I went here last week as I was out that way for an appointment. I have eaten here before and wasn’t crazy about it, but thought I’d give it another try. I agree with another review that said the pulled pork was like mush. It’s pretty tasty, but a big glob of mush. Also, they were out of sweet potato mash at 5:00! How is that possible? That’s probably one of the more popular sides. So I ate half of the food that evening and then saved the rest for later. When I went to eat the other half over the weekend, I found a Japanese beetle in my pulled pork! It was hidden because of the other charred pieces of meat that you expect to see with any bbq. I almost put a chunk of the pulled pork with the beetle in my mouth! Ugh. I will never go here again. I will drive down the street to one of the other places before going here!

I visited the Hog Wild BBQ trailer and ordered a pulled pork sandwich with traditional bbq sauce and a side of mac & cheese for $ 12. The pulled pork had an awful flavor and aroma that made it completely inedible. The mac & cheese was edible but bland. Service was very slow. Not a great experience overall.

I really want to like this place, because there aren’t that many great BBQ places around. I’ve eaten at both this Michigan Ave location along with their food trailer parked in front of the dry cleaner’s on Grand River in Howell. In all cases, the food was just okay. If I had to rate the two of them, the trailer is probably a better choice. I agree with other reviewers though — it’s overpriced for the quality of food that you get. The options are somewhat limited and the sides are just okay. The ribs are probably the best thing I’ve had from them, but they were just okay, too. The last time I picked up food from them, they served me beef brisket chopped into small, ¼ to 3/8″ pieces. As soon as I opened the container I immediately suspected that they did that because they hadn’t cooked the brisket long enough. When I started eating it, I knew that was the case — it was cooked to temperature but not tender at all; it was tough and rubbery, a clear sign that it had not cooked long enough to break down the connective tissues in the meat. That, and little meat cubes completely take away from any texture the brisket should have. I’ve also had the pulled pork on multiple occasions — It was so overcooked both times that there was no defined texture to the meat puddle I was eating — way off from what good pulled pork should be. It was disappointing to say the least. Finally, in every instance of picking up food in the drive through, I’ve asked«How are you doing?» to the person taking my order. Their responses are always unbelievably negative. «It’s been a rough one» and«Not good.» are the types of responses I’ve received, from different servers I might add. Look, I understand this is a BBQ joint and don’t expect four star service by any means, but you are in customer service and I don’t really want a poor attitude when I come to pay you to eat your food.

We ordered the sampler platter and were not impressed. The beef brisket was like beef jerky soaked in BBQ sauce. The chicken tasted like it was feom last week. The rib tips were burnt to a crisp and lacked flavor. The pulled pork was all fat and the little bit of meat that was in it was gross. The mac and cheese tasted lkke fish, and there were potatoe skins in the mac and cheese.

Part One of my «Bass, Brew &BBQ series», ;) … Had a ½ slab rib dinner w/two sides during the Bass, Brew &BBQ/Bassmaster’s Elite shindig at LSC Metropark this past weekend … didn’t really care much about the bass fishing(seems like a lot of fuss for fish you ain’t gonna’ eat, IMO), though the displays were cool, some swag, some free drink samples, food, et … I thought the ribs were pretty good, you have to take into consideration the logistics behind putting out a good plate of bbq under these circumstances. When I’m eating bbq, it’s all about taste, texture & appearance. Taste — very good, meat not overpowered by sauce/rub. Texture — meat fell/pulled off, leaving a clean bone at the point you bite, not the entire bone at once, me likkee, :). Appearance — looked good, like it should, :) . Sides were o.k., ordered the beans & yams. Yams appropriately sweetened & the beans were«best in show» for that particular event/weekend. The only complaint could maybe be portion size, more so the beans than the yams, in that I was kind of like, «huh?». Looked like a couple burnt ends may have accidentally found their way into my take-out box, so I’m not gonna’ sweat it. Hope to see you guys at next year’s event!

Pulled off 96 to try the truck. It’s food… Edible food. But that’s about it. My husband actually said well bbq just gets better from here. Sweet potatoes too sweet — yeck. Collards too salty. Half chicken was weirdly soggy(??!). Regular bbq sauce was pretty much from a bottle and the sweet and spicy was strangely Asian(husband said sweet and sour from McDonald’s. But really … This is bbq. It should be good. Simple. Decent quality. This was not that … Should have just gone to Taco Bell and saved $ 15.

Hog Wild was at Ribfest in Royal Oak, I was not impressed. They have good potential, especially with the tasty rub and sauces they have. But their service was extremely slow and oh, the travesty, their ribs were cooked WAY too quickly. Tough as a board! I realized after waiting in line for an hour and gnawing on their rubbery ribs that the reason the line was so long was that everybody had no other choice. There were only two caterers there, and they were going to squeeze every last dime out of the captive customers by flash-grilling ribs to make up for their lack of preparation. First rule of barbeque: LOWANDSLOW!

I wish you could give this place a zero star it’s horrible. I’m very upset I wasted my money on their food. No one should eat here.

Got the sampler platter with my wife at the location in south Lyon(witches hat). Could not be more disappointed. I get it BBQ is not the cheapest, that’s totally fine with me if its good! All the meats we got were super fatty and very tough and the mac and cheese was cold. Will never get food from here again. Gives the whole chain a bad name.

Friendly staff, quality meat. They’ll allow you to sample stuff before you buy. I’d definitely go back.

I have been really excited to try some really good BBQ and have seen signs for this place around town(in Howell and Brighton areas). Their mobile trailer has been seen in Brighton and I saw one in Howell and did not realize it was the same one until I stumbled upon an actual storefront now located at this address. Small drive-up place with walk-in service. The people that work here are nice and friendly and eager to help. I drove through one day and tried the Georgia Hound Dog because I was looking for something small that I could eat while driving… it fit the bill. A hot dog with slaw, pulled pork and I’m not sure what else was on there but, I would highly recommend! Figuring they had great BBQ, I decided to get some for dinner one night. We ordered a variety of items including, chicken, ribs and pulled pork with sides of sweet potatoes and slaw. First off, the meats were all pretty dry(not marinated enough… not slow roasted?) with the exception of the pulled pork which was really more like a mush in a side cup. All of the food was really sweet and a bit overwhelming that way to the tastebuds. When I dream of bbq(yes, I dream of good food) I think of juicy, fall off the bone meats… a little spicy. not too sweet and seasoned just right. This was nowhere near that. Also, I am very sensitive to gas… if there is gas used on heating the foods I can usually sense it in my food and it almost overpowers the taste. This food had a hint of that gas flavor and it added to ruining the meal for me.
