Schmidty’s Garage

This review based on my first experience here at this shop. First of all, I was not greeted when I first walked in after I was given the wrong direction to get here. I already knew that I need to either replace new battery for my Honda Hybrid, 2005 because of IMA light indicator was on. Before coming here I got a dignostic test at another auto shop which I have been going for a long time. I was referred here hoping they can reconditioned my hybrid battery, but turn out they took 3 hours just to do a dignostic test on the battery when it took my friend 5 minutes to find out. Yes, my friend’s shop used all pro machines to plug in and gave me results then. I wanted to get an alernative to high cost new battery replacement so that’s why I came here. John never inform me how long it would take and that they are just doing the same thing my ftriend’s shop had done for me. I mean, he was not a friendly person or care about customer and their car. Rather just get you in and take your money, even though this is the sales base position. I came in at 11:00 a. m and walked out at 2:45 p.m. I paid $ 125 for diagnostic test and he reset light indicator off and told me if it’s turns on within 90 days come back he will ts k e a look again. I mean, in the technician ‘s experience they knew I need new baterry and the current battery of mine can’t be reconditioned. Why didn’t they just be honest and told me so I don’t have to waste my time and fees. I could of just get new car if it cost me $ 4,000 to replace battery. No one ever thank me when I walked out. My IMA light indicator light when back on 2 minutes after I drove away from their parking lot. This is a hybrid auto shop and you don’t know what baterry can and can’t work with after 4 hours? I called to let technician know light went back on and I was advised to replaced it at $ 4,000 when my car valued at $ 5,000. Make no sense to me, but yes to them? You guys can judge if this is a customer care shop or a I want your money shop?

This is a first for me. I got an oil change at Schmidty’s Garage yesterday and as I was walking out to retrieve my car, the shop owner, Shane followed me out and told me that I was going to have to take my business elsewhere in the future. The reason? He told me I had done 14 oil changes in the past couple of years plus 2 $ 10 air filter change outs but no actual repair work at his shop. He further explained that his low price oil changes were a «loss leader» in the hopes of establishing a relationship with his customers on future repair business. Alright, I get that. Now, over the course of the 2 ½ years that I have been going to Schmidty’s for oil changes I have absolutely had work done on both my car and my wife’s car — they are old they need work periodically. In fact, most of the work that has been done has been work that Schmidty’s has recommended. I am not a rich guy, if someone tells me that I need $ 1,000 worth of repairs I do two things. First, I verify that those repairs are absolutely necessary and second I verify that the price I am being quoted is fair and reasonable. This is where there has been a disconnect between Schmidty’s and me. In some instances, it was determined that not all of the recommended work was needed and when it was needed the prices at Schmidty’s were higher, actually significantly higher than other shops. I explained to Shane that because I have had a good relationship with his shop and the people in his shop (they are good, friendly and honest people) I had always given him the first chance at any work to be done. I like Schmidty’s and the people that work there. I also let him know that his repair prices were simply much higher than his competitors. He told me that he had never had anyone from his shop ask him to match a price for me. Well, conversely I had never had anyone at his shop tell me that they would meet a competitor price — ever! If they had said that, if that is a shop policy then he/​they would have gotten all of the work. If you have a policy to match prices let your customers know that. I told Shane I would bring a copy of an actual receipt for work done on the car so that he could see the price difference — he hesitated… for a long time. I get it, he was not interested. He wants his customers to blindly accept his prices as being fair, even if they really are not. Accepting a great value on an oil change does not mean a customer should agree to be gouged on the cost of a repair to make up the difference.

Love this place. My next oil change is free because of the punch card :)
The shop is clean, employees are hospitable and honest. Oil change price is great in comparison to many other places. They back up everything they do.

Been coming here a long time. Shane and his crew are trustworthy, fair, and keep my cars running great. I’ve had a Prius since before there were a lot on the road and his team has been on the forefront of servicing hybrids and now they specialize in them. Keep up the good work and can’t recommend them enough.

I would not take my car here ever again the owner is not nice at all very unprofessional… Took car in — received back in worse shape then when I dropped it off… they never ran a diagnostic before returning the car made me wonder if they really did any work on the car at all… took car to Toyota Dealer 6 months later they told me I needed things done on the car that Schmidty’s «apparently did» — scratching my head here and more like WTH??? Schmidty’s does offer 3 year/​36 000 mile warranty on all parts and labor which is good so in this case they will be re-​fixing what didn’t get fixed right the first time — my opinion Schmidty’s is pretty sh** well you get the picture.

