Lately I must be on the mood of eating Hawaiian food. On the recent business trip to Houston, we discovered Hula Mamas as recommended restaurant by Unilocal that’s close to IAH airport. Thus, my coworker and I decided to visit Hula Mamas for some delicious Hawaiian food. It’d be my coworker’s first time to eat Hawaiian food. My coworker got a plate of 3 type of meat. The highlight was definitely the kalua pork that has the right smoky taste. I was not sure whether they do bury the pork under the ground but the flavor profile was there. As I was very hungry, I decided to get loco moco with spam fried rice. Fortunately, knowing that I was in Texas, I ordered the small portion — which arrived as large meat patty with fried egg and gravy. If I had ordered the large portion, I may have gained 5 lbs that night. Everything was very tasty. Like any restaurants, there are always room for improvement. The sushi roll uses fresh fish but the rice was very mushy. Our server was probably new and she was not very professional in the borderline of being impolite. After knowing that we found the restaurant from Unilocal, she made a comment that«ahhh you guys must be the mean person who wrote bad Unilocal review». Which was very unfortunate since I believe the restaurant is one of the most unique restaurants around IAH airport. Subtracting the waitress’ attitude and subtracting the sushi that is not sushi, I would come back to this mom-and-pop joint.

THEMOSTAUTHENTICPOLYNESIANRESTAURANTINTOWN!!! Finally got to eat here and we pigged out and I don’t feel a little bit remorseful. Ambience is FANTASTIC. Reyna(waitress) is awesome. The owners came out and we had a wonderful time chit chatting. The food OMG soooooooooooo good. We are officially regulars!

I’m a little disappointed that this place isn’t busier because the food is so delicious! I arrived at 7:30PM on a Friday night and I was shocked at how empty the restaurant was. When I say empty, I mean I was the only table there for awhile. I asked the servers if the restaurant is usually this empty and they replied with«it’s a Friday so it’s a hit or miss.» That’s disappointing since this a neat little place with delicious food. The hours for this place are similar to a sushi restaurant since they open for lunch and then close for an hour to prep for dinner. So don’t come between 3 – 4 pm on weekdays, 3 – 6 pm on Saturdays, and don’t come at all on Sundays because they’re closed all day! They have a Hawaiian show on Saturday nights to offer some fun entertainment during your dinner. Service: The servers were nice and attentive, which I expected since I was the only one there. They were quick to accommodate to whatever I needed so no issues here. Food: Spam masubi(5⁄5) — Each order comes with 2 spam masubis, either regular or fried, cut into halves, but I wanted to try both so I ordered for 1 masubi to be fried and the other to be regular. I am a big fan of spam masubi and these did not disappoint! They were big and pretty filling. I like how they sprinkled seaweed flakes on top of the rice. I really like the taste of seaweed so this was a plus for me. Any 3 combo BBQ(4⁄5) — I opted for the chicken katsu, beef teriyaki, and short ribs for my entrée. Portion size was very generous(enough to last me another meal). Chicken katsu could have been fried just a bit longer to make the breading more crispy and they could serve a better katsu sauce that doesn’t taste so similar to ketchup, but those are minor things. Beef and short ribs were juicy and very tasty! My only issue with this plate is that the entrees don’t come with any sides. When I asked why this was the case, the server replied with«Well people don’t really like what we give them so we give them the option to choose what sides they want.» I would be perfectly okay with this IF I didn’t have to pay for each side. $ 1 for a side of white rice? The entrees should at least come with white rice… I hope they change this policy. I would definitely return to Hula Mamas if I am ever in the area. Just writing this review has made me crave their BBQ… Yum.

Very friendly atmosphere the owner came and introduced himself. I thought I would never get to try ahi poke but I finally did and it was amazing the chicken was just out of this world. I didn’t want it to end… I’m already trying to go back, I just want everybody to know if you have not tried Hawaiian food this is the place to go. Try the salmon poke

Having my birthday dinner here tonight. Food as usual is very delicious! I ordered the any 3 combo bbq; teri beef, chicken katsu and short ribs(other choices bbq chicken, kalua pork). I chose island Mac as my side. My husband ordered the Lau Lau & Kahlua Pork with steamed rice and kimchi. Kids ordered the same dish, Da Big Island(2 fried shrimp, short ribs & bbq chicken). One ordered with a side of steamed rice, the other seasoned french fries. All were good! Hawaiian music played in the background. Service was quick.

Went back for the dinner show last night. Once again, the staff was very welcoming and attentive. The food was delicious and plentiful. They even offered to bring second helpings, but we were all too full. We sat up front — the show was fantastic! They are family friendly, and it looked like the children that were there had fun too. Definitely worth the money and the drive across town.

Family restaurant with cute décor. I only picked up food, but I would love to sit down for the Polynesian floor show! It’s too bad they don’t open on Sundays when I don’t have work :( Da Big Island plate:(fried shrimp, kalbi beef, chicken) I liked it but my mom said it was too sweet Volcano Rice: just enough spice! Ahi Poke: too salty for me, personally, but I’ve never had poke before either Overall: I would go again and try something new. I would recommend to those who like to explore new culture and food!

I believe that the price we get for the food is way much cheaper than the Hawaiian food up here. As a island boy myself this restaurant has satisfied my taste buds with their amazing menu they have to offer. The food is always hot and ready and make me feel just as if I was at home with their waitress hospitality and friendly conversation.

