Meadowlark Golf Course

Course was just ok. Moderately well maintained. Some muddy spots, some bare areas. HOWEVER… The pace of play was an atrocity. They had a «tournament» going on. The players were slow and unbelievably inconsiderate. Worst golf etiquette I have seen ever. Zero staff support to move these cretins along. Beginner golfers are more aware and considerate. Most courses have a marshal to monitor and hasten pace of play. None of that here.

Bad… So bad. (For the price) if the fees were about $ 18 with a cart than you’d be getting what you paid for. Anything over $ 40 I at least expect a fairway and not just shortly trimmed crab grass.

I’ve been playing at this course for probably over 40 years. I used to come here with my dad when I was a kid. There was an general aviation airport (Meadowlark Airport) in those days and we would watch the private planes fly over the fairway on their final approach.

The course itself was never much to brag about. Their are areas that are always wet and large grass less, muddy areas along with other issues that, from a golfers perspective, make this course a C– at best. But because its local and the bartender, (Rubin is the best thing about this place, 5 stars for him and the kitchen) makes the best bloody mary in O.C., I’ve continued to patronize this place.
I was at the course last Sunday, watching the games, having a bloody mary. Around 2pm I got the urge to play. I went to the starter and he said the next time available was about 2:30. I payed and was looking forward to getting out. I didnt ask or check the amount I payed because I know from the emails I get form them that after 2pm the twilight rate is $ 20.
Today I was looking at my banking statement for another issue and I noticed that I was charged $ 39. I checked online and it showed the rate for sunday at 2:30 was $ 20. So I called them up and spoke with Troy and asked what was up.
Right away he (Troy) got loud and rude. Saying the course rate was $ 35. If you book online it was $ 20. ‘But I was charged $ 39′, I said. I was trying to ask questions but he kept over talking me, getting louder with every question I was asking. When I pointed out that he wasnt answering my questions and was getting louder and louder. He laughed. ‘Go ahead and ask your question’ he said loudly and in a tone that was rude and demeaning.
I could tell that I was not going to get any answers, and that we had reached the limit of his intellect, by the antagonistic posture he was taking. Not only did he refuse to explain the amount I was charged but he kept laughing each time I tried to ask. Its frustrating to have to deal with such egocentric people.
If it is indeed the policy of the management to advertise one rate and then charge another, I would recommend to those reading to look elsewhere.
If you are looking for the best bloody mary and tasty eats, come visit Rubin in the bar. He’s the best thing this place has going.
I will endeavor to persevere.

I really enjoy this course. It’s unfortunate that when making a tee time they told us that there was not a tournament today. There was and this course played slower than ever. The 10^th hole was backed up over ½ hour with 12 people in front of us. 6 hours to play is not worth my time. Be honest and you won’t lose anymore players.

The restrooms are unsanitary here! There was blood in the women’s, and my husband said that the mens was just as bad as far as cleanliness goes.
Please, please, please bleach and disinfect that place!
I am contacting the Health Department. Please have a professional cleaning crew clean that bathroom, not your golf course employees.

Great food big portions cook is a lot of fun real friendly makes you feel like your at home always want to the extra for you really like this place.

The only reason I’m giving it 2 stars is because the grass was green.
Don’t wast your time here. I booked a tee time for a single on a weekday. I showed up an hour early to warm up so I was there 20 min early to check in like the rules state. When my tee time arrived I awaited patiently just outside the pro shop. After 30 min I went back inside and asked how backed up they are and they said they forgot to call my name. WTF! So they stuck me with the next 3 some. The dudes ended up being cool so no big deal. But I soon discovered they so over booked the course that each tee box had a 30 min wait time on average. Needless to say I didn’t get to finish so I requested a refund. It had been 4 hours already and we only finished the front 9. The young kid at the counter insisted on arguing with me telling me the reason they were backed up was because they had a tournament. Well don’t book so many tee times then. I asked him why the Marshall did not monitor the course better and he said they didn’t have one today! Another WTF! So you make me wait 30 minutes, forget to call me to the 1^st tee, have 30 minute waits at every hole, and have no Marshall on a tournament day. Way to go meadowlark. I didn’t get a refund and I was over arguing with the teenage kid working the counter. Meadowlark if your reading this get a proper Marshall and don’t overbook your course. I’m steering clear of here in the future. I wish it was better run as it across the street from my house.

