has had a consistent, snug spot in the top 10. And these fried pickles surely did not disappoint. In chip form, these golden, Lonestar beer battered, fried beauties were more on the sour side, which was a welcoming change of pace. I was a big fan! The fried mozzarella appetizer was also unique in that it came in the form of four large squares, instead of your usual sticks. The hearty squares were super crispy and filled to the brim with oozing mozzarella. The homemade marinara served alongside the squares was warm and not overpowering in flavor. I didn’t go nuts over the potato skins, but then again my(veg) portion of them didn’t have bacon, so yes this was basically my fault. Without the bacon to cut through, they were a little too heavy on the starch. They weren’t bad — I certainly still ate some, but I probably shouldn’t have messed with perfection! Lesson learned. The large portion of hummus, served with vegetables and warm, fluffy pita bread, was quite satisfying. The slightly tart hummus had a chunky texture(I love textured foods) and a surprising kick of heat towards the end of every bite. Nothing revolutionary, but it definitely differed from the norm and was well received by the table! Wakefield Crowbar is a super laid back, spacious neighborhood bar. It also has volleyball courts out back, which can definitely make for a good time! Houston bars cannot afford to serve mediocre food since there are so many great options around, like Wakefield Crowbar. Wakefield Crowbar offers your standard pub fare at a reasonable price, and the food is of good quality, with a few unique twists thrown in!

If I ever need motivation to get my arse into the gym, I know to start at Wakefield. All the ladies on the volleyball court have nice, perky tooshies, they almost make me second guess ordering another beer. Almost. In all seriousness, Wkaefield Crowbar offers more than just volleyball/people watching. They’re dog-friendly on the patio, feature plenty of TVs — plus, it’s the Texas Exes Houston chapter’s official game watching location. They’ve got bar eats, beers on tap, two parking lots. What my friends like most about CrowBar is their brunch. It is not the best in town by any means, but it really isn’t well known so you can always find a quick table. A nice Saturday morning sitting outside and watching Longhorn football, reading the paper, and sipping on free coffee ain’t half bad. Food portions are large so you might consider sharing with a friend.

Definitely a fan, interesting concept. A group of my friends play volleyball here every Thursday, so they asked me if i wanted to cheer them on one Thursday. I drove myself over and plopped down to watch some serious volleyball. The bar is an indoor/outdoor location that allows dogs, and has 3 – 4 volleyball courts that are fenced in. It also as an outdoor bar, and indoor bar. Service was really good, and the prices were fair. We sampled the chicken sandwich, the hummus, and some other bar food. Everything we had was tasty, and I would def. come back. Nice place to come watch a game, sit outside with your pup and have a cold one.

Took my cousin Alan to CrowBar for lunch and it delivers, as always. Alan is from out of town and is debating on whether to relocate to Houston, because he is in the medical industry. We went to CrowBar to knock down a couple coldies and down some chow. The service was good, the beer was cold, and the burgers hit home! Everything was cooked above bar standard food. We enjoyed people watching, as they played volleyball. It left a great impression of Houston with Alan. Will definitely be back.

I am not sure how I haven’t reviewed Wakefield until now! This is certainly our home away from home. The volleyball courts are what had me here before CrowBar was opened and certainly the number one reason to come. If you don’t play it’s still worth coming for the great patio, game day TV watch or just better than your average bar food. I like the healthy options for sure, they always have great salads and grilled chicken but the sweet potato fries are certainly my item to steal from my friends :) The only reason for holding out on the 5th star is the smoking on the patio needs to go. It’s 2015 and this is a place that needs to raise the bar, especially with so much activity going on on the courts. I can’t think of a more unique, perfect spot for Friday night open play or Sunday Funday. It is especially convenient to reserve the courts as well if you have a group large enough where you want to play for hours on end. You just can’t beat the quality of courts at Wakefield!

