Hambone is extremely hit and miss. If you go there on a slow mid week, you can tell they are giving you the food they prepared many hours earlier. I’ve also been there and received fresh amazing food. You just have to ask yourself, do you feel lucky?

Let me just start with… the people and service was just GREAT! Friendly, Warm, and Comfy people made the delicious BBQ Brisket sandwich so much tastier! I showed up 15 mins before closing, but was served well and with a smile! Let’s not forget the food! The brisket sandwich with the cole slaw is the real thang! Can’t wait til the beer start flowing at this place!

Good startup restaurant trying to do well. Nice upscale feel, but little character and soul. The food was good with big, nice appetizers but my entrée was smallish(brisket). The soul bowl was very good. I wish they would use whole wheat pasta in it though. Our server was horrible… probably not paid enough. We’ll be back soon.

Lowered my rating because upon return the service was almost nonexistent we had to signal for the waitress to take our order. Still did not find a side dish that I thought was excellent, so-so at best. The ribs that we had were again nothing to get excited about. Even though it’s a longer drive we will continue to get our ribs at Famous Dave’s.

Omg! If you’re a Rib person(like I am), then you’ll love this place! The best Ribs ever! Very tasty, Meaty and tender baby back ribs I had in a very long time! And not to mention the spicy and tangy sauce. Yum! My husband had the tri tip and his plate was cleaned out very quickly. I guess he liked the tri Tip. Lol Our server Tracy was very nice, which made our first time visit more enjoyable. The place is very quite which I think if they are able to sell bear and Crank up the music, it would be the spot. Anyways I’m definitely coming back! I would definitely recommend this place if you haven’t been.

Ordered the full rack of baby back ribs with 3 sides and subbed the rolls for cornbread to go. Total count was 14 ribs and the meat was very tender and excellent with their BBQ sauce. For sides I ordered green beans, mac n cheese and corn on the cob. The mac n cheese was good and I recommend it! Maybe I’m just not used to the style of green beans they serve here but I thought it was bland and too mushy. The corn on the cob was probably also one of the worst corn I’ve ever had. It had no flavor and had a lot of brown kernels on the ends. Overall, I thought the ribs were meaty, tender and not fatty at all but I was disappointed in the sides. I think once I discover which sides are worth ordering the meal would be a million times better. Update: Potato salad and mashed potatoes are better side options. I only like the tangy and medium BBQ sauce. The second rack of ribs were not as meaty but still good. They charge $ 2 extra if you double up on the Mac & Cheese for sides.

Ok so we don’t have a blood Bludso’s or JB’s here in Orange County yet but this might be the next best thing! We had tri tip and brisket, at the suggestion of our server Tim. We even got hooked up with a rib somehow ;-) We sampled all the sauces and Mac n cheese The food was really good… like don’t look away from your plate good. I can’t wait to go back! No beer yet but they are working on it, order your food to go and walk over to Albertsons and pick up the beer of your choice… grab your food and hit the road! You shouldn’t drink and drive anyways and designated driving ain’t no fun! Call it what it is… Best BBQ behind the Orange Curtain.

These people clearly know what they’re doing. Theres plenty of BBQ places popping up lately; some of them even actually know how to BBQ meat correctly. This place jus plain KNOWS barbecue. The pulled pork and tri-tip were smoked low and slow. Heck, the baby back ribs are so juicy they’re almost as good as competition level St Louis cut spare ribs Being from Nashville and Central Kentucky, I’m more of a vinegar-based BBQ sauce kind of guy. The sauces here are a Memphis/Kansas City style sweet tomato based BBQ sauces(what you’d normally think of as BBQ sauce) so they’re A little sweeter than i’m used to, but they are fantastic. The mild is excellent on the pulled pork. the spicy is the same sweet smoky sauce as the mild; but with hot pepper flakes. The tangy has a little more depth(maybe onion and a little garlic) and works great on the ribs. The baked macaroni is cheesy goodness and the green beans were cooked ’til limp with pieces of potato, black pepper, and pork(just the way they should be). Both of these southern standards are done just right. I haven’t had the other sides yet… But I’d bet 2 to 1 that they’re All good. I don’t know where the people that own this place are from… Kansas City? Texas? Louisiana? or Bellflower? … But it doesn’t matter, they sure can cook and they darn sure know how to make BBQ.

I’ve taken my kids and girlfriend here several times now. Great place for BBQ in the Huntington Beach /Fountain Valley area. Their ribs and brisket are great, the tri-tip is a little dry. Had the Sweet Potato fries and Mac & Cheese for sides, and they were excellent. There is a bit of a mix in décor between the trendy hot-spot and wannabe sports bar, but we prefer to sit out on the patio anyway.

Been here twice, so far, this Hambone’s isn’t quite as good as the one in Bellflower, but it seems to be moving in the right direction and getting better. Providing they don’t overcook the meats, the brisket is delicious, great char on the meat and tender interior. The pulled pork is tender and tasty. The baby backs are great, but a little over smoky and could have a better, more peppery exterior. The macaroni and cheese is rich and cheesy, the best I’ve had at any BBQ place and the onion rings are crunchy and good without being greasy. Tried the collard greens, first time I think I ever tried collard greens, and they were really good. The BBQ sauce is still way too sweet for me, all I’ve tried, I guess I have to bring my own next time. :) Really good place, though, a very welcome and much needed addition to this area.