Love this course! I live a solid 5 mins away which is a big plus. Staff is friendly, doesn’t get too backed up usually and the course is kept in pretty damn good shape. You’re looking at $ 50 round but in this area you can’t get a whole more for you money. Solid course.

I had a really great time here and the 18 hole course was great. But all that good feel went down the hole when cooks gave me an attitude. The food tasted really good too! But it’s so upsetting — I understand it’s busy and there’s only 2 people … But calm the heck down… I can wait for my food– you don’t have to make like my no cheese and no fries sound like it’s freakin rocket science and then give me a look and then speak Spanish with your buddy. Dude– it’s not that hard– do your job and quit making a big deal out of yourself.

This is a nice course. most of the green are like mushroom caps. There are wide open fairways with a little water on the back and number 3. What I found difficult was the guy behind the counter at the snack bar. He has a serious rude attitude that I will be sure to avoid in the future.

Wish I could put no stars. We travel down to visit our son occasionally. This was our fourth time at this course. We felt pretty good about it. We know if we want to golf and not pack clubs they have good clubs. Ok. So. The clubs were filthy. The grips were worn and sets mixed. Not sure why they went backward. I don’t believe they actually make tee times. Just line people up and start rolling them through. There were times there 3 groups on tee boxes. The guy in the shop was not really into customer service. So next time. We pack our clubs. And no more meadowlark.

Good ol’ Meadowlark — I grew up learning to play here. There is one thing that has always been consistent all these years, it is always over crowded. I don’t think I have ever played a round under 5 hours and usually it is around 6.
The course is ok — its just that friendly atmosphere of hanging where you grew up.
As long as you don’t have dinner plans and you’re ok with a 6 hour round, then enjoy!
The greens are usually in decent shape as are the tee boxes — they do need to sew up the range nets…

GET GPS ALREADY. For the cost of playing you would think this place would have GPS. Tee time was at 10:30 didnt get off until 11:10. They need Marshalls a starter to keep the flow moving. If you dont get on before 9am forget it. You wont finish before dark in December. I will not be back until those improvements. Food was ;(

Love love love the location of this golf course… the beach setting provides a lovely breeze to keep the heat at bay. We were here last Saturday when it was 95 degrees, but I couldn’t even tell it was that hot with the salty breeze coming through the course!
Our tee time was at 12pm, and although they were very busy you couldn’t notice while you were on the course because there was hardly any wait for each hole (which is hard to come by on a Saturday). I’ve been to plenty of courses in the last few months, and this is one of my favorites. They take very good care of the course, but the greens could use some TLC! There course is very open, and challenging at times, but without all the bushes that typical courses have it’s easy to keep track of your balls.
The drink lady came by several times, which was much appreciated! They had a fun vodka lemonade as their specialty cocktail, but we asked her to make us a bloody beer (bloody mary mix and a beer– refreshing and thirst-​quenching). Also, they have a café in the front, as well as an outdoor grill with fresh hot dogs and burgers.
We purchase our tee time through a third party vendor, so we only ended up paying $ 40 per person. I’ll definitely be coming back! Fun course

