Family operated candy shop specializing in handmade chocolates on-​site. The wide selection of delicious and affordable confections make perfect gifts or a special treat for someone of any age. I like to get a custom-​made selection box so the recipient is extra impressed. They even make a wide selection of sugar-​free chocolates.

Vasilow’s is a hidden gem in Hudson. The chocolate-​dipped ginger is made with grated ginger and is a subtle blend of sweet and spicy. The peanut butter cups are smooth and creamy. The pumpkin fudge is positively addictive. For something unusual, try the salty licorice. Every time I visit the store, I pick up a couple of chocolate lollipops for my nieces and a bag of the milk and dark chocolate breakaways to share with friends and family in NYC. I even ship a gift box of Vasilow’s chocolate to my mother-​in-​law in Florida every Christmas. Locavores take note: This chocolate is made locally right in the store.

No matter what season or holiday is approaching, this is a long-​time institution in the Hudson Valley. Their products are excellent and the use of European chocolate shows in the results. Their special candy bar creations are wonderful. Their cherry truffles are killer. The prices are amazingly low compared to other shops. Excellent toffee and cinnamon hard candy. Very classy packaging that makes Vasilow’s a great gift.

Which suggests that tours are a possibility. When I asked the clerk, she looked and sounded confused by the idea. She went so far as to say they didn’t do tours at all.
This issue aside, the store was quaint, but unremarkable. I’ve been to a good deal of chocolate makers stores and this wasn’t the best. True, they have good product here, but nothing I found remarkable or truly delicious looking.

When I spend a day in Hudson, I like to stop here for something delicious to take home with me. It’s easy to miss since it’s kind of on the outskirts of Warren Street, but its definitely worth making a stop for. Their chocolates are delicious and they have a lot to choose from.
