the place is good ! food is good ! big sizes if you ordering full size 2 people can be full don’t be silly getting another plate ! waist of $$! anyways everything 5 star but i am giving them 1 star bc they do cheat on the bill !! plz plz read your tap or bill carefully they have a habbit of not giving you a original bill but they give u a «2nd copy«which is not clear of what they right and the amounts (i hope i am clear) and especially when you order a «full stake«they charge double price be alert !! plus they add tip for party 6 and over so you don’t have to add anything that i don’t like as well anyways my point is look at your bill u be surprised from a negative side i mean and ask for original recite! not a copy

I ate there for the first time recently I have been in this neighborhood forever I went there when it was Chelsea House I sang have a relaxing dinner Why is there a TV in the dining room? Is Rhoda sports bar? There was s game on TV and people were cheering on their team and making comments Even the waiters stopped to watch Really a low class thing Food was good, but expensive and because of the TV thing won’t be back Not the kind of dining experience I expect from a nice restaurant

Came here for Easter dinner with my family. Waited a while to be seated even tho we had reservations. The tables are so close together that the waiters and busboys kept banging into my chair constantly. It was a busy night and our waiter had a lot of tables to tend to so we kept having to flag him down every time we wanted more drinks. The food took forever to come out and it was ice cold. We ordered several appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The food was not the best considering the prices. My suggestion is if you plan on coming here don’t come on a holiday.

My family and I celebrated my godson’s 1st Birthday here. The party was held in their upstairs private room. The room is very spacious and easily fit our 9 tables with more than enough«elbow room». The dance floor and mini stage splits the room with tables on both sides. The dance floor came in handy for the kids to dance and the stage was useful for the entertainers to set up their things. The staff at Matteo’s are so nice! I went early to help my sister in law decorate and they were more than willing to assist us with the table decorations and balloons. Anything we needed. Food was family style. Started off with a salad, 3 different appetizers(baked clams, stuffed mushrooms and fried calamari), a pasta, and 3 main dishes(Chicken Matteo’s, Veal Marsala, and Matteo’s signature Shrimp Luciano over sauteed spinach). The food was good but I have had better. The salad was soggy and the shrimp felt over cooked. The Chicken Matteo’s was my favorite out of all of them… Chicken on the bone with sauteed peppers, onions, broccoli, sausage, potatoes and garlic. The only feedback I would give is not to serve it on the bone. It makes it difficult to eat. I got a wing piece and I did not feel it was appropriate to eat with my hands. Eating a chicken wing with a fork and knife is an acquired skill I have not yet mastered. The flavor on the chicken reminded me of my grandma’s oven roasted herb chicken. With the package my in laws selected, we had red and white wine on the table, soda and beer. Every time a bottle finished on our table, they immediately brought over a new bottle. My husband was drinking beer and each time he asked for another within seconds he had another cold beer. The staff was super attentive and extremely polite. I am a dessert lover! Matteo’s hand whipped Napoleon cake was out of this world!!! The cream was super light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness. You can taste it was fresh and home made. The pastry was super crispy and flaky. I tried to get another piece because I LOVED it so much but they ran out. The wait staff came around with cappuccinos, café americano and espresso(single shot or double shots). Matteo’s helped make my godson’s birthday party a huge success. We all had a great time. I would come back for dinner and their restaurant at give their food another chance because their staff and desserts were on point! Valet parking is an added bonus. Thank you Matteo’s!

I’ve been coming to Matteo’s for many years. I had not been here in some time so I was looking forward to going. My friend and I went to the bar first it was crowded but the bartenders had it totally under control. My friend and I got Martinis and the drinks were perfect. The Dining room smelled Amazing! All the tables were filled and it was a great ambiance. Right away a bus server brought warm bread, butter and then the waiter Frankie came up to get drink it Appetizer orders. You can get full or Half orders. We ordered warm Mozzarella with roasted peppers & Asparagus. I asked for lemon and it came right away and they were generous(nice so I did not have to ask for more) For our main course we got Cheese Ravioli with marinara sauce and a side of Basil. For dessert I ordered Teramasu cake. It was lovely and tasted home made. Mateos is a great place to go to if you are a larger party and take advantage of there Family Style or just a few and get half orders. The prices are so reasonable! Under $ 100 and Well worth it! The entire experience at Matteos is 5 Stars! The bathrooms were clean and the Food and service were Excellent!

Came here with a group of about twenty for a birthday and boy did we leave 15 pounds heavier. We were not able to sit until most of our party arrived which always annoyed me but whatever. We enjoyed chatting it up with a group of about ten of us by the bar until I guess they noticed that it was getting kind of crammed and sat us down. Once seated, the waiter took our drink orders and served us warm bread with butter. And then, the fold began to come out and boy were we all salivating! The baked clams were absolutely delicious. The sliced tomatoes with mozz was super fresh but there were more tomatoes than mozz, what’s up with that Matteo’s?! The pasta dishes were all very scrumptious although the penne alla vodka could’ve been cooked a tad bit longer. Stuffed shrimp is a must people! Place was quite packed, so I would suggest making reservations ahead of time. Will definitely be returning!

