Low end Chinese food is like playing a game of Russian roulette and today I lost big time! I figured I would give Wok N Roll a chance because I typically see a long line during lunch hours. I know what to expect when ordering low end/food court style Chinese food. I can handle a few rubbery bites… but the experience was so awful I couldn’t stomach eating any more of my lunch. 1. The General Tso’s was rubbery and some pieces seemed raw. The pieces were not consistent in texture at all. Every bite was equally gross. 2. The egg roll was dry inside and the outside doused with grease. 3. The worst part of all was the sweet and sour sauce located by the napkins and plastic utensils. There was something disturbing about this sweet and sour sauce as it had a iron taste to it almost like blood. I think I’ll stick to PF Changs for awhile. There is nothing worse than continuing through the day regretting what I had for lunch.

For some reason, I was craving bourbon chicken and came here. Line went quick and service was fine. The spring roll I got with my meal was great and the brown rice was not dry or hard. The chicken was like anywhere else and tasted just fine. I may have been overly critical in my last review but you can’t blame this place for not being authentic because that’s not what they’re trying to do. This place caters to the American crowd and it serves its purpose well in that regard.

Wok N’ Roll is located in the Houston Center near Main Street Square station. The food items here are pretty hit-or-miss. I personally really enjoyed their fried vegetable rice. The general chicken was a bit tough, but nevertheless delicious. Service is very quick and friendly. If you decide to walk through the Houston Center and see this place, I’d say give it a try.

Good food, convenient to downtown worker bees. Enjoy the sweetness of bourbon chicken and the spice of generals chicken. I usually get 2 meat plate to-go so I have dinner from leftovers or lunch the next day. Their green beans are so delishous.

Worst. Chinese. Food. Ever! I knew better than to go there, I really did. I’ve been before and decided I just didn’t like it. The General Tso’s Chicken was tough and dried out. But alas, today, I was in the mood for something different than my normal salad, so I thought hey, it’s early, food should be fresh, I’ll give them another try. What a waste of money. The styrofoam container with the majority of the food(General Tso’s chicken, rice and eggroll) is in the trash. The rice was tasteless. Not enough soy sauce in the world could give it flavor. I can’t even begin to describe how bad. It looked fresh, it wasn’t dried out or anything, it just had no flavor. The first bite of chicken tasted as if it wasn’t fully cooked. Subsequent bites were either tough or breading without chicken. Again, bland, bland, bland. Like I said, I threw it in the trash. Note to self, Never Again!

My wife surprised me last week with a visit to my place of employment so I figured we’d take a walk in the tunnels over to the Shops of Houston Center because I wanted to check out this sports store in the building. My wife, our son and myself decide on this place because, well, who can mess up American Chinese food, right? — Well, it wasn’t the worst I’ve ever had but its definitely not the best either. Their white rice is fairly decent but most of the meat we ordered that day seemed to have needed a little longer time on grill if you know what I mean. I think I’ve been to this place before but I can’t remember, and rightly so! Don’t waste your time… go down the hallway to one of the best dumpling places in town! Can’t remember the name… but you can’t miss it!

Definitely not fancy but service is quick, the food is hot, and portions are big. It’s located in the Park Shops downtown which makes it convenient for work day lunches. If I do come here, I typically get white rice, general tso’s chicken, beef, and a steamed vegetable. Everything is doused in sauce so it’s not close to being healthy at all. However, this place works when I’m at work and am craving Chinese food.

Note to self. Even if you’re craving bad/sh*tty«Chinese» food — don’t come here! I was in the mood for shrimp, and there was none out, so the lady said they can make me some in the back. I said ok… Service was fine, speed was fine. It was 10 mini-sized shrimp DOUSED in 2 lbs of sauce. Spaghetti noodle lo mein with no flavor. Sigh. Extra $ 1 for the shrimp, which tasted fishy. Yay for me later. Never again. Upside. I don’t know if it was bc everything else was so bad, but their crab puff was delicious. I would eat that again. But that’s about it.

Quick and hot, Wok N Roll is always a solid option for Chinese food. If you’re roaming the downtown corridors and are craving Chinese, this is a good choice. The line moves quickly. The lunch portions are more than adequate for one, and the price is fair. This location is situated in the tunnels under McKinney Street. The bourbon chicken has a good batting average for tastiness. Don’t forget to leave the penny in the tip jar after you’ve paid.

If you are standing in a line and you are going to get your food at the end of it, chances are you aren’t having a gourmet meal. That being said this is some pretty good, hearty, quick on-the-run Chinese food. The portions are huge so two people can probably share a plate.