Great service and quality work for a very reasonable price.
Although I’ve only been here once for an oil change that also included a quick replacement of a lug post and nut, they were excellent. Dave, their service manager, was down to earth, very honest, and really sought to keep some additional repairs required on my old car down in the future. He’s also they’re school-​trained hybrid tech and was able to give me some good advice (and much a more reasonable estimate than the Ford dealership) on servicing our other car — a 2005 Hybrid Escape that has almost 200K miles. I didn’t ask, but when they saw my retired veteran license plates, they went ahead and gave me a discount too when I was done.
They’re prices are better than you’ll find anywhere in HB, and their service is much better. They keep appointments and the commitments they make on times and length of work. Their shop is immaculately clean and well organized — a tightly run operation. The waiting area is neat and has a window where you can watch the work on your car while sitting and getting your work done. I watched them closely work on my and other cars and I can vouch that the mechanics are well-​trained and their work inspected by senior mechanics.
We’ll definitely bring our cars back here for servicing.

I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been here so many times (Asian woman driver here!), but Schmidy’s really treats me like family. I really appreciate how they tell me exactly what’s wrong (nails in tires, worn ball bearings, etc) before they fix it. I love how they honor military (10% military discount for my active duty husband). I do not feel ripped off at all. They are the most honest, reasonable mechanics I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Oh, and that reminds me, I need to schedule an oil change for my mazda soon…

Great group of people. My husband and I have been taking our cars to them for about 5 years now. They used to be a small little shop and have since expanded, taking over most of the plaza. I take my car there for everything from standard maintenance to engine check lights to big repairs. I trust Schmidty’s to be honest and fair in their explanation and quote. Everyone is really awesome and nice too!
I’m happy to see a local business thrive.

STOP!!! It’s not even a close call to
choose Schmidty’s Garage over ANY competitor. This place is clean, organized, family friendly, quick, and a straight shooter through the board. The owner Shane makes you feel at home with a personal touch with each visitor and is by far one of the nicest hardworking business owners I have met. He is there everyday and his staff is superb. It is the only place I go for any of the work I need done to my car. Don’t even think twice. You won’t regret it!

Schmidty’s Garage has been my go-​to auto repair service for over 6 years now and the service has been nothing less than amazing. My car took a dump this morning and I had AAA come out and take a look. I was informed that I needed a new battery and that there was something wrong with my fuel pump. I had it towed to Schmidty’s and when we pulled up, Shane Schmidt was already out guiding the tow truck where to drop off my car. (The AAA guy even made a comment about how he’s never had a mechanic so «on top of it»). Ends up that I had my dome light on… oops. The guys replaced the battery (under warranty) and found nothing wrong with the fuel pump. My total cost today was $ 0.00. :) I trust this team 100% with their recommendations and highly recommend anyone looking for a new auto repair service to check out Schmidty’s Garage. Shane’s the type of guy that will remember you by your first name.

Close to home, Will definitely return for future car needs. Making an appt was easy, was there for an oil change and also asked if they can check routine things like– fluid levels, tires, etc., they were kind about my request.
I was informed about the length of time the work would take, After some time of working on & assessing my car; Shane, the owner, came to me & informed me personally of what my car needed, there was a couple of small things but mainly explained how «danger level» balding all my tires were, he also offered to show me all four tires, (now I know I’ve never bought new tires in the 6 yrs I’ve owned my car, so I knew they were way beyond overdue.) With genuine concern in his voice because he knows I have kids. Shane gave me a run down of choices in tire quality & prices in which he had in stock, also offered he could find what I had within my budget if he didn’t have it in stock, he left it open for me to decide freely with Zero pressures. What I especially liked, he added to say– that every time I get an oil change they will rotate tires for free. And anytime I need service on tires, like patching a hole or checking or needing more air they will take care of it all for no added charge as these services are all part of purchasing all 4 tires from them. I couldn’t refuse and I had the tires all replaced & balanced, oil changed, plus one of the small items my car needed for the battery they fixed, all this work for an affordable cost of $ 500, what he originally quoted me was exactly what I paid.
While I waited, the staff, who I found out was the owners family member, offered me water or coffee while I waited, informed me of the free wifi, and kindly directed me where the bathroom was located, which by the way had emergency baby diapers, wipes, & feminine products to offer too, she was attentive to any questions, needs & comfort. Periodically Shane & staff kept me informed of wait time and what was being done in car.
The lounge area, cool children’s play area, and bathroom were very clean. And magazines were all current & up to date, not like most places U go to where there a decade old (haha). My car was done sooner than expected, and feels like a brand new car again. I feel safe to travel now.
Schmidty’s Garage is honest, customer service driven, professional, affordable, and family oriented. Today’s visit was better than going to the doctors office.