Definitely recommend this to family, friends or anyone looking for a different experience. I ordered a combination plate with Bbq chicken and kobi ribs and Mac salad. It reminded me of real Hawaiian food! Was very delicious. Also, staff was genuinely present an accommodating. The facility is very neat and well decorated. They even have luau shows on Saturdays.

AMAZING experience!!! I was looking for a Hawaiian place around Houston and found Hula Mamas. I booked a reservation for their Saturday night luau show and it was so much better than I was expecting. Very great entertainment and cute dances complete with a jaw dropping fire spinning show. The owner was playing the guitar and meeting everyone at their tables when he wasn’t on stage. Very friendly and doing a great job creating an atmosphere that really takes you on a 3 hour vacation. Food was super tasty and the drinks were great as well. I had the painkiller and I’d recommend it. All in all, everything was fantastic and definitely a place I’ll be back to.

This place is a gem that seems to have sprouted out of nowhere. The food is simply amazing(more on that in a second), the staff is friendly and very attentive, and the atmosphere is wonderful. Back to the food: this is the real deal. Do yourself a favor and check out their loco moco if you’re new to Hawaiian food; you won’t regret it. Their sushi is also fantastic, along with their mahi mahi. I intend to raid the rest of their menu and so far I’ve been nothing but delighted. Regarding the atmosphere: they have a stage and will occasionally play music, sing, and even dance. I caught some live music for lunch and felt it greatly enhanced my experience. Also worth noting is that they host a luau dinner event every Saturday from 6−9pm. I haven’t actually been to one yet but I definitely intend to. I could keep going but I think I’ve made my point. I wanted to do more than just give this place 5 stars and write two words… This place deserves better! Do yourself a favor and check out this hidden gem before it blows up… You won’t regret it. PS — Yes, it has free wifi… you’re welcome. PSS — Yes, their Mai Tais are as good as the ones I’ve had in Hawaii.

Love, love, LOVE this place. Friendly staff, delicious food… I haven’t yet been to the luau on Saturday’s but I’m looking forward to when I do! Try the barbecue chicken and kalua pork. If you ever need catering ask about their Huli Huli Chicken. I also had a virgin Mai Tai and it was delicious and beautiful(see photos). I definitely recommend this restaurant and will come back!

I came during lunch and it was very slow with a couple of other customers. I ordered Da Big Island platter which the waitress indicates as having a little of everything. It comes with 2 tiny little fried shrimp, about 4 pieces of short rib, and a big pile of teriyaki chicken, along with 2 sides: I chose volcano(spicy) rice, and mac salad. This was a lot of food and decently priced at $ 8.99. I enjoyed everything on the plate, especially the short ribs and mac salad, even though the ribs were cold they still had good flavor. I will definitely be back for their happy hour, to try their other menu items like sushi and dessert, and maybe even see their show on the weekend.

They’ve added new items to their menu. Came back with my coworkers for lunch. We ordered a variety of stuff(pulehu steak, mochiko chicken, kalua pork and cabbage, sam’s jumbo shrimp, taro fries, and lumpia) because we wanted to try the new items. Pulehu steak: overcooked but still a lil tender, lacked flavor by itself so use the dipping sauce; 2 out of 5 Mochiko chicken: tender/juicy, slightly sweet, could use more flavor; 3 out of 5 Sam’s jumbo shrimp: OMG, these were delicious! So delicious that we ordered another plate. It’s everything fried shrimp should be, large, crunchy exterior with a juicy interior. There was also lumps of imitation crab meat/mayo mix on top; 5 out of 5 Taro fries: these should really be renamed to taro chips because that’s what they are, crunchy taro chips. Very tasty but they’re not fries; 5 out of 5 Lumpia: different from the lumpias I’ve tried but it’s still good. Lumpias are normally made with ground pork but I think theirs are made with ground beef; 5 out of 5 I really wish the lighting was better. During the day, they use the natural light that comes in through the windows which are tinted so it’s still kinda dark inside.

When people comment«this doesn’t compare to food in Hawaii» well duh. You’re not in Hawaii, you’re in Texas. Anyways, this is the closes Hawaiian food I can get my hands on in Houston(besides«Hawaiian Grill» at the mall) so this will suffice. It’s not bad anyways I love the quality and the atmosphere here feels like Hawaiian hospitality. I have yet to go during dinner to watch their show but the food here is awesome. I love their chicken katsu and their Ahi Poke. Definitely will be back :)

I can’t find any Hawaiian Loco(authentic) food around Humble. I’m so happy to get loco plate at there any time! MAHALO :)

I was super bummed when I moved to the Humble area to find out that the original Hula Mama’s closed down, but then I got super happy when they reopened to an actual restaurant space and at a better location(not deep in FM1960 haha), it’s off the 59 freeway. Having had my share of Hawaiian food, my taste buds agrees that this place does it right. 4⁄5 = Ahi poke — Good poke but not the best(tasted better ones in Hawaii) 5⁄5 = My favorite spam masubi — You get 2 Spam masubi for $ 3.99, such a great deal! It didn’t fall apart so easily when eating. They are generous with their spam pieces and the right touch of sauce. 3⁄5 = Teriyaki chicken plate + with a scoop of white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad 3⁄5 = Chicken katsu + with a scoop of white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad They have friendly service, they’re accommodating and make an effort to check up on you(not in a hovering kind of way). The cooks and servers are islanders so they have a cool, chill and friendly attitude. The place is definitely bigger than their last place, but doesn’t compromise on their Hawaiian/island feel. I plan on visiting again to experience their luau dinner and show.
