Spearman’s is one of my favorite places to eat breakfast in this area. My favorite thing to get is either their hot cakes or the eggs/meat/toast/home fries special at breakfast. Their prices are pretty cheap compared to other places like bob Evans and all their stuff is homemade. Ladies room is always clean when I’ve been there too. Parking and space is a little sparse but that just means get there a little early. Wait staff is very friendly and you get as many coffee refills as you want. This is a great place for homemade comfort food.

Came here on a recommendation from someone who knows the area well. We were in town at the Apple Valley Resort and looking for good food! Spearmans will not disappoint. It’s home cooked food with real butter, although the salad menu was very extensive if you want to watch your calories or fat. We chose to indulge in creamy chicken and biscuits with mpg(mashed potatoes with gravy) and the Wisconsin cheese soup was fantastic! The little one had chicken tenders and curly fries and he cleaned his plate too.

Nice small diner. Saturday brunch was awesome! Our family has decided this will be our new place to come for Saturday breakfast. The service was great. We had a short wait to be seated, but it was well worth it.

Came for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Service was friendly and quick, and the food was good. The side of bacon was a bit on the skimpy side, but for the price I really can’t complain.

I think my friends and I first visited Spearman’s a few years ago on a Sunday morning after a long night out drinking. We had heard good things about their«grandma» type food and decided to try it out. We’ve been back dozens of times since then. The women who serve are friendly and always accommodating to whatever absurd extra-sides order we come up with. This place isn’t very big, so there is sometimes a wait, but even on a Sunday post-church rush I’ve never had to wait more than 15 minutes. Spearman’s is a place that definitely has it’s regulars, but will always be inviting to the random new patrons who wander in. The menu changes, with each day having set specials in addition to their everyday staples. My favorite item on the menu is their Golden Chicken. It’s 3 pieces of fried chicken, served with whatever sides you choose. I always get it with mashed potatoes and brown gravy, plus whatever vegetable they have that day, PLUS a Sunday salad(a mixture of fruit, jello and either cool-whip or marshmallow crème… I don’t know for sure but it’s amazing). My friends and I always want pie, but also always gorge ourselves on our meals(the portion sizes here are more than generous) so we order our dessert to go and usually head to the nearby waterfall or Apple Valley Lake to enjoy them outside. They also sell whole pies and cakes… either whatever they have in that day, or you can special-order ahead of time. Spearman’s accepts credit cards(I don’t think AmEx), but let whoever is checking you out that you want to add a tip before you hand over your card, as they add it in to their register. there is not an option to add a tip on the credit card slip like at most restaurants. The charge will show up on your statement as Marathon gas(remember, like other reviewers have said, this restaurant is connected to a gas station).I mention that because several times I’ve been checking my CC statements and have seen a random 12 or 15 dollar charge show up from Marathon and had to think back to what that could be from :) All in all, if you’re in the Knox County area, especially anywhere East of Mount Vernon, make sure to stop in to Spearman’s…unless it’s Fair Week, they take vacation and join the rest of the county population at the fairgrounds… and make sure you grab some pie on your way out the door.

A resturant in a gas station? Too neat. But even better… the food choices are plentiful and delicious. But buyer beware, there’s enough for 2. Then, if you are a dessert person, they will have the pie you are looking for. Service was fast and friendly.

Best place and best prices in the area for good comfort food. I almost don’t want to review this place because word is getting around and since it’s so small we have had to wait during peak hours. It’s one of the few places in the area where your coffee is free during breakfast hours. They have senior discounts. The food is very good and you get good portions. Very delicious home made pies. It is a short drive from Mt. Vernon but a scenic drive and worth the trip.
