This place was bad. They gave us a total of maybe 10 chips after having to ask for them. I’ve never been to a mexican restaurant that doesn’t give you a basket of chips and salsa straight away without having to ask for it. I ordered the chicken nachos and my fiancé ordered a torta. My nachos arrived and they just looked gross. I gave it a chance and it tasted worse than it looked. I couldn’t even eat them. The chicken was obviously from a can and tasteless, the cheese was overly processed, the sour cream looked like it came out of a toothpaste tube. The one star is for the torta.

Hubby and I tried the torta, nachos, fries, and burrito. Everything was gross. I got the worst food poisoning i have ever had in my life from the torta.

I really wanted to love this place, I really did. I am from Mexico and the HEB seriously lacks good mexican food. My husband and I went there and there was only 1 other table with people in it. The staff was very friendly and the waitress took our order quickly. We noticed the prices were a bit out of whack… the prices didn’t make sense to me. A plate of huevos rancheros was like $ 7.50 when in every other Mexican place of that kind you pay about $ 5.00. I don’t know how they figure the pricing but it doesn’t seem competitive to me. We ordered a torta and some gorditas. It took 20 – 25 minutes to get our food, we kept looking at each other thinking our heads were roasted chicken and hotdogs like in Bug’s Bunny cartoons, we were starving. When we got our food we discovered it wasn’t anything special. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things, perhaps their other dishes are better. All I know is that I am not dying to find out.

I have to preface my 4 star rating by putting things in context. This is a small family owned restaurant along Pipeline road in Hurst. Nothing fancy. It serves basic Mexican food such as tacos, burritos, menudo, tortas, etc. and from what I have had thus far does a pretty damn good job. I came in here to test the waters and was pleasantly surprised. It’s clean and appealing. Friendly staff. Most items are a la carte. No baskets of chips and salsa to munch on before you eat. No fountain drinks. You order at the front and they bring your food to your table. Mexican and traditional sodas in cans and bottles. I had the street tacos($ 1.25 each) rolled in corn tortillas and they were delicious. They come in 5 varieties; fajita beef/chicken, pork, chorizo, barbacoa and lingua(beef tongue). I passed on the beef tongue but tried the other tacos. The meat is flavorful and tender, the pork the same and the chorizo is a close second to my grandmothers. I can’t wait to try their breakfast. They serve huevos rancheros and chorizo with eggs. On Mondays they have caldo de Rez! On the weekends they have menudo. The prices are reasonable. Not cheap but not crazy high. This will be a new culinary destination for me. So as far as small, family owned Mexican restaurants goes I’ll stick to my 4 star rating.

This used to be Fortune Cookie Express so when we saw that a Mexican place opened we had to try it. We went for lunch. I had the pastor tacos with rice and beans and a Mexican Coke, it was $ 9.93. Pretty expensive. The food was really fresh and good. Not, OMG I have to have it everyday, but a place every couple of weeks. The gorditas only came with meat, onions and cilantro and are $ 2.00 a piece. They were good but small. Two with rice and beans is enough for the average person. Rice is $ 2.00 and beans are $ 2.00 so ask for their specials or it’s pricy. Fresh guacamole but not homemade tortillas. Not too shabby.
