This ranks as one of the worst experiences of my life. If you find this ‘deal’ on living social DON’T TAKEIT! The place is filthy, there is no onsite spa, and the exercise ‘classes’ are someone coming in from ‘somewhere’ & everyone must join in together. The pool area is disgusting, the ‘exercise equipment ’ ancient and in disrepair. The staff are odd and the chef is by far not gourmet. No evidence of any nutritionist or dietitian or health department certificates. They have a dog which they keep in the kitchen. The bedding smells and the buildings are falling down. When we pulled up we thought we were in the wrong place as the sign does not say ‘hunter mountain hotel and spa ’ but something completely different. The website link in the Living Social ad takes you to something called Vatra Spa which describes it in glowing terms. There is no vatra spa there. I FILED A COMPLAINTWITHTHENYATTORNEYGENERAL’S OFFICE against the owners & Living Social as both refused to refund our money.

I booked this for my husband birthday. When we asked about the fitness classes, they just said that there were no classes because they did not have a trainer. The facility is not setup to motivate people to exercise. The bed was done within minutes of us stepping out for breakfast but proper cleaning was not. The property is not rustic, it is old and outdated. The employees were nice but management lied to be this a wellness center. WEWILLNEVERCOMEBACK.

Please do not believe the reviews about this property that are super positive. It is horribly maintained. The bed linens smelled like they were not cleaned. I removed my pillow cases because they smelled so bad. My bathroom had peeling wallpaper and cracking contact paper on the shower(so gross). The exercise area has old and broken equipment. The food was poorly prepared. The staff told us that the owners could not afford the upkeep and it was so obvious. This place needs renovation or it will surely close shortly. It is a motel with a pool and sloppy… sloppily maintainance. I won’t go back. The grounds are beautiful because of the nature scenes but that is it.

I have been going to Vatra Spa since 2006 and just love it. A great place to get fit and lose weight with focused diet and exercise. Chef Chris manages to serve delicious, fresh food given the many dietary restrictions. I never felt hungry at all. The friendly staff, a variety of skilled trainers and simple, comfy accommodations add to the experience. My personal favorite is the spa area. Massages with Nancy are what keep you going after a day of exercise. Be sure to book spa appointments with Hallie early as her salt scrubs, variety of body wraps and facials are in high demand.

I recently stayed there for a whole week while we worked the annual Mountain Jam Festival. I couldn’t had been happier to be lodging at Mountain Valley Lodge & Spa. Beautiful location. Friendly staff. They allowed me to use their kitchen fridge to store my food that I need for my diet and allowed me to use their freezer for a friend’s beer to stay cool. Complimentary coffee and tea every day. The room was a 4 person room. Spacious with a balcony and clean. Nice décor. The shower made a funny whistling sound. But other than that, they came and cleaned every morning and always gave us extra towels. I also took advantage of their indoor pool and workout room. The machines are a little outdated but if you want to do some exercise — there’s no excuse not to. Grateful for a warm bed, shower and commodities after working long hours at the festival.

Went with my boyfriend on a groupon and we were expecting a spa and resort but the description and value was extremely overstated. The room was dirty, the beds too hard and given the filth we chose not to try the food. Also, there were no services, spa is not applicable. If we had paid $ 30 it would have set the proper expectation.

My friend and I went to Vatra(aka Hunter Mountain Spa) after a Living Social deal. I had read some reviews about the food being amazing and the rooms being horrible but that is only half right. The food here is past amazing!!! The chef Chris Dunn is fabulous! No meal was a disappointment. I’m not a soup person and he got me to really love soup. All of this veggies are fresh and you are rarely hungry. Even when the hunger kicks in, it’s almost time for lunch or dinner. He is also very friendly and like the other staff makes you feel right at home. The instuctuors are awesome as well! My friend and I took yoga, Zumba, weight training, walks, water aerobics, and cardio while here. The instructors also make you feel very comfortable and will offer suggestions and guidance for those who are unable to do a full workout or have limitations. During out stay we had Inka, Celeste, Nicole, and Kathy as trainers. All fantastic and very personable. We got here Wednesday at 6pm and left Saturday at 2pm. During this time we each lost 6 pounds. If you follow the program and workout you can lose the weight. Everyone is so supportive and I would definitely come back in the future! About the rooms, yes they are old but they aren’t dirty at all. We stayed on the second floor and have a loft style room. I thought it was really nice. You aren’t here to stay at a 5 star resort, it’s to lose weight! If you can make it here do it! You owe yourself a healthy life and this is a great jump start.
