Almost immediately after finishing up our ridiculously huge meal at Roy’s, we were heading back across town toward the hotel and I suggested that it might make sense to stop by Sonic for some dessert. We’d passed it on our way over to Roy’s, and the lure of a cherry limeade was like a siren call. Diligently, the boy chauffeured us over and parked in a stall while I figured out what we’d order. Excitingly enough, Sonic has apparently since upgraded since I was last at one — now you can push a button to order, then you can pay immediately at the stall by swiping a credit card! I don’t remember this kind of technology being implemented before! Whee — small cherry limeade and an Oreo Blast on the way, all without having to move from our seats in the car! This was a concept that was entirely foreign… and apparently disapproved of by our Brazilian friend. «Wait… you like fast food — bad fast food — and you want to eat it in your car? How depressing!» I tried to explain the wonders of the tater tots, and how amazing it is to be brought your food without even leaving your car. I tried talking up the wonders of a well-made cherry limeade, or about how superior my Oreo blast was to a DQ Blizzard. All to no avail. And by the way… this Sonic makes a cherry limeade right: it came with a real cherry and a real lime wedge in it. Not quite as impressive as the Route 44s I remembered back in my high school days in Arkansas, filled with crushed ice, at least three or four slices of limes and cherries. Still, totally acceptable. Now how do we go about importing a Sonic to DC?