This is about a 3.75 star affair as I welcome you to «HACK CITY U.S.A.»…

The wife and I are plenty willing to admit we are beginners (1.5 years of fairly steady play invested) but we’ve had golf lessons (her more than I). We’ve played quite a few different courses now (more than 12) and I’ve never seen more errant balls fly into our fairway than I’ve seen here. For 18 holes I think I had one errant ball head into another fairway and the wife likely had 1 – 2 stray sideways as well.
As if play wasn’t slow enough as it was, we had borderline «Cuban Missile Crises» with errant shots often flying into our fairway. Fortunately only one shot actually was a Cuban missile as a golfer fired one into our fairway which sailed 10 feet over our heads as I ducked and wife nearly hit the turf. Thankfully he was kind enough to apologize as he drove by.
The FRONT NINE is basically flat and trees are relatively sparse. This makes this part of the course somewhat uninteresting even though it isn’t hideous to look at and is pretty well maintained. The BACK NINE is where things improve exponentially and «the grass is greener» (literally and figuratively). There are more trees, more water hazards, more hills etc. The 18^th hole was very nice to play as was an earlier hole going downhill where it was essentially a blind tee shot. In a nutshell, the back nine is much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
The STAFF is plenty cordial and helpful. The RANGE features «mat tees» minus the TEES as most mats have the rubber tees missing. Another beaut is that the netting is failing in spots so a golfer’s ball at the range can penetrate through and motor past you as you’re on one of the holes which surround the range.
The PRO SHOP definitely over-​schedules this course and without a marshall it seriously bogs down. The good news is neither of us are «impatient pukes» so it sort of worked out okay for us. In addition, it didn’t appear the other golfers were impatient either since I never saw anyone cranky or bitching about the wait between holes. That is a real rarity in itself these days. Possibly this is what this «technology age» needs now and then… something to slow us down? What better place than the golf course where its pretty much always a good day no matter how poorly your game goes.
An additional bonus of the slow play is that you can get away with being a «Multiple Ball Paul» here and there if you have a bad tee shot. Nobody was going to whine about it since it was crystal clear nobody was going home early. Our 18 holes took nearly 6 HOURS to complete which is a bit much for a course of this size… especially when you’re playing from the front tees (it was the wife’s idea due to my back issues so don’t judge).
As expected this course does have the local beach town vibe with dudes drinking beer around the putting green and behaving like loud and boisterous peacocks as someone makes or misses a putt but it all seemed pretty harmless. Unlike the David Baker Fountain Valley Course where a drunken twenty-​something was trying to instigate drama with other golfers and pedestrians. We definitely didn’t see anything like that here at Meadowlark.
I think we will be back but I’m thinking gambling on a weekday would be better.

This is a really nice course in the middle of Huntington Beach. As you play, you’ll notice quite a bit of trees separating your fairway from the rest. Each hole will offer some degree of direction or elevation change (or both) that will keep things interesting. There are also several large water hazard that keep things fun and frustrating at the same time :-) The green fees are really well priced too!
Additional highlights to this course include easy parking, a large well lit driving range, and a nice bar /​restaurant for after the game.
The only thing I don’t care for is you will find people jumping the order here. You’ll come around to the next tee and someone new will be in front of you. It tends to mess up the waiting times a bit. But I guess you can find that anywhere.
I believe this is an excellent golf course for how affordable it is. You should definitely check it out.

Food was good course condition was fair but not worth playing a 6hour round it was terrible

5 ¾ hour round. Waited a lot on every hole. Course is in ok condition. Cart girl was around a lot. Food is good here. Had a breakfast burrito, it was solid as any burger hut.
Be ready for hacks to the left of you, hacks to the right of you, hacks in front and back too.
Guys I played with today were awesome, it really saved this experience.
Pay $ 20 more and play a course in 4 ¹⁄₂

It is what it is. Play on the weekend after 10 and your easily looking at a 5.5 hour + day on the course. And when your playing, it’s the whole hurry up and wait mentality which makes it even worse. While I did get a good rate online to play, I do realize now why I got it. Fortunately though, we were able to finish all 18 do to many of the others in front of us calling it quits and allowing us to play through at a much faster rate. This course does have some nice holes on it on the back 9 and the cart girls are quite friendly.
I would definitely play this course again but probably during the middle of the week either early morning or early afternoon when it isn’t to busy at all.
