This store is a bit of an icon for Huntington however I think it’s gone to their head. While their baked goods are tasty and they have a good selection, the prices are way too high. The store is also too cluttered with various nicknacks and patty whacks(give a dog a bone?) and kinda leaves you with the impression that they don’t know exactly what it is that they are. You really can’t even turn around too quickly without fearing that you’ll bump into something and knock stuff over. I would rather see the Huntington Country store pull back from their inventory of «gift/touristy» items and focus on their baked goods and candy. Keep it simple stupid. The staff however is very friendly and always smiling and they do treat you well.

It’s a bit pricey. There is allot to see. Aisles are crowded with all sorts of chachis. Makes your head spin. Baked items vary from muffins to quick breads. A little dry. They have an ice cream counter, but again, plan on paying for it.

This store was one of my favorite, key word WAS! We experienced public embarrassment. My friends 12 year old son was picking out candy and since they didn’t supply bags to put the candy in he put it in his pocket. When we got to the registar a male employee came over to us and began yelling and screaming that this little boy was stealing, and began to tell us that he could call the police and have him arrested. Instead of pulling us aside and asking us to pay, he created a scene that was handled poorly. We told the employee that we would pay for the candy and whatever else we were buying, but this employee would not stop telling us that he could prosecute us for concealment and have us arrested. Over 50 cents worth candy! Very unprofessional on his part since we had not stepped out of the store yet. I understand that kids steal candy, but it was clear that our intention was to pay and clear up this misunderstanding. However the way this was handled was totally unprofessional and they lost a group of customers that would have shopped there for life. I’m disappointed in the manager for not handling this situation differently and the lack of training their employees have.

I took a drive out of Westfield, Massachusetts one afternoon and headed west along the Westfield River and up into the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains to get a look at the countryside and to have a better idea about the geography of the region. Along the way I spotted the signs directing me towards the Huntington Country Store and decided to stop for a look. The store is housed in a 200 year-old building which serves as the general store for the area. There’s a small sandwich counter inside which also serves coffee, tea, and ice cream, along with a variety of baked goods, candy and snacks. What captures your attention is the wide variety of things available for sale inside the store — country goods, gourmet chocolates and candy, stocking stuffers, jewelry, windchimes, baskets, Christmas ornaments and cards, toys and crystals. They have pewter figurines and lots of collectibles, kitchen gadgets and pottery. You’ll smell the wonderful aroma of the candles, spices, Wrapples, baked goods, grinders and wraps, hard ice cream and soft serve ice cream, fancy soaps, potpourris and gourmet coffees as you walk around the shop. Whew!!! And that’s just a partial list of what you’ll find inside. If you’re driving out through the foothills of Western Massachusetts then I highly encourage you to seek out the Huntington Country Store for a fun stop.

Ok, this review is kind of biased in that one of the biggest things weighing in on it is… dun dun dunnn… the apple pie. HOLY mother, these pies. I’d never been here before until yesterday, while visiting the in-laws. We needed a dessert for dinner so we went over to the country store and it was so cute. Lots of stuff! Not everything was something I’d want to buy, but it’s pretty much a guarantee that if you look around long enough, something will pop out to you and catch your eye. Super rural, hometown-y charming place. The staff was very friendly, and as I opened my review— the pie. The crust was so flaky. SO many apples. Perfectly seasoned with just enough cinnamon… it might be the best apple pie I’ve ever had. Yeah. I can only imagine how delicious those little ‘wrapples’ are — their signature pastries. If I didn’t live 2 hours away, I’d be there all the time for their pastries!
