I do so miss the Bernina shop that was in the Champions area. Truly I do. Since they closed several years ago, the Bernina It’s a Stitch location in Humble is my closest location if I want supplies for my Bernina machine or if my machine needs servicing. Not that driving roughly 18 miles one way is close, mind you. But it’s my only option at this point. So when I get here, I at least expect to be treated with a smidgen of courtesy. I’ve had my machine serviced here, and that definitely is a shout out worthy of 5 stars. But everything else I’ve encountered? I’m questioning it, and thus the update and reduction of stars. Multiple times I’ve been here to purchase thread that wouldn’t choke my machine. Multiple times I’ve been conned into buying a different kind of thread for a project I was working on, only to have me mumble obscenities and nearly break out in tears because the thread was breaking repetitively or my machine just didn’t like it and was nearly seizing. And each time I’d come back for the thread I knew would work, I’d be given a look down a pretentious, snooty nose with the assumption that I was an absolute idiot. Sorry, ladies. Sorry that I don’t own a $ 10,000 machine. Sorry that my lowly zig-zag Bernina that’s 30 years old is still working like a charm and I don’t need one of your electronic gadgets. Sorry that I don’t quilt with all of the gusto that you do. Sorry that I sew like my Nana and Grandma did, but you know — that’s what true quilts are all about. Get your panties out of a twist and sew yourself some new ones with those new-fangled machines you’ve got on your floor. Perhaps then you’ll see that when a customer comes in, we’re all sewers just like you, and that we all want to do the best with what we have and sewing is not for SHOW, it’s from the heart. Sorry I interrupted your ostentatious, stitching, re-organizing day when I came in. And sorry that I asked a few questions that you seemed to not want to answer. Perhaps I need to find another place for my Bernina supplies. There are other places in town — and probably just as FAR as you.

I would give this place five stars because the sewing machine service is outstanding absolutely outstanding. I gave it 3 stars for the fabric selection. I remember this place when it was an actually sewing machine shop and a fabric store. now there’s just a bunch of pre-cuts on the wall and it’s not a fabric stor. Buy your machine there because the service phenomenal the repair services phenomenal. just go somewhere else for classes and go somewhere else for your fabric it’s just not a fabric store anymore. Things change in business, so i am sure there must have been a good reason for the change, it just wasnt a good change for quilters. You will not find a better shop in Houston to buy a Bernina sewing machine, they know their machines and their service department also knows their machines.

It’s hard to find great customer service these days, so I just wanted to give It’s a Stitch a shout for being wonderful in that department. Linda particularly has been wonderful. Thanks for reminding me there is still great service out there!

This used to be a fabric store and a Bernina dealership. Now it’s just a Bernina dealership with some precuts on the back wall. A gorgeous selection of fabric has been replaced with a few handpicked collections — one or two Christmas, the obligatory nursery print, the quilt themed print, etc. Gone are the brightly colored bolts that made the drive through traffic worthwhile. Perhaps its true that the fabrics on the wall would take up more space in bolt form, and it just looks like there isn’t any fabric, but really? The selection is just gone. I can usually drop over a hundred dollars when I walk into a fabric store, but I had trouble finding much to buy when I was there last week. It is rumored to be a very good Bernina dealership. But it’s not worth the travel for the fabric. Maybe I’m wrong. Perhaps this is some fabulously new soon to be successful quilt store model(gosh, I hope not). I just don’t see the reason to make the trip. My fabric budget will likely be going elsewhere, so I hope the hordes they are hoping to attract materialize, I don’t wish them out of business, just liked the selection they used to have. My suspicion is this was just an easy way to get rid of all the employees that used to stand around and gossip. There’s not much worth leaving the house for in Texas these days. Certainly not the people, and definitely not this fabric store.
