Froehlich Farm Nature Preserve

Cool little nature preserve, formerly a potato farm back in the day. Many little plots where long islanders cultivate organic produce. About 0.5 miles of nature trails. Look forward to checking it out again next summer when the crops are in full swing. Nice to see a little green space instead of rows upon rows of houses.

Hidden gem! Ok it’s not huge but it’s something! One of the last open spaces left in Huntington! I’ve biked by this place a few times but never noticed any entrance until now. There’s one right off of W Rogues Path and another behind Breezy Park. The bare autumn trees made it easier to find.
The South side has one straight trail that leads to the railroad tracks. The North side contains the few little farms inside growing organic wonderful produce which is all donated to Long Island’s food pantries. They have a little bee sanctuary in there too. The Friends of Huntington Farmland maintain it. The group’s mission is to protect drinking water and enhance open space and its wildlife for the education and enjoyment of the community.
Once you come upon this natural setting, you’ll feel an immediate sense of relief from the cramped buildings so common to the Huntington Station area. You can enjoy a wonderfully calm, natural atmosphere just jogging or biking back and forth the small stretch of road that borders the preserve. Some large homes with big yards line Pulaski Road (but no where as impressive as many, many other parts of Long Island) but that doesn’t interfere with the peace you can enjoy here. Thank goodness for little spots like these. They’re especially important for young people to take a break from their televisions and Xboxes or whatever they’re glued to these days, and without having to participate in competitive sports just to enjoy the outdoors. You can actually hear yourself think over here.
