Unilocalers. Swiss Fondue Stuebli has re-opened in Idyllwild as Swiss House Fondue! Looks to be even more charming than the original place!

My fiancé’(a well-traveled European) and I happened upon this place while out for a drive and looking for dinner. They were booked inside, but Antonietta apologetically offered us a table on the patio which was fine with us. The atmosphere inside and out was adorable and as authentic as I think you could get outside of Europe. They obviously took care in the consideration of the environment they wanted to present to their customers. The food: Delicious, quality, fresh, wonderful, authentic, charming, delightful. Did I mention wonderful? We had the Appenzeller cheese fondue with bread and potatoes, a Nüsslersalat, and the ginger tea(which is really just hot water with pieces of ginger, but very nice and a good compliment to the cheeses). While our food was being prepared, we were served a cute plate of various crackers with cheese and decoratively prepared vegetable amuse bouche. In most places and with a lot of food, you eat, you leave, end of story. This meal was different. I don’t think we have ever taken our time so much to a meal as we did here. It was simply enjoyable. I highly recommend this as a great experience for a romantic or special occasion dinner. The service: Could not have been more welcoming, warm, pleasant, kind, sincere… delightful. Antonietta is an absolute sweetheart. The chef, her husband, brought the cheese to our table himself. The waitress was adorable(sorry I don’t recall her name). The place was packed, but we were made to feel like old friends at our hosts’ home. The ladies checked on us enough to make sure we were comfortable, but not so much that we could not enjoy our quiet conversation together. We could not have been treated any better. Obviously, the positive energy of the owners, staff, and the food is infectious, for we found even some of the other customers to be friendly and fun. We spent a bit of time pleasantly chatting with a regular customer who was also no stranger to European life and cuisine. We were half-way through our meal when we decided we needed to bring some of our other European friends to dinner here. Sadly, Antonietta informed us that we had found them on their last night at this location and that they were still looking for a new place. We sincerely hope they find a good place soon. As soon as they do, we will be there! With friends! To the Unilocalers’ comments on being expensive: Go to the store and add up the costs of all the ingredients to make proper fondue. YES, it is costly. And to «it’s just bread dipped in cheese»: Welcome to fondue. Duh. Our bill came to $ 56 before tip. ***Worth. Every. Penny.*** And considering other fondue restaurants and cost of making it at home, quite reasonable. This is the first time I didn’t balk about spending more than $ 40 for a meal for 2. Best fondue I have ever eaten in a restaurant(and one of the best overall). Best service I have ever had anywhere outside of places where I was friends with the owner. Overall WONDERFUL experience!

Every time Antonietta left our table I wondered what kind of satan spawn could leave this place a one-star review. We received the kindest, most accommodating service in recent memory. The decorations were delightful. They grow cape gooseberries right outside. We received a Swiss education in dancing, music, food, and language from a collection of dancing figurines. We started with the Swiss plate ordered the seasonal fondue with some bread and extra vegetables. Finished off with a grapefruit moose and chocolate fondue. Everything was delicious, and we were happy to receive fondue guidance along the way. Thank you, Unilocal, for sending us here.

What a nice feeling… to walk into a place and immediately feel like you are welcome and that you can TAKEYOURTIME!!! I hate feeling rushed in and rushed out. This is a true European experience… right in HB! The classic fondue is to die for. The owners are hard working, down to earth, friendly people. They brought most of the décor over from their Switzerland homes. They grown a lot of their own herbs, etc. what a neat experience in SoCal. We would highly recommend. And have fun while there!!! My husband wanted to play the game if you drop your cheese in the bread. I wasn’t sure at first but glad I decided to not be uptight and go for it! Haha Wonderful place. A must go to!!!

