As a teacher, I used this company, because they advertise a program that they developed, called CalPath, which provides $ 12,000 towards the closing costs of a home loan. I regret this decision, because the branch manager, Joe Moore was so lackadaisical in the handling of my loan, it made the process incredibly stressful. I found all of the people in his office unprofessional and incompetent. He assured me he would meet my 30 day escrow deadline, then he gave my case to a full-time teacher to deal with, who was not on top of the paperwork, causing us to file two extensions. We spent 2 weeks getting the teacher everything he asked for, and then midway through our escrow, he asks for the exact same paperwork, as if he never got it. My realtor and I had to go over Joe’s head to get his manager involved, just to move things along and not lose our house. Do not use Mountain West. They are a business machine with a huge line of loans in their queue and don’t seem to care much for the people that the loan numbers represent. They sell the loans off as soon as it goes through. Joe Moore also lured me in with a good rate, that held consistent at 3.75 from January — May and then the very morning we got our offer accepted and asked him to lock in this rate, it suddenly has 2 increases within a few hours to 4.25%, before he finally managed to lock it in. Ridiculous.

Joe was great! We used the CalPATH program for our first home loan. Joe took the time to go over everything with us and was alway available for questions no matter the day or time. We close right on time(less then 30 days) just like he said we would for exactly what he said we would. He was a man of his word!

While, I appreciate Mr. Moore’s reply, it’s more BS. They didn’t «discover» that the property was a flip. This was made clear to Mr. Moore early on in the process when I told him the property was a flipped house and asked if that would be a problem. I was explicitly told it was not a problem. This was long before I got a rate lock or anything. You can chalk it up to incompetence or unethical behavior. Pick your poison. Also, yes, the situation that was explained to me was that I was going to have to pay an extra $ 1k. I was never told that going to upper management and having that fee waived was an option. If that was an option, I wouldn’t have stopped the loan and made my life much more difficult. I would have said, «Please waive that fee.» I was told the fee was a requirement, I said I don’t want your loan, I was then told ha ha, just kidding about that fee, and then Mr. Moore made my life even more stressful by contacting the seller without my knowledge, yada yada yada. The good news, though, is that we’re happy with our house which is great because I never want to go through the home loan process ever again.

I used Mountain West Financial to do a streamline refi a couple years ago and had a great experience working with Joe Moore. Because I live in Northern California, everything was done via email or fax, but every step of the way, I’d get a detailed email or phone call on exactly what I needed to do. Sure enough, the steamline refi went through, my interest rate lowered, and Joe saved me a couple hundred dollars a month off my mortgage. I was very pleased with how professional and efficient Joe and his staff were to help me out. Fast forward to a couple of years later, I was unaware that my property gained a lot of equity. It was Joe that called me to let me know and also went over some options. Imagine that, someone over 300 miles away informed me of this with a phonecall. This shows me that Mountain West Financial goes above and beyond to help their clients. I hadn’t been in contact with them in over a couple of years, and they are still looking out for my best interests. In a nut shell, he was able to change my FHA loan into a conventional loan(no more PMI payments! Woohoo!) and cash out to help my wife and I take care of some debt. Again, everything was done via email or fax and everything was taken care of. At the very least, I am very pleased with Joe and Mountain West Financial. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to any of my friends.