Went on Sunday 2÷7÷16 to celebrate My Aunts Birthday… Had reservations for 2:15 not a problem… Décor is minimal a bit dark… But why are there TV’S ONTHEWALLWITHBOWLINGON… Tried to order cocktails… No Frozen Daiquiri, No Mojitos, No Moscow Mule… and then we had to wait on the rum for a rum and coke… Then we ordered… BIG disappointment… Baked Clams burnt in a bland sauce… Stuffed mushrooms… no seasoning, Mussels in a white wine sauce again no seasoning… Three starts for the artichoke… Servive was so messy… they spilled the sauce all over the floor and tablecloth that they had to put a napkin over the mess… Dinner was reall]y good… but again messy service with pasta in small bread and butter plates… Nothing was served with the entrée… and the portions were not large for family style… Excellent Desert, no refills on coffee… Dinner for 5 was 435.00 with tip… Way overpriced …

Ok so I booked this place a month in advance for dinner after my daughters baptism. We came n was supposed to be 10 of us but because of the snow storm it turned out to be 5 of us. After waiting for about 10 minutes(restaurant only had one other table btw with people) we finally say down. Although our waiter was very nice no one explained the menu to us as they have half and full so didn’t really understand that. Started off with muscles in white wine sauce they were way too over cooked in which they turn rubbery, and calamari. The calamari was very good but some pieces has like plastic on it. For ur main course my daughter got ziti and broccoli with garlic, was ok for her, my sister got shrimp and asparagus in which she said was good. My friend got Matteos famous meatballs and sausage which was a tad bit over cooked or maybe reheated too many times and they try to put a bunch of sauce on it. The shrimp scampi omg for the price it was way too much rice which tasted so strange(not eaten) and 5 pieces of shrimp that was over cooked. And finally the chicken Francese was really good just disappointed for $ 28 it didn’t come with pasta just a chicken breast cut in half in lemon sauce. So all in all no coffee or desert bill came to $ 227 food was not worth the price and I would not recommend this place.

First time here, food was good atmosphere was nice. Warm mozzarella lacked a little something… dish a bit bland. My shrimp luciano, which clearly on the menu states«over spinach» came out with no spinach. When I asked the waiter about it he advised it didn’t actually come on spinach but the spinach was in the sauce… which it was not. Just should have advised they messed up and brought me spinach, kind of a stupid thing to try to cover up. Other dishes at table included veal and chicken parm, they were both enjoyed as well. Not sure I’d return, there are plenty of great Italian places in NY to try where I can get what I ordered and will be equally as good if not better.

I live 2 miles from this place; but constantly bypassing it. Until today when a friend suggested we go here since he is a regular. Place is old style Italian; And service is OLDSTYLEITALIAN as well — meaning they take their time; if you are in a rush — forget about this place. They want you to settle down, enjoy, relax, and take your time. Just like you would on a family dinner. We came late lunch so crowd is thinning; I can imagine this place getting loud when its packed. On to the food. We ordered calamari arrabbiata — very good — not salty and it was cooked to perfection; not hard as others would do their squid. 2 items we ordered that’s a special but not that day — they made it for us since my friend is a regular. — Fusilli Monostro — never had fusilli like this; it was Pasta Heaven. Texture was consistent and was the highlight of the meal. — Veal Bartolucci — tender is as tender does; this is how veal should be; not overtly overcooked. And the edges were crispy; go figure on how they did that. And not overwhelmed by the sauces and ingredients; balance all over and not Salty as other serves their veal. You are probably wondering on how i got the items correct — I asked the server to write down the 2 specials as I will not remember it. Did not have any dessert and coffee as we were full to our necks with food. I will definitely come back to this place with my people in tow. prices are fair — we had the family style dishes; if this was in the city; prices will double and service will not even come close.

My husband and I went there after not having gone for several years. We became fans. Not only was the service impeccable but the food was delicious. We had the calamari Arrabbiata, veal junior and shrimp alla Monica. No complaints here. We definitely plan on becoming regulars.

Always a great meal but currently a limited time lobster special that is delicious & should not be missed! Service was a little spotty today, absolutely no wait staff at all in the dining area for 10 minutes at a time. A little hard to fathom with so much staff. Great family style food, usually great wait service, & valet parking(free parking at the Capitol One parking lot on the corner). Recommend; Bolognese Sauce, & Cognac(same sauce with mushrooms) with pasta, Meunière Chilean Sea Bass with capers, Shrimp Parm, Anything Fra Diablo, Soft Shell Francese, & housemade Sangria

A great red sauce Italian restaurant. The calamari sautéed in red sauce was to die for. Try the stuff meatball special. It was outstanding. It’s different from the regular meatball that come pasts. These meatballs pall in comparison. The pastas are all delightful and taste homemade. I will be pack soon to this Queens find.