This place is amazing!!! Looking for the place wasn’t too hard because I relied on my GPS. It is located in the Old World Shopping Center. I went there for dinner and did expected it to be small because of the pictures people posted on Unilocal. First Impression: I definitely loved how the place was decorated. Practically all the décor and plates were originally from Switzerland. The place is small but it definitely gave it that intimate setting. Beside the cute décor and romantic environment(because remember, we went at night), the first thing that struck me was the weird smell. It is definitely not something I was used to; however, my friend told me that it is the familiar smell of cooking cheese which then made sense. So be aware! Lol Experience/Service/Food: The restaurant wasn’t busy and the lady who served us was actually the owner. She was definitely attentive and sweet. She always made sure we were doing okay and entertained us with the dancing Swiss man and Swiss German Cow. She seemed genuine and sort of reminded me of a loving mom or grandma. I asked her what she recommended for fondue and we ended up going with the Classic Cheese Fondue because she explained that it was not as strong. As we received our cheese fondue, we had the privilege to meet her husband which was actually the cook! He did a phenomenal job with the fondue and checked up on us as well to see how we liked it. We also ordered the Nüsslersalat. Definitely a recommend! Such a delicious salad with homemade Swiss dressing. Price: Overall counting the experience and service it was worth the money. For dinner, it is $ 19 per person for the fondue which is pricey but I say it is worth it for what you get. I definitely would recommend it for special occasions or if you’re in the mood for something a little more romantic. I don’t know how much it is for lunch. Maybe cheaper but I would read up on other reviews to make sure. It was a great experience. Definitely try it out at least once, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

This was our first time to a non-chain fondue restaurant — and there is no comparison to this place. From the moment we entered, it was as if we were friends catching up on dinner. The warmth, recommendation and presentation of the fondue and the sides for my daughter were impeccable and perfect. The fondue, beer selection and homemade desserts were perfect compliments to the meal. If you have ever been to another fondue place, go here and explore their more complex and spiced cheeses. You will not be disappointed.

This place is amazing!!! 1st. Little restraunt just opened this last July. They are tucked into the German village by Bella terra. The whole place is decorated basically with the family’s heirlooms they brought from Switzerland. Very homie, stay for awhile, play games vibe. 2. They are run by what I believe is a wife husband and daughter team. They are amazingly friendly and want you to have a great time. They bring you a fondue game to play while you wait an little dancing toys that sung Swedish songs. 3. It is a little pricey making it not an everyday stop. But when your going out for dinner and you want something different this is your place. The food is amazing. We got the house mix cheese fondue. Comes with all you can eat bread. Then we got a bratwurst and a vegetable/fruit tray. Everything we dipped in the unbelievable cheese mixture was amazing. Last time we had the classic mix it was good but mild. The house mix had a little extra spice. Not hot just spice. You will not be disappointed. 4. She decorated everything for valentines day. It was very cool. I posted pictures. Since it was vday she had a surprise at the end. She let us roll two dice. Whatever we got we got that percent off our bill. How cool is that no one does that these days. 5. Lemon cello. It’s homemade and is amazing. I would come for this alone. Too sum up. This place has amazing food, great atmosphere and an excellent staff. They are honestly the nicest people in the restraunt business. That’s why they need you to try their place out. It’s hard getting out there but once people hear of this place there will be a line around the block. Thank you very much for an amazing valentines day dinner.

This place is a gem. It’s so precious, and I’m happy that I took my boyfriend here. When you visit this place you will have a totally brand new dining experience. So if you want to avoid all the fancy dining and the noisy crowds at Bella Terra. This place is probably for you.(Check out the gallery, I’ll add multiple pictures) This is how authentic as it gets for Swiss fondue. «You are here to relax, so please take your time!» ANDHELLYES I DID. This is a mom and pop restaurant, and the wife(Antonietta) was our server/waitress for the night. Antonietta is such a sweetheart she was so kind to tell us stories and took her time to explain about the foods we were about to try. This place is really small, and it looks like a home! Everything was decorated with vintage items from Switzerland along with lots of dolls and cows. LOTSOFCOWS! :D! *****Oh by the way, when I came into this place a lot of tables were reserved, so please make a reservation in advance if you plan to visit. ****** We had the Swiss Plate which was DELICIOUS. If you plan to get this eat the one with the floral decoration. It doesn’t look like cheese, but ITIS. People usually mistaken it as décor. Antonietta also demonstrated on how she made the decoration as well. It was so good, my goodness! We also had the Classic Cheese Fondue with the veggie platter: D! While you eat your fondue there’s also more things to do than just eat. There’s a card game where if you drop a piece of bread you have to pick a card and do what it says. Some are nice, and some are very embarrassing such as dancing in the restaurant or yelling out of the window, or singing a song. I had to draw cards multiple times unfortunately :(My boyfriend never dropped a piece X_X;;; The price is reasonable for Swiss Fondue for $ 19.99 per person. The fondue is portioned enough for the amount of people in your party. You will get full! The cheeses are so good you can tell its rich in flavor. Antonietta’s husband works in the back, but he did an amazing job preparing food for us. I had a wonderful time as well as my boyfriend. I hope we come back to this place. It’s truly a gem. She didn’t see us leave, but when we walked out she greeted us «goodbye» The service here is way too good and way too genuine. People should visit places like this more often. Support Mom & Pop Shops! :D! If you are reading this review. Get off your seat and go to this place. You will not regret it. You. Will. Not. Regret. It. FORREALSIESSS!!!

