Came here last weekend with a group of friends, had a great time. Lounge feel, with friendly bartenders, great selection of beers, good music, fun crowd and amazing pizza from next door that they deliver to you. I highly recommend this little bar.

I pretty much found this place by accident. I was looking for the cove bar but when I saw the sign that said«cool bar» I thought it was the place I was looking for. Best mistake ever! The vibe is awesome, the karaōke is popping every night. I’m totally sold. I’ll return time and time again. It’s my dive bar now.

The world famous cool bar is pretty cool. I have been going there for a while even though the saki is over priced, the bar tenders are a great catch and are entertaining when they karaōke, which is every night. Being Asian, I enjoy my karaōke bars so this is always a top pick. Aside from the positive there is one complaint I have, bringing up their kewl postcards which say ‘wish you were here’ and they claim to send them out for you. This is really unique and creative for a bar and being a pink Floyd fan one of the reasons it is my go to bar. The last 3 or 4 times I’ve been in I have written some postcards to people which they have not received. I would like this to be addressed and you will get the extra star. POW!

This is the spot for a fun time any afternoon or night. Slow or packed, you never know when or what you’ll find. If its a slow time chances are you will enjoy insightful conversation with the bartender, if its packed you will hear an outstanding version of a favorite song sung at karaōke. Famous red and white sangria, don’t mix the two. Lots of locals. Easy place to make friends. Lots of parking available. Right off the 405 on beach blvd. See ya some time at cool bar.

This place sucks! Can’t even watch the national championship game because the owner is to cheap to even have basic cable!!!

I don’t like going to dive bars but this is great local dive bar location that I frequent. If you love to karaōke then this would be your new spot! Probably one of my hidden gems that I recommend for people to karaōke. Just remember your singing in front of people who don’t judge you but please pick a song that you really know the lyrics too or a song along song that makes it more fun. If you have trouble with the song, the MC will help you out! The ambience is great and the people seem more friendly here and not creepy like other local dive bars. My only complaint is they need to get rid of the pool table which takes up so much space in the middle if this establishment. I really believe the dive bar title would go away if they get of that darn pool table. Also, they have a great small selection of alcohol but need to carry more of a beer selection!

Fun little bar went here to celebrate my boyfriends birthday and the staff was super friendly that told him happy birthday at least 10 times. They also have karaōke night which is always fun especially when you have enough liquid courage to participate in the festivities

I absolutely love this bar! It’s close to my girlfriend’s house, so we walk here, whenever we are looking for some fun and to sing! Baird is the best bartender in the world and he always takes great care of us. We come and have some wine and sing karaōke, which goes on every night. I love this place! Come check it out.

So my friends and I come here because it’s the only bar around my neighborhood. Come to find out it’s the best bar ever. Great wine and beer, karaōke and my favorite bartender Baird!

Only been here once but was really feeling the vibe. I didn’t drink but my friend did and I don’t think drinks were too expensive. Plus I heard they do karaōke! I liked the strange décor and the funny signs up around the place.

Interesting place! Didn’t look that promising from the outside– but inside is very kitschy. Fun atmosphere if you like things a bit cheesy. Karaōke is fun here. Surprisingly it wasn’t that crowded for a Saturday night. Only downside was no hard liquor if you are into that kind of thing. I got a Dark and Stormy– but the rum content is so low– won’t even get you buzzed. Stick to beer and wine here. Would return!

The Shanghai’d room fills an interesting niche. Not only is it a cool little dive with plenty of interesting décor and an excellent selection of drinks, including dark and stormy’s and house-made sangria, it is also an excellent location for karaōke. One of the things I like most about it is the theme. Red lights, strung high on the wall, provide a soft, pulsing glow. Nets and pictures of tiny sailing vessels adorn the main room and bar area. Even their drink names are in keeping. True, it is a little small, which means that the late night customers that come in droves end up squeezing into small booths or crowding the bar. It’s also pay-to-sing, which isn’t really that bad — various people throughout the evening usually toss a few bucks in to let people keep the music going. The bartenders are nice and attentive. The KJ is very animated. If you’re in the area, and this sounds like your jam, check it out.

