I, like Mike, am also biased, but I’m in complete agreement. I started Shorinji Kempo only 2 yrs ago because I’ve always wanted to learn how to kick some butt and because Mike brought me. Shorinji kempo not only teaches techniques but also philosophy. Many martial arts have philosophy, but this one class teaches you how to apply it in your day to day lives. The instructor, Pankaj Rastogi Sensei challenges you to do well and to do good inside the dojo and out. We have yearly charity events as well as tournaments with other local branches. The biennual North American tournament gives us all something to work toward, as well as the Quadrennial International tournament. As with anything, diligence is a pre-req. This class just makes it fun and rewarding. **Edit** I just wanted to add that it’s been 4 years since I started with this martial art, and I just recently got my black belt. However, I think this is just the beginning! Shonrinji Kempo, under World Shorinji Kempo Organization(WSKO), is an international organization, and your membership is good world wide. I recently visited a branch in Osaka, Japan, and it was really a great growing experience. Beginners need not fear — the creed teaches us «to respect those ahead of us, not disdain those behind us, to give as well as receive help.» At Shorinji Kempo, everyone helps everyone else out. It’s all up to your own dedication!

I’ll admit that I am writing this from a bias standpoint. I am a member of this martial arts school and have been for the past three years. However, I can tell you that I sincerely feel that this is probably the best martial art out there if you’re into the balance of mind, body, and spirit. I won’t bore you with the explanation of Shorinji Kempo because you can check out the website. I will tell you that there are very few Shorinji Kempo dojos out there. Pankaj sensei, the instructor here, is the nicest person you can meet and his teaching methods make even the newest, unassuming student feel right at home. If you just want to come and try a class, we happily welcome you and hope to see you. For more information, check out the link to the website. You may also want to know that compared to other martial arts schools, Shorinji Kempo is only $ 35/month!