Well, no surprise on the 5 star rating. Service was amazing, everyone was super friendly and nice. My wife and I have traveled and lived in Europe and having visited Switzerland I feel I can say this place is definitely legit. The food and vibe is great, definitely a little escape from the OC day to day. I’ve never been to a fondue restaurant or had real fondue for that matter. It was super tasty, the cheesy goodness was just that — I ate until I could eat no more. My honest favorite parts of the meal were the appetizers. The sausuge and meat plates were soooo tasty, instantly made me miss living in Europe. The dark Franzikraner(spl?) beer that I got on the owner’s recommendation was SOOOO good. I’d go there just for a sausuge and beer. Heads up — be prepared to spend $ 80+ for two people and call ahead for a reservation as they fill up quick.

My partner and I have been to Swiss Fondue Stuebli three times now and this is our official place to go when we have out-of-town guests. The food is absolutely amazing and is trumped only by the inviting atmosphere and friendly owners. I highly recommend the desserts! They are all homemade and come adorned with goose berries that are grown on site! This is definitely a great place to go for special occasions in Southern California. You will feel like you are a part of the family from the moment you walk in the door!

Restaurants get five stars when they are the absolute epitome of the category that they represent — Swiss Fondue Stuebli fully deserves this rating. My friend and I came here trying to find an authentic Swiss restaurant for a guest we were hosting from Switzerland, and we were all blown away. First of all, the service is absolutely amazing. As others have stated here, I felt as though I had travelled back to Lucerne and entered into my friend’s grandmother’s house. Antoinette was an excellent hostess, and the pride she held for Switzerland shone through in the way in which she served us our meal. If there was one thing as good as the service, it’d be the food! I love cheese, I love melted cheese, so I love fondue. And though that might make me biased, I’d like to think it makes me an expert: P Okay, not really. But the food is definitely delicious and quite filling(though I left feeling perfectly satisfied). TAKEAWAY: Go to Swiss Fondue Stuebli if you are looking for a great local restaurant that gives you an authentic taste of another little corner of the world. Play the fondue games, drink some wine, and have a great time! Proscht!

This was my first time trying real fondue and it was pretty good. We had the house mixed fondue, swiss plate of different meat&cheese, and the bratwurst.(My favorite of those three was the bratwurst) But I think when I return I’m just going to get the chocolate fondue. SOGOOD! You’re given a platter of all types of different fruits and cookies and they all taste amazing dipped in the chocolate. The place is so sweet. The owners moved here fairly recently from Switzerland, and they are so very kind and welcoming. You kind of get the same feeling of generosity as if you were visiting your grandmother’s house. It’s a small and cozy place and you’re welcome to stay as long as you’d like; I think we were there for about two hours. It was relaxing and the food was delicious!

High quality foods served as if you’re over at a friends house. Staff was attentive, personalizing the dinner for a birthday guest we invited. The Raclette service was authentic. The other guests had 2 different fondues which made for a great tasting event. I started with the house salad. It was much better than expected. The last time we were in Switzerland, the produce there is not on par with what you see in California. My expectation was a bit jaded to begin with, but sure to order it. Bar prices«are what they are» FYI but the owners pored some Limoncello at the end of the night(complementary) which was fantastic. Expect to spend more than you intend to — not as if you have to tap into your secret Swiss bank account — but more than what you’d pay at other, less personal fondue places in O.C. It’s well worth it just to experience what dining is like if you were in Bern or Zurich for the evening.