My first experience with this garage and all I needed was a tire rotation. I called prior to coming in and was provided a quote. When I arrived the quote changed but I didn’t make a big deal as I thought the original quote was really generous. The girl I was working with said she would find out what happened, I told her not to worry about it.
I waited for my car which was ready in 15 – 20 mins.
I was then called over by a man who introduced himself as the owner, Shane. He apologized for the mistake over the phone and gave me my tire rotation at no charge! I was very surprised by his generosity and I will definitely try them out for my next service!
–Scheduling an appointment was easy, same day.
–Staff was very friendly and professional
–The customer lounge is very clean and provides various refreshments.
–Free wifi and area to work if you need to bring a laptop.
–Large open window into the garage so you can see them working on the cars.

I love this place. I come here for all my oil changes, and everyone is always friendly and professional. They’re not pushy, and they genuinely want to help and make sure we’re safe in our cars. Dan is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met and very caring.
The location itself is clean and organized, and there are usually refreshments while we wait. I enjoyed a hot apple cider in this California winter today. :)

Always a pleasant surprise to have an auto shop that not only offers quick and thorough service for a multitude of vehicle problems, but a genuine and caring staff to boot!
I’ve dropped off my vehicle twice at Schmitty’s Garage for service, and both times, I’ve left extremely satisfied! The staff will talk you through the problems your vehicle has, the honest cost on how much the work will be, and a crazy accurate window of when your vehicle will be ready.
Not saying I’m looking forward to my next visit, but I’m glad I’ll be going to Schmitty’s!

I was due for an oil change and after the free inspection, Dan walked me through his recommendations for new tires. I told him it wasn’t in my budget and he was so awesome. Told me he’d write everything down so I could shop around and if I found cheaper ones, he would not only match the price but beat it. Now that’s some good service! Thanks for all your hard work guys.

Called in to the shop asking if they could install oem brake pads.
–Stated that they could, Then i asked would it be possible if i brought in my own brake pads. They stated they would not install due to not being able to warrant the brakes.
–I did not ask them to warranty any service, i asked them how much it would cost to install brake pads that are still sealed in the box from the Acura Dealership. Maybe it makes sense to write on the invoice, customer brought in own brake pads so they do not warranty is all that would be needed on the receipt.
— I asked if they would install or should i ask elsewhere, and they said simply go elsewhere
–To me, I find your turning away business and haven’t listened to a thing i said, except try to enforce rules which can be changed to make business happen

Wow, what a very pleasant surprise to find a garage that will handle auto repairs at a fair price, staffed by professionals and supplying excellent craftsmanship.
I have received service on two cars within past week, the first time an issue with a passenger side window, the second on recommended services by dealer. In both instances I was welcomed by cheery, professional receptionist, who immediately inquired how they could be of assistance.
The repairs and services were handled immediately. I received feedback and informed as to what was to be done, and at what price. In both cases the prices quoted were fair, and in both instances they was no effort to sell me additional unneeded services or repairs.
This establishment is truly a Best In Class operation. I am very happy to have found Schmidty’s!

After a horrible experience at Certified Tire, I was stoked to find Schmidtys!
They were able to get me in the same day and finished up my oil change relatively quick!
Their employees are SO friendly. Every single person I came in contact with smiled and said hello, it was pretty impressive!
Their waiting area was really nice. They had a tv, free WiFi and play area for kids. They had a TON of magazines and complimentary water and coffee (Keurig).
I used their checking offer for $ 19.95 for an oil change and tire rotation and they gave me a punch card (5 oil changes and the 6^th is free!)
Love this place. They have definitely earned my future business! :)

Brought my 73 international scout ii in for some carb work. Talked with owner Shane directly throughout the entire process. Was very knowledgeable with IH specific needs/​quirks. Rebuild/​rejet done well. Lead mechanic miguel? Was great to walk me through it.
Pro shop, pro performance.

I moved here almost a year ago, and was looking for a place to have my oil regularly changed in addition to any other maintenance check ups. A friend had mentioned this place, so I bookmarked it to check it out for my next oil change.
My first visit went well. All the people there are super friendly which is nice! I was told I needed to have something fix, but could wait until my next oil change visit.
I went for my next oil change, and everything went well once again. My questions were answered and I like how they show you the damage of what needed to be replaced.
Plus, the new lounge area looks really nice! And I forgot there were punch cards here! I love punch/​stamp cards in general, and it was nice because I never got a punch card at the place I went to when I used to live up in the Bay Area. :)
