My boyfriend, our dog and I had a great time canoeing with Howardsville Canoe Livery. There aren’t many canoe outfitters in the area that allows dogs. We specifically picked this company because they do and we were going to be camping with our pup. We called the day before and they were able to add us to the shuttle schedule for the next morning. Jim, who runs the business, was so friendly we chatted on the phone for a few minutes and talked the entire shuttle ride up the river. The crew was helpful with getting our canoe in the water and they were happy to accommodate us bringing our dog along. When we finished canoeing they happened to be at the ramp when we landed(this isn’t usually the case since there are different lengths of trips you can do so everyone tends to arrive at different times throughout the day) and they helped us get our canoe up from the water. We were camping nearby and Jim said we could camp on his property by the river if we ever wanted to on a future trip. We got back to our campground that night to a group of 20 teenage girls on the site next to us and several groups of teenage boys riding around on golf carts(one«pimped out» with neon lights and a speaker system blasting country music) so we called Jim up and asked if we could come done for one night to end our weekend and he said absolutely. We set up camp on his property next to the river and had a wonderful night of quiet relaxation that we were looking for. I can’t say enough about how nice, friendly and helpful Jim and all the guys at Howardsville Canoe Livery were. We’ll never go anywhere else near Charlottesville.
