In the heart of downtown Huntington is a Fantastic Portuguese restaurant & bar, they many Portuguese seafood specialties but on this trip enjoyed the flamed chorizo for an appetizer and chicken stew entrée. They have the friendliest bar staff in town! I highly recommend the Portuguese beer called Sagres, I know you will love it

I am a true Portuguese and this is not a true Portuguese Restaurant. First of all a true Portuguese restaurant has an espresso machine NOTAN Nespresso machine. Strike one. Second of all they need to hire more Portuguese speaking waiters. Overall the food was Ok, not great. I personally would not come back again, Sorry and please get a real Espresso machine…

Torn between a 3 and a 4 because the food at Fado is delicious but the overall experience leaves a bit to be desired. We’ve only eaten downstairs and while it’s very quaint when slow, it’s a nightmare to navigate when the place gets busy. The tiny room has a small bar and about 10 tables that are very close together. The place settings are right next to the front door and the kitchen door swings open to where people wait for the single restroom. Combined, this makes for an uncomfortable dining experience despite the lovely food. Servers were nice but the place seemed a bit short staffed. Will give it another shot because there’s a lot of tempting menu items to try and if all else fails, there’s always take-out.

We came to Fado for New Years Eve and for the most part, they did not disappoint. Fantastic Paella, incredible flounder and apps were on point. The ONLY down side is the absolutely ridiculous bar stock. There were no popular spirits on hand. No popular bourbons or scotch, no popular tequila etc. when asked they stated that they stick with small Batch and local… No thanks… that is fine, but have Woodord, Bulleitt, Glenlivet, Johnny Walker, Patron Etc at very least… they lost around 100 bucks in spirits purchase with us. It comes off as being cheap and lower tier to me. Upgrade your bar and you are 5 star.

Great staff! Food was amazing. We had our rehearsal dinner upstairs which was a great space. The party was about 60 people and they staff provided excellent service from start to finish! Allison, the owner, was very nice and accommodating. would recommend. P. S. try the piri peri chicken you won’t regret it

I’ve been here for just a regular dinner, for dinner on last New Year’s Eve, and also had my baby shower in the room upstairs. So I really had a few different experiences at this restaurant. But the one thing that has remained the same is the food quality and the quality of service. The food is ALWAYS delicious. It isn’t cheap but you’re paying for ambience and the quality of the food. I love the smaller dining room downstairs. It gives a nice cozy feeling and in the warm weather they open up the front windows to give more of a Manhattan feel. I’ve never felt like I was part of someone else’s conversation or annoyed by any of the conversations going on around me. If you don’t like the conversations that people have in Huntington maybe you shouldn’t come here. I’ve been here with people from Portugal and they were very complementary of the food. For what you get for a party upstairs I thought that it was extremely reasonably priced. The owner and staff also pleasure to work with.

I booked Fado for our staff Christmas party on a recommendation. We went there the other night to try it out before the party. I have to say it was so busy but I’ve never seen a more attentive caring staff. The Portuguese wine I had was amazing and so was the food! They are very accommodating to gluten free patrons. I will be back for the party and after!

The best authentic Portuguese cuisine on Long Island. The staff is so kind and they make you feel at home. Love this place.

I went here to treat my parents to dinner. We all opted for the restaurant week menu which included an appetizer, main course and dessert. The eggplant stuffed with mushrooms and cover with a blue cheese sauce was delicious. It had a hearty taste that was complemented by the blue cheese sauce that was not overpowering. For the main course I tried the almond crusted chicken and the traditional stew. The stew was packed with several types of meat and broccoli rabe. Flavor was spot on. The broccoli rabe absorbed the flavoring of the stew and was tender. Portion was large as I could only finish ½ of it. The chicken was also tender and moist, but was a lot lighter than I expected. I had the bread pudding for dessert which had just the right amount of sweetness. It was not as heavy as other bread puddings that I have had. Also tried the white sangria which was average. Service was slow, but they made it up to us by offering complimentary wine and coffee.

