I’m not sure why it’s called«sixteen brothers»; they certainly couldn’t fit here. S16H is nice enough, but it’s hard to justify five Mexican groceries within walking distance of one another, particularly when the quest to discover what each one has that the others don’t leaves one in a constant state of perplexity. However, if your choice is between this and La Frontera II, RUSHHERE. The establishment has many things you’ll commonly find in Mexican supermarkets: a good assortment of Bimbo products; Abuelita and Casero Hot Chocolate; a considerable Spice selection; imported Cookies of all stripes; Goya products; La Costeña and Doña Maria Moles; and a small-to-average-sized produce area. There is a very nice, indeed extensive, cold beverage area; Jarritos feature prominently, as is to be expected. A cool place to nip in and grab yourself one for the road. Pan Dulce is shipped in from its sister store on Jordan Lane, La Noche Buena, so it’s a bit fresher than any found in the other four stores. However, I still prefer La Colonial’s bakery to La Noche Buena’s. This is, however, more convenient(depending on where you live) than driving out to Jordan Lane, so weigh your wants and needs. I think this used to be a butcher shop or meat market of some time before La Congeneida, which preceded S16H, which still shows up online, though it no longer exists. You can see the former title behind the current one on the façade.