Went for Sunday brunch intending to order breakfast. But, the lunch menu looked so good, we ordered lunch instead. We arrived about 10:30 and it appeared they were still cleaning up from the night before — emptying trash cans and picking-up beer buckets. Not a big issue since this is a casual place, but seemed like this might have been done prior to opening. I had Fish & Chips. They were amazing… best I’ve had in Houston. Fish was cooked perfectly — flaky and moist. Batter was golden, light, and crispy. Came with crunchy fries and what looked/tasted like creamy, flavorful homemade tarter sauce. Served with malt vinegar too. My companion had the Stank Burger and mashed potatoes. The burger was perfection. It was juicy and tasty. The veggies came on the side and were fresh. The mashed potatoes were fabulous and comes with melty cheese and bacon bits right on top — like eating the best part of a baked potato! Coffee was good. Music was a bit loud for a Sunday morning for me(ate on the patio) but probably not for the people playing volleyball. It was fun to watch the volleyball players. Staff was friendly and service was good.

I don’t know how I haven’t come to Wakefield Crowbar earlier since I live, like, 5 minutes away from here, but I’m glad my friends and I decided to check it out! We actually came to watch the NBA playoffs(it was a good run, Rockets…), but I came late after my friends had ordered food. My friend’s Cobb salad arrived as I did, which looked really good. Even though salad is probably one of the last things I would ever order at a bar, I decided on the Pacific Rim since my friend was chomping away on her salad. The salad was really good, especially the ginger-based dressing. My biggest issue with it, though, was that it was overdressed. Partially my fault, since it slipped my mind to order the dressing on the side. Oh well, I still finished the entire thing… After the game ended, we headed outside to partake in the porch festivities, including a couple rounds of cornhole and shyly asking a group of folks if we could join their sand volleyball game, in which they obliged. What was supposed to be hitting the ball around turned into playing matches for several hours on end, but we were totally ok with that. Keep in mind: sand. Gets. Everywhere. Wakefield is a great time out, and it’s such a chill vibe. Definitely one of my top picks for when friends want a night out!

My favorite bar in Houston. Laid back, some fun games(including TWO volleyball courts!), cheapish beer, darts, and the menu looks good. The outdoor heaters are really awesome in winter too, and the bartenders friendly.

Why havent I been here before? I can watch people in shape play volleyball and pretend I could jump right out there and join them and(queue Top Gun music) kick some ass! or I can just drink some bloody mary’s and mimosas and enjoy the beautiful weather. This place is tucked back on Wakefield Dr, and it is a great spot for an afternoon beverage. We didn’t know it was dog-friendly, but it is, so we’ll be back with the mutts. Chicken wings were dry, but the turkey, avocaodo, swiss sandwich was good. My wife got some massive buffalo burger with egg, and it was very good! Food: 3.5 Drinks: 4 Service: 3(bartenders were good, server didn’t want to be there… pretty much hated life) Atmosphere: 5(on the 75 degree day we went, it was perfect… beware in August.) Price: 4(great price for bloodys and mimosas on Sunday) Overall…again, WHY havent i been here before? if I lose 15 pounds and dont get winded going up the steps, maybe I’ll be back for some v-ball, otherwise, drinking and eating it is…

I’ve been coming to Crowbar more times that I’d like to admit. But hey, the place is only two minutes away driving from my work and they serve a killer grilled chicken sandwich for when I’m trying to be «healthy» so why not? If you don’t know where Crowbar is, it’s located literally a few steps away from Petrol Station. What’s that? You don’t know where Petrol Station is either? Come on now! Google it. Crowbar has a decent sized parking lot. There’s also plenty of street parking and another parking lot across the street(this lot is actually for a business but it’s available for Crowbar patrons in the evening.) All the bartenders that I’ve had the opportunity of meeting here have been nothing but friendly and chill. Big beer selections and the food is not shabby either. I have tried the burger, buffalo burger, sandwich, fried food, whatever and I have not been disappointed. For a bar, the food is not too shabby. Tuesday is for steak. They serve a 12 oz ribeye steak for $ 15 or you can get a 6 oz(or was it 8 oz — sorry I don’t remember) Filet Mignon for $ 20. And let’s not forget that they always have daily specials that they put down on the big ass chalkboard they have inside. As others have mentioned, they have two sand volleyball courts. Since I come in mostly during the day, the courts are usually empty. Well, except for Fridays where you’ll see people on the court playing. This place has also hosted the official football viewing party for Texas Alums and I think they also hosted for TAMU alums as well. But don’t quote me on that. All in all, chill bar, great food(for a bar), huge beer selections, cool bartenders, lots of parking space, and close to work(for me.) Tell me, is there any reason I should stop coming here? I think not!