Came here for restaurant week, and the food was eeeehhhhh. The non-resturant week menu looks great, but pricey. I don’t mind spending the extra dollar for quality, but that restaurant week menu was pretty lame. We didn’t finish anything that was served to us, it wasn’t terrible just mediocre. The eggplant app was in a thick butter sauce that was cold, the almond crusted chicken was something i would make at home with limited amount of time. The desserts were costco like. The service was great, but the table next to us got a piece of someones mind, because they only tipped $ 20.00 on a $ 200.00 bill so the waiter basically put the customer on the spot and got an extra $ 20.00 out of them. Overall me and my love, use restaurant week to get an idea of what a restaurant is serving and this place obviously dislikes the idea of a pre fixed menu, with reduced prices. Not sure if i will give it another shot, to pay top dollar is risky in my book. Agc

My husband and I ate at Fado on Friday, during Long Island Restaurant Week. We thought the restaurant was adorable and we liked our seat by the large picture window with mums outside, but we were generally unimpressed with the restaurant. The service was a big drawback for us. It was slow and inattentive. In fact, I asked for my salmon to have no pecans and coconut and the waitress said«Okay, so the glaze on the side.» The glaze sure was on the side… and all of the pecans and coconut flakes were on the salmon. We each ordered the sweet potato bisque(which was okay, but a little thick, more like a pure purée), I had the salmon, and my husband had the almond crusted chicken(which he didn’t like). For dessert, he had bread pudding(good) and I had a cupcake(good flavor, a little too dense). Overall, we were kind of disappointed.

I’d been dying to check out Fado for months(ever since I moved to the village in March), but for one reason or another I hadn’t gotten around to it until tonight. My parents bought a Groupon deal to take me out for my birthday, so we went. Anyway, I’ll say right at the beginning that I was not at all disappointed(as you can probably tell by my 5 star rating). The restaurant is quite small; only around 7 – 8 tables. We arrived around 6 and there was only one other party seated at that time, but by 6:45 it was full. The staff were all friendly and attentive and our water glasses were always full, which is something I always notice because I drink a lot of water! They brought out a bag of warm dinner rolls and sliced brown bread with a little dish of garlic marinated olives and garlic and herb butter. I didn’t try the dinner roll, but helped myself to two slices of the brown bread. It was so good – dense and chewy, with a crisp crust. I started my my meal with the caldo verde a fado soup. It had a light cream broth with a smoky flavor from the pieces of chorizo that were in it, as well some collard greens. The flavor was delicious, but it could have used some more chorizo. For my main course, I had the sohla a cascais, a flounder dish recommended by a friend of mine. Wow. It was fantastic! I am not exaggerating when I say it was one of the best seafood entrees I have ever eaten. I would go back just for the flounder. It was THAT good. The sautéed spinach it was served with was excellent as well, and the potato strings weren’t bad either. My parents had the paella and Parmesan crusted filet of sole. They also enjoyed their meals, but mine was the clear winner of the night. We were all too stuffed to order dessert, but they had a bread pudding and sweet potato pecan pie that sounded really nice.

I saw the good reviews for Fado and decided to buy the groupon for it. It was one of my best groupon purchases ever! The staff was so helpful at finding the perfect wine for my girlfriend. For an appetizer we ordered mussels with bacon bits etc. and they were divine. I had a hankering for more seafood so I ordered the Fishermen’s Stew and it was so flavorful. I found myself full but kept eating. My girlfriend ordered the Flounder and it was the best she’s ever had! I had a couple bites and I would definitely order what she had next time. Fado is absolutely worth trying out. The groupon helped me save money and I would suggest purchasing it if it’s available. My girlfriend and I have had some dreadful experiences this past year at restaurants so it was so refreshing to visit such a great establishment. I would recommend calling for a reservation as the restaurant is on the smaller side but there may be an upstairs. It was pretty packed for a random Monday. Enjoy!

The food was excellent; I ordered the Fisherman’s Stew which was tasty to the point where I kept eating long after I was full. I’m not a fat guy, but I couldn’t help myself. So perfectly cooked. My wife ordered the ribeye which was huge and nearly as good as my meal. A nice touch was the hot bread that stayed hot because of the cloth container thingamajig, also delicious. Arguably one of the best wait staffs I’ve ever come across. Our waiter was not only friendly, but it came off as completely genuine and he made us feel as if we were in his own home. While leaving another waiter decided to be friendly too. We already paid our check, left a tip for the other guy, and were walking out — he had no ‘reason’ to be friendly, but it goes to show you how good they are here. He made my daughter laugh her butt off to cap off our nice night. I walked away so impressed that if I could afford it this would be our go to restaurant. One tip: It’s tiny. I mean, really really small. Don’t just walk in, try to make a reservation.