I have been going to Matteo’s for over 20 years. The food is authentic and the service is impeccable. Michael(mgmt) is a great guy who has always treated my family and I with the upmost respect and quality service. For anyone who had an off night, I would suggest you give them another shot and ask for Michael when you get there. He will make it right. Fortunately enough, I have never had a bad meal.

Just came from the cemetery with our family. We booked the dinner at Matteo’s In howard beach. They served us chopped up lettuce that was brown and it was chopped so small I felt like I was having a smoothie The waiters were hardly around. They served the chicken Sorrentino like one broccoli one sausage etc. there was lipstick on one of the glasses and they served a table with dessert without the coffee. They served our table with tablespoons in our tea. They over soaked our macaroni with sauce. We went to tell the waiter to serve the coffee that he was told already to do and we found him eating lunch at the bar. Done with Matteo’s

The first time I went I had the lobster ravioli. Wasn’t so bad, so I decided maybe I will go today which is my birthday and it will be better. No. I ordered the lobster scampi and it tasted so weird, had my mom and son try it and they both spit it out. Lost my appetite. That was a $ 56 dollar plate! I can go to Olive Garden and get more authentic Italian food there. Not happy.

I travel to this part of New York for work every few years and this is the second time I have been there. Service was slow the first time and the food was okay, so we should have known better, but we decided to try it again today(3÷30÷15) Food wise, the food looks good, but it lacks flavor. Two of us got a steak special, which was obviously a cheap cut of meat that was well dressed, definitely not worth the money. The portions are large for everything, maybe they think that makes up for the lack of flavor, I dont know. The rest of our party had different pastas, one was spaghetti, one was a seafood pasta and I dont recall the third. They said it looked really good but was really bland and the spaghetti pasta was not cooked all the way through. The service was stupidly slow, we had to ask to for more drinks. We took the time and between the time we got our food at the time someone came to check on us, it was 32 minutes. We had a large bill, and I will be honest, I left a small tip. Tax was $ 23 and I left $ 25 because the food was only so-so and the service was really slow. Dinner took two hours and 15 minutes from the time we walked in to the time we walked out, not necessary as the place was not at all busy. The $ 25 was not good enough for the server, Jimmy, who chased me down as I was trying to get in a taxi and asked if I was dissatisfied. I told him that we were, the food was bland and an entire meal for 6 people took 2 hours and 15 minutes and that is only because we asked the check. He argued with me and told me a sob story about how he had to split the tip with people and they wouldn’t buy it. I unfortunately, am not very good with conformation, so I gave him double the tax and jumped in the cab and bailed. We discussed that we wont be returning after the behavior. If you go there, be prepared for food that looks good, but tastes lack luster, be prepared for friendly servers who are very, very slow, and be prepared for them to expect you to over tip.

Wowza, I’ve lived 20 minutes from this gem and I’ve never been here well that changed after this weekend. We arrived around 7 and sat immediately. It was packed very much family style and several large tables. Great ambiance, people talking loudly– with their hands and lots of laughter. I’ll admit my parents are home buddies and rarely leave the 5 towns to go out to dinner. Maybe now I can convince my dad to pick up the tab here for special occasions. Wine– started with a bottle of the house red. It wasn’t too sweet but being that’s it’s winter I’ll pick a red over a white any day. Apps: chopped house salad and full baked clams. The salad was large enough for 3 people, the runner tosses it and serves you. I liked the hands on table service.(Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, black and green olives, red onion and red peppers). Escarole with beans– very tasty. The baked clams(full order 12 clams) were chunky for little necks, baked perfectly and not too burnt on top– just how I like it. The best was the dipping sauce it wasn’t overpowering with garlic. Entrée: Veal Francese — I’m sorry baby cow. But you were delectable. Soft– lightly breaded, melt in your mouth good. The large was 3 big filets. Screw leftovers, I was famished. Service: we had a younger waiter, very presentable and courteous. Everything was on point, we weren’t rushed and the food was timed perfectly. We finished our meal and was offered 2 drinks on the house. Even though the wine kicked in and I had rosy cheeks. Wine + chocolate = a very happy girl. The chocolate martini I had tasted like chocolate milk. The liquor was hidden. If we were staying longer I would’ve had two more. All and all great service, company and food. You were there and felt like family. Only thing I would do it remove the TVs from the dining area. You’re there to converse and step away from technology. Seemed more appropriate for the bar.

The absolute BEST baked clams that I’ve ever had at a restaurant period! The linguine alla marechiara were absolutely phenominal and my girlfriends pork medalins were the juiciest and largest we have ever eaten. The service was also on point.

Tonight my boyfriend and I decided to stay local and had dinner at Matteo’s. My ketel one martini was made exactly as I asked. We had the calamari and clams as appetizers, both were generous portions and both were delicious. For dinner I had the grilled shrimp over vegetables. My boyfriend had the pasta with meatballs. Everything was great. Desert was cappuccinos and Italian cheese cake. The cheese cake had a nice lemon zest and was made perfect. All in all a very nice dinner.
