Orange Coast Gakuen Japanese Language School

Love that this school invest a lot of money on continuing education for their teachers. Conferences and training are required of teaching staff. How awesome is that!

Nettles 先生 is the best!!! My wife and I are taking the beginner’s Japanese adult course with him, and I’ve learned more in the first semester than I did in 2 years college study. The school itself is really quaint, and everyone is always friendly and welcoming. They have special events they invite everyone to, do a yearbook picture day, and often have free treats to sample.
It’s a fair price for what you get as far as the adult study is concerned, and the classes are always fun and informative. It’s great to learn a language from a non-​native speaker, because they can understand the frustration we go through trying to learn the language in the same way. Also, Nettles 先生 has some of the best insights to help with learning some of the more complicated aspects of Japanese.
Plus, he’s very patient when we made dumb mistakes! ;) He’s also quick to respond to emails, and because the classes aren’t for college credits or anything, there’s no grade. It’s really freeing to take a class just because you love it and want to learn, without worrying about tests or quizzes.

OC Gakuen is a great place for kids to learn Japanese and it’s culture. My kids have been enrolled for the past 4 years and they have enjoyed the learning experience. The nice thing about OCG is that they have two tracks of language curriculum in order to accommodate the child’s Japanese ability level.
I definitely recommend the school to any child wanting to learn the Japanese culture and language.

A school that has hands on lessons, interesting curriculum and many cultural events (Mochitsuki, Setsubun, Hinamatsuri, Undokai and Children’s Day. They also have adult classes! Open on Saturday– Grades K — 12.

This is a Japanese language school, Gakuen means school. The school has a long history, maybe the oldest Japanese language school in Orange County. I have been sending my kids here for years, in addition to the language they are learning/​studying the school provides many opportunities for the students to be exposed to the authentic Japanese culture throughout the year with different and fun events. I am excited and looking forward to the new year since I heard that the school will start using a new curriculum that was developed specifically for the Orange Coast Gakuen by the professors who are very well recognized in the US in the field. The school accepts children from kindergarten through high school.
I believe they also offer Japanese classes for adults in 2 different levels. My kids don’t have enough opportunities to hear the language so this is a perfect place to immerse themselves in the language.
I have started to see many more non-​Japanese students come to the school to obtain credits for their local high school or just simply to learn the culture through the language.