Living in NYC and having amazing, authentic cheese fondue from Food Network’s best-rated cheese fondue restaurant almost weekly, I struggled with finding an authentic cheese fondue restaurant here in the OC. I had to settle for places like the Melting Pot and Simply Fondue, which don’t get me wrong … are nice restaurants that offer an exquisite dining experience, but their cheese fondue just didn’t do it for me … their westernized cheese blends were bland and highly processed. Recently, I stumbled upon a gem of a place. Stuebli, located in quaint Old World Village, was everything I had hoped for and more. When you step inside this intimate restaurant, you feel like you’re stepping into a real Swiss home. Everything is so authentic, from their imported cheeses, home-made onion pie, Swiss hostess and Swiss chef to their wall decorations and Swiss cow bells dangling on the walls. Their cheese blends were so yummy that after the first pot of cheese, we had to order another!(The classic blend was my favorite … so full of flavor!) And if you are inquisitive about Swiss food, as we were, she obligingly showed and explained a lot of interesting Swiss things to us. It was quite the dining and cultural experience! Definitely a must go!

Swiss Fondue Stuebli gets 5 stars hands down. We went in tonight, 11÷04÷12 around 7:30 pm. The owners were extremely nice and sat us right away. They have really gone to the extra mile to make this a really fun experience. They brought out glasses with a Swiss flag logo on them. When our swiss fondue came out, they brought a bread bowl with a swiss flag sticking out of the bread. One of the owners(who was our server) also brought out a deck of cards, and they have a fun game, where if you loose a piece of bread in the fondue you have to pull a card and do what it says. Some of the cards say things like«act like a pig» or yell«I lost my bread out the window» The owner also brought over a cute little doll that dances and set it on the table for our entertainment. The food was delicious, but what will keep us coming back was the owners hospitality, the unique features of the restaurant. The ambiance is so cozy and romantic, this would be such a great place to bring a date or have a girls night. Please make sure you check this place out, we are all about supporting local businesses and I guarantee you that you will fall in love with this place.

I thought only chocolate fondue existed!!! for real! Went here for a bday dinner w/my friend and because I received a gift certificate. Even thought I live around the area(for years!), this was my first time in this area and I never knew this area existed. It seemed like it was all apartments. I thought only Oktoberfest existed here! So sad… The area’s cute. They have a bunch of other shops there. It’s a quiet environment. Came here on a Saturday. My friend and I thought the place was closed because the open sign was off on the backside of the building, but it wasn’t. We weren’t sure where the entrance was until we walked around and saw a posted sign. This business prefers you reserve in advance, although walk-ins are welcomed. If you want to get the meat fondue order, you MUST reserve at least 1 day in advance. They say 1 day so they can prepare it and because it’s more intimate/romantic, blah blah blah. We wanted that order but didn’t want to come back, so we got the classic cheese fondue order(which comes w/plenty of bread; if u run out, they will ask you if you want more), potatoe dish, and a cheese plate and a complimentary order of meats and crackers with cheese. The cheese had alcohol in it, which isn’t a bad thing, but it gave the cheese a weird taste. I had to add a lot of crushed pepper to it. My friend and I finished everything, I ate more since she was stuffed and I don’t waste food! I ended up turning off the burner so the cheese can get clumpy and it would be easier to scoop up the cheese. I cleaned that pot good. My friend and I were stuffed… until 2am!(We got there around 5pm. If you like cheese and good customer service(and don’t mind forking out some cash), this is the place to go, especialy for first timers who like to try new things. There might be a deal online(search for it)…

This place just opened up and is very authentic! My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and we both love the whole experience. The Champagner Cheese Fondue had such interesting flavors and is made from cheese straight from Switzerland, and the Chocolate Fondue was some of the best chocolate we’ve ever had!
Our waitress was the wife and part owner of the restaurant and she was the sweetest Swedish lady we’ve ever met! Because the place is in Old World Village, sitting in the outside patio transports you straight to Europe, while being surrounded by German and Swiss décor. Everything in the restaurant is direct from Switzerland which only adds to the authenticity of the place. They did not serve meat fondue at the time, however on the menu it said«coming soon» so I would call ahead and ask if you have yourself set on meat fondue. Also, they are in the middle of obtaining their liquor license so unfortunately no beer until a few more weeks :( Regardless, eating there made us feel so happy and we are looking forward to going back there again! SUPPORTSMALLBUSINESSES!!! especially great ones like this one: D P. S. this is GF speaking if you couldn’t guess that already lol