Convenient location, plenty of parking. Quite short on ambience. Cavernous room which is bare, dark, uninviting. Looks like an unfinished sport’s bar. We were sat quickly and the service was good. Menu fairly varied. We had the baby back ribs, hopping john and onion rings. Ribs– good sized rack. These were almost big and meaty enough to be spare ribs. Nice rub, massive smoke ring. More tasty than most mass-market BBQ. Just«a touch» overcooked and over-smoked. A bit dry in spots, a bit acid/sharp at times– may be smoked in Mesquite? Very nice tangy BBQ sauce. The onion rings were a bit greasy, but large and tasty. The Hopping John was awful. Anemic rice and pinto beans bland, mushy and with an off odor. Can’t really put a finger on why it was. Fair to good.

The food here was amazingly yummy. I split the 3 meat combo and had the brisket, baby back ribs and pulled pork with a side of coleslaw and sweet potato fries and corn bread on top(because you can’t have bbq without cornbread!) I love it all! And there was so much food to choose from that I’ll have to come back to try it all. And the service was great! The waiter was really friendly and super prompt with with everything. And the atmosphere was super casual, lots of tv’s and a nice open patio area. Definitely a chill spot.

This was our first time coming in. Very casual and comfortable. The staff was all nice and friendly. The 3 meat choice meals are they way to go. Try a lot of each meat. For a Southern California BBQ joint they are doing it the RIGHT way!!! All the meat just melts in your mouth. Has so much flavor and is good with or without the BBQ sauce. Our sides were big and fresh. I can’t say enough how good the food was. Peach cobbler!!! Warm and so yummy. We were full after eating but still had to get it. Our lunches were enough food that I have dinner for the night as well. Pricing is very realistic. We will definitely be telling our friends and coming back for more. Great addition to our area!!! ***on a side note Phenomenal collard greens. Good to find a place that knows how to make them right!

Had a terrible experience at Hambone’s this afternoon. Arrived a bit after 12:00 p.m. Restaurant not very crowded. Was greeted by each of the three servers who said«be with you in a minute», but waited a couple of minutes before they seated us. The place was pretty empty — couldn’t they have just said«please take a seat wherever you like»? Had a pleasant waitress who took our drink orders. I asked for iced tea. There was no sugar or sweeteners on the table. I asked the waitress to please bring sugar and some lemon. She brought the lemon, and some packets of sugar-free sweeteners. I asked if I could have some sugar once again — and she said they didn’t have any packets but she’d get some from the kitchen and put it in a container for me. Really? We ordered our meal about 12:15 p.m. — and mind you, there were only three other groups of customers in the restaurant(none of whom had their food when we ordered). Several times our waitress came by to see if we were okay, letting us know our food would come soon. At 1:05 p.m. still no food. We let the waitress know we were leaving, left some cash for the drinks, and walked out of the restaurant. We will not be coming back here again.

Tried the food with a buddy, We consider ourselves amateur bbq experts, Ribs were good, not as caramelized as i would like. tri-tip was cooked right. corn bread and rolls were a lil disappointing, served with butter in the plastic packet. why not serve with whipped butter, or or a honey butter??? best thing i had was the banana pudding, tasted homemade. and most important thing they need for success, is service, We had a latina waitress, she wasnt energetic. brought our food out first, and plates to eat with last. seemed like she didnt have waitress experience. and décor is a lil plain, lots of bare walls, bar area kinda bland if they can fix som issues, they will be a decent place for bbq, until then its a one-hitter-quitter!

I am from the Southeast and I love barbecue, so I had to give this place a try. When you walk in, you’re greeted with the appetizing smell of smokey barbecue. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We were seated immediately and received our drinks within five minutes. We ordered pulled pork, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and potato salad(wished they served okra). The pulled pork is good and has a pleasant smokey taste. I like the spicy sauce the best, but I wish there were more sauce varieties. A Carolina mustard sauce or vinegar-based sauce in the list of options would rock my world! The collard greens are delicious; they are perfectly cooked and seasoned. I also tried the spicy collards that are flavored with jalapeños. They go well with the macaroni and cheese(get a little of both in one bite). The macaroni and cheese is reminiscent of my grandmother’s, although she used to call it «macaroni pie»(it’s baked in a milk and egg mixture and topped with a crust of cheddar cheese). Most barbecue places in SoCal either have a plastic-tasting Velveeta variety macaroni and cheese or macaroni salad(aka noodles and mayonnaise). Hambone’s macaroni and cheese was a pleasant surprise! There is some room for improvement with respect to the potato salad. It needed more spice, maybe some mustard, pickles and/or bacon? Also, the ice tea was cloudy and a little stale. Perhaps it was an off-day for those specific items? Nonetheless, I will be back.

I was excited to hear that there was going to be new BBQ Restaurant in Huntington Beach. My wife and I stopped in to give them a try… I have to say I had high hopes! I will say we stood there for 5 minutes before anyone greeted us. Then they couldn’t decide where they wanted to seat us… keep in mind they were not busy at all…¾’s of the restaurant was empty. We sat for about 13 minutes before someone came to our table to take our order… we ordered our drinks which took another 10 minutes before we got those — strawberry lemonade & «simple tea». That was insane! We finally ordered our food which took another 30 minutes. We ordered a brisket dinner… smallest portion ever for the price. Next was a two item meat… Tri tip and ribs… again very small portions for the price. The flavor of the sauce was excellent! Meat was very good also… not only does the food have to taste good but the service and atmosphere has to match. Now let’s talk about the sides: Mac n cheese was mushy, the hoppin’ John had no flavor at all. One of our drinks was so sweet my wife couldn’t even finish it. Our server came over only once to see how we were. Funny thing was when my credit card was put with the bill they came over quickly! Well, I’m sorry to say my personal experience here was terrible! I wish them the best… fix your service and the over all atmosphere that might help. Lastly, they had great music but the bass was so high I thought we were partying in a club. Ha… Did I forget to mention I received dinner roll from a package. You’d expect freshly baked biscuits for the prices they charged! Thanks for an unpleasant experience…
