I wanted to try this place b/c it said it was one of the oldest pizza shops in town. Being from the north east, it was just menza menza as my grandmom would say. The mozzarella sticks were gross. Obviously just frozen and thrown in the oven. The marinara sauce was ok but the white pizza needed garlic. We went on a Friday during lent so we couldn’t get anything with meat. I might go back and try something different next time but my overall experience was just mediocre.

Go go go go! This place is a Huntsville staple and classic for a reason. If you don’t like it, then you just don’t «get» this type of place. Food, service and drinks are always great and make me feel home.

We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and were quickly greeted. Our order did take longer than expected to come out, but the menu says their older ovens are slower. Just don’t be in a big hurry if you plan on eating here. I ordered a calzone which was quite large. Two people could easily eat one, so I got two meals out of it. My husband got a small pizza which was just as much food. Both were very delicious! We will definitely be back!

Huntsville’s oldest pizza place. Excellent food and service. I recommend the buffalo chicken pizza or the bacon cheeseburger burger.

This a traditional«mom and pop» place. The food is all homemade, the staff is related and invested in their business, and the atmosphere is very family oriented. The cheese bread and marinara sauce is my favorite thing, but the pizza is amazing as well. It is not Little Caesar, it won’t come out at the speed of light cuz they make things as you order them. It is worth the extra few minutes for the effort involved. Call ahead for quicker service, they are happy to get you going, and they offer take out too. Grub South will also deliver for a small service fee.

Awesomeness. Hands down the best pizza in town! It’s a place that’s always packed. Be prepared to wait for your pizza even if it’s not packed. The pizza is worth the wait.

One of Huntsville’s landmark pizza stops. There Hawaiian pizza is hands down my favorite pizza of all times. My family & friends have been frequenting here for years. If you ever go through Huntsville, give Big Ed’s a try and you will definitely be back for more.

The pizza overall is really quite good, but they use canned mushrooms(well, they could come in glass, but unlikely) and as if that’s not bad enough, they do not drain them well enough and the water from them tends to make the pizza just a little bit«soaky» wet… it does not affect the taste much, but the feeling of wet crust in your mouth is … well, gross kinda.

Only once before have I been so unsure of a rating. My first time there today, and I’m torn. I loved the 60’s mom n pop local pizza hangout ambiance(think«Happy Days»). Hanging out there with friends on a Friday night and drinking beer and listening to the juke box would be terrific. The vibe is one of the best I’ve seen/felt in town. The pizza itself, though, I’d rate as a 2. Baked slowly in a seasoned gas oven from the 60’s, the unusual aroma from the oven was actually appealing. Different. Vintage pizza, if you will. The crust was charming… Crispy, perfectly baked, and looked like what a pizza place in an Italian village would serve. But it was completely tasteless. For the taste, I rate it is 0. I even lifted up the cheese to see if they forgot to put sauce on it. There was some, but very little. I ordered onions on it, and while I say kudos for covering the pizza with onions(just the way I like it), even they were tasteless. I’ll be back to try the calzone, and hope it has flavor. I want to love this place, so it’s definitely worthy of another try.

It is a perfectly adequate pizza place. Nothing really to write home about, but as options in Huntsville go it deserves a rating of «A-OK». One pizza and two drinks plus tip totalled around $ 35. As much as I’d prefer to support a local restaurant, you’ll get a much better deal on a pizza of similar quality from a chain.

The calzones here didn’t use to contain ricotta which to a purist makes them something other than a calzone. They now do contain ricotta so all is right in the world. They are as delicious as ever. Maybe even better!

Big Ed’s is suppose to be the best pizza in Huntsville. Well I would have to disagree on that note. Or maybe it is, and I had it on a off night. The pizza was not fully cooked enough when it came out, making it too doughy. Some pizzas can be eaten this way but considering the other one we had was almost burnt it looked like. That making me wonder how do they serve it? The service we had was okay, the girl who took our order did not really seem to know the menu too well. I believe she mentioned she was new, so I will give just a little more slack on her.

Hot N Fresh! Excellent Pizza and Great Service! Perfect combo of crispy thin crust, sauce, and toppings. Closest to NY style pizza I’ve had in Huntsville! Mmmmmmm!

Big Ed’s is the best pizza in Huntsville. Period. For take out — it’s a dream. We’ve ordered it for pick up — the Big 8(sub jalepenos for onions) and had it with a bottle of cab at home more times than I can count. The crust is crunchy, the sauce is spicy and robust, and the toppings are generous. But when you have the chance to join Big Ed’s for a sit down, you won’t be disappointed. Love the atmosphere with tons of windows, love the beer selection and the service is spot-on. Total win here. Blows Sam and Greg’s out of the water.

I came at lunch and there were just a few tables filled. I ordered a pepperoni and sausage calzone. The calzone was large enough to last me two meals, so for $ 8 with tax that’s a pretty good deal. The crust was a little overdone(see picture I added). I’m being picky in saying if it were a pizza crust that was a little too crispy I would have been happy but I enjoy the soft pocket texture of a calzone. I thought that the calzone itself was lacking a little flavor. I couldn’t figure out if it was the toppings or the crust that was a little bland. My husband ate my leftovers and together we decided that maybe the toppings weren’t adding the flavor we so desired. He did say that he thought the sauce was really good. I wouldn’t mind returning to try a pizza because if they brown up the crust on that it should be good. And maybe I would get enough toppings for there to be a party of flavor. I’m sure if I were a drinker this would be my happy place. The staff was friendly and that’s a plus. I wouldn’t deter you from going here and it certainly seems like from the other reviewers they have a good following, BUT I just know I’ve had much better calzones elsewhere.

I grew up in Huntsville and get to go back a lot to visit my mom. I have loved Big Ed’s from as far back as 1967 when I first discovered it. You can always know that you are going to get a great pizza for sure and anything else on the menu will be great as well. Being a family owned business, they really do care if you are happy with your food and service. My wife, son, mom and I were in Big Ed’s last Friday Night(¼/2013) and it was packed. They had two employees call in sick with the flu which is bad right now. We saw they they were behind cleaning up tables, so we just started cleaning tables off for people to sit. We feel that we are part of the«Big Ed’s» family and we always want to help if they need it. After we got seated, we watched people come in and just stand by a table that needed cleaning off until someone came by and cleaned it off. This is a wonderful place where you are part of the family. You’ve seen on the Food Network where they go to a dinner and a customer with a coffee pot comes by and refills your coffee cup, That is the type of place this is and you’ll love it. You’ll love your pizza and it will always have plenty of toppings, cheese and flavor. The selection of beer is good and always cold, plus is you like southern sweat tea, they have plenty of it for you. I hope you try it when your in Huntsville, or if you live there, go by and try it. Everyone there loves working at Big Ed’s and you’ll know it.

Big Ed’s Pizzas has been around forever and that just doesn;t happen by accident! This is a great place, great food and great staff! I have eaten there a dozen times over the last couple of years and have been very happy every time. I always start with a salad(which is great, even though it is simple) and then a pizza. A pitcher of Yuengling is always a must, too. They have more than the usual Bud Light on tap… yay! The service is perfect to me. You walk in and sit where you please and someone is quick to acknowledge you. After that, they take your order, get your stuff to ya and then check in from time to time. If you want a server hanging around your table, making chit chat conversation or checking in on you every three minutes, then the service may not be up to your standard. Pizza takes a bit to get to the table, but it’s worth the wait. You can call ahead and they will get it started for you if this is an issue.
