Not bad and probably my future lodging of choice when fishing the Huron basin of Lake Erie. Very accommodating. Room for your boat, cleaning tables. The owner is very personable. Rented a room, not a cabin. Neat, clean, comfortable, affordable. Not as close to the ramp as other lodging options, but that’s an attraction, IMO. Still close to all the area attractions. Quiet. Walked around the property, it’s on the water, there’s spots for your camper. If my kids were still small & interested in hanging around with their Dad, I’d bring ‘em here for a weekend or two, :).

It kind of pains me to write this review. This place has so much potential, as it is right on Lake Erie and features cute little white cabins along an alley of trees. Unfortunately, this was the worst motel I’ve stayed in in a long while. The(perhaps overly) friendly owner suggested restaurants for us, but failed to mention that they would ALL be closed on a Monday night– the only open eatery in Huron was the Pied Piper, an ice cream stand that microwaved some BBQ sandwiches for us. Our room was right off the road, and the light outside the window meant sleeping masks were a must. The room smelled as old as it looked, but the real dealbreaker for me was turning down the sheets and finding at least 20 various hairs(of all types… if you will) between my sheets. The other bed only had one long hair, but mine was a cornucopia of other people’s DNA. Even though I told myself it was just a static issue, I have never bundled up so much for a hotel bed– I slept with a hood up and only my face and hands exposed. The selling point for this place is the lakeside venue– and it was the best part of the stay. There is a small beach on the property and the sunset was spectacular.

I love all things retro and quaint, and this motel fits the bill. It offers tiny cottages built in the 1940s, and you can just imagine couples taking their honeymoon here. While the cottages have a great deal of character and fit into the«adorable» category well, the décor and care taken are a bit lacking. It smelled quite musty when we first got in(though that passed once we turned on the A/C unit), and my husband had to say, «Umm, you probably shouldn’t sit in that chair.» It didn’t look clean at all! Our cottage looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed(and that the people before us brought a pet, which is permitted on the premises for a tiny fee of $ 12). The linoleum in the bathroom was broken and dirty(and the shower didn’t look all that clean, either, though the toilet had a sanitation strip on it), and we had a fussy light in the bathroom that wouldn’t stay on(though you could touch it and it would cooperate?). We slept really well, despite sheets that were on the scratchy side. The lake access is teeny-tiny — just a bit of sand and some rocks — but you could throw out a fishing line there if you really wanted to. There’s a pretty view of the lake from the end of the drive. Despite it being Bike Week, we had no problem with noise until the bikers started to leave at about 6am, so we appreciated the quiet. Considering the low, LOW prices and the proximity to the lake, fishing spots, Cedar Point, and even Marblehead, I might be willing to stay here again. I just have to tell myself that it’s all about the character…