This is my go to bar when I’m in town. Friendly bartenders, great drinks, weird movies playing, and karaōke every night! Amanda, Mel, Vienna, and Baird are the best! The sangria is perfection and the beer is ice cold! There is always a diverse crowd and everyone is super friendly. Definitely one of my favorite places!

On a journey for some nightly adventure, I was invited to get«shanghai’d «at the Shanghai’d Room. Wow! I was super surprised on how small it was inside! I had heard so many great things about this place that I was still hopeful. Oh chopsticks! I felt a little dissatisfied. Let’s dish why… The bar area is your typical scene of lovable locals, laughing and drinking which is great! I love dives more than the corporate decorated bars. However, on the bar menu, it is pretty much libations(cocktails) and bottled beers. My friends and I were looking to share pitchers, sadly which they don’t have. So were fine with that, but then my friend wanted a draft beer, which they have, but are selective with about 2 or 4 brands to choose from. Oh double chopsticks. well we still aimed to have a great time even though our buzz just wasn’t happening. Perks: Karaōke is here! Strut your stuff and sing your heart out! Remember its public, so be brave enough to face an audience! A Pool Table stands out in the middle of the room to play. Staff is super friendly, and there are dark corners to definitely make out! ooooh la la… A+ for naughty — naughty! :-) Downsides: drinks are hit or miss with what you are desiring, however, it may not be an issue if you ask the bartender first. They will do their best to accommodate. No dancing really, however patrons dance near their seats. KNOW before you GO: Parking is limited out front, so your options to park are either on the residential street nearby, the Verizon parking lot after hours, or the parking lot in the back of the bar — which is pitch black. So you’ve been warned. please use caution. OverALL: Fortune Cookie says: A-OK. Its not horrible, but not amazing either. Still a great little dive to hang out with friends and locals. We will be back again.

Came here for the first time on a Saturday night with a friend who lives in the neighborhood so he’s been here plenty of times & when he said this place was cool he wasn’t lying. The bar is super small and only serve beer, wine, sake and sangria. It was karaōke night so it was definitely entertaining and they project the lyrics in the wall so if it’s a good one you never know the whole bar might join you. Also, there’s a pool table snack dab in the middle. We started off with beers and ended the night with sangria and I wish I just drank sangria all night because it was so good! The bartender didn’t just pour it in a glass over ice, he made it extra delicious and pretty. He muddled mint into the ice first then gave it a good shake then added blueberries on top, just writing about it makes me want another! If you’re looking for a divey, chill bar where everyone is chill, come here!

Popped in her after having some din-din at Georges(yum!) across the street. This was my first time in here as its not in my hood and I don’t usually stray too far from home especially on school nights. I tend to be late for class and get sent to the principles office. But what the heck. After a few glasses of wine with dinner I figured maybe a little time in detention or a couple of swats that it might be worth risking it. I still love to rock out in the car and occasionally sing in the shower too so why not share with friends! I’m normally not one for karaōke but thought no one knows me here what the heck. If you heard me sing you’d sorely understand. As in sore ears. The Shanghai’d Room is a cool little divey place that seems like it popped out of a 70’s kung fu movie. From the lights strung across the parking lot with the paper lanterns to the TV inside with the bad Asian movies with the funny as hell subtitles. Very nice touch! Cant repeat the subtitles here but wish I had a copy! The room has a very70’s Chinatown dive bar feel to it. Dark and mysterious with an Asian flair They only have beer, wine and wine concoctions. But that was fine with me I like beer it makes the words flow better when its your time to sing. The DJ was a cool guy and he has a huge catalog of jams. I was planning on doing a The Sugar Hill Gang’s Rappers Delight. «1234 come on girls get on the floor, come alive ‘yall give me what ya got ’cause I’m guaranteed to make you rock!» «I’m singing on n n on an on n n the beat don’t stop till the break of dawn» Guess I didn’t have enough liquid courage ’cause I Jumped in on a Rolling Stones duet with homeboy Dan instead. Just like Axl & Mick LOL Also we met this girl out front, talk about a cold fish! They got a smokers lounge out back with plenty of seating and lots of room inside to get your party on. So feel like singing or just chillin’? Either way give them a spin for a fun night out. I’d come back.