Just leaving here and had to leave a review. This place is amazing. Such good food, great service. Maybe a little pricy, but with the groupon it was totally worth it. For the appetizers, we got roasted figs with goat cheese and these rice-cheese balls which were like the best. Everybody’s entrees were really good too. Check the menu online — they have a lot of choices, mostly seafood prepared in a lot of different ways. The service was really great too. I’ll have to watch out for another groupon here and come back.

Stopped in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon with my wife after some business meetings. There was only one other table occupied. We both ordered salads. She had the salad a fado. Greens with salmon, beets, fig goat cheese, toasted sugared walnuts and a light orange citrus vinaigrette. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the cheese was delicious, nuts weren’t overly sweet and the dressing was good. My wife requested the dressing be on the side and it wasn’t so it was overly dressed for her taste. My salad had sardines, hard boiled eggs and a vinaigrette. The sardines were good, not overly dishy tasting but the vinaigrette was too oily. My wife’s salad was very nice, except for being overly dressed. Mine was just ok. Service was not great. Dressing wasn’t in side like requested and her soda had lemon in it when it was requested that it come with no fruit. Not big things but when the restaurant is very quiet, these are not things to be missed. We will give it another try when we’re in the area.

As a frequent visitor to Huntington Village, we always passed by Fado, simply because it wasn’t the right time or in our plans to dine there. Last night, with eager anticipation, we joined our friends for what was certain to be a special evening. We were lucky enough to grab the wonderful table that is against the angled mirror towards the back of the charming intimate dining room. This allowed us a modicum of privacy, the ability to converse and yet made us seem as if we were in the middle of the room. We started the evening with drinks. I had a perfect dry martini, made with Greylock Gin from our Western Mass friends at Berkshire Distillery, three olives of course, my friend had an amber Portuguese ale that he thoroughly enjoyed. The ladies shared a pitcher of sangria made with the Fado house wine, I had a sip and it was delicious! We shared appetizers. The grilled squid and octopus salad were both delicious, tender and flavorful. The house salad that followed was fresh, perfectly dressed and beautifully presented. Having perused the menu online, I had already decided that the pork and clam entrée would serve as a perfect example of regional cuisine. Oh Fado, I so wanted to love you, but alas you left me brokenhearted. My dish came and I took a few forkfuls. The dish was a tad too salty for my taste, and the cubes of pork were not what I expected, they were lean, white and slightly dry. I was thinking in my head that I would be eating unctuously fatty porky morsels, instead I got the other white meat. Then it dawned on me that mussels had been substituted for clams. Apparently they had not received a delivery of clams, and as apologetic as the waiter was, how can one forgive not being told in advance that a clam dish would have no clams? A gratis flan, as sweet as it was, could not replace the bitter disappointment I felt. Aside from the slip of the clam, the service was attentive, the staff passionate and the atmosphere superb. I did spy delicious seafood platters, including a whole grilled fish, and a gorgeous grilled rib steak being served at other tables, and might be willing to see if a second time visit will be the charm.

Food: 2.5 stars Atmosphere: 3 stars Service: 1.5 stars Let me just start off by saying that the flavors are actually pretty good and the recipes would be fantastic. However, the execution was so poor. The paella, as an example, was highly recommended by the waiter and we had high expectations. However, when it came we were very surprised at what we received. At first look, it looked amazing with loads of fresh seafood. However, the seafood was very over-cooked. And under the seafood was almost no rice and what rice was there was almost mushy. Also, there was way too much liquid for the dish to be called a paella. It was almost a seafood soup with a little bit of rice in it. All the other dishes were similar. Great concepts from old-school recipes with great flavors, but awful execution. The servers were generally super nice, but it was super slow and very inattentive. No one was asking us how we were doing, plates were not cleared on a timely basis, water glasses were not refilled, etc. It’s the little things that make for a great experiences and we didn’t not receive this here. Still the highlight of the night was when the waiter spilled the super hot fluid from the mussel/clam dish on my 18 month old daughter. Luckily, she was fine(the boiling hot juice fell onto her sweater and dress and missed her skin). So happy that we escaped a trip to the hospital for burns, but it was still quite a scare. And on a very secondary point, needless to say though that her clothes were ruined. I think it just bothered me that we received no apologies at all. And at the end of the night, we received the bill as usual and we were our way. Not that I was expecting a discount or anything, but some kind of gesture would have been nice.(or just an apology!) Maybe I’m just asking for too much… Unfortunately, I can not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
