I have been a client of Lucy’s for 6 years and I must say she has always done a great job on my hair. I never have hair lost along the edges of my hair. This is really important to me. She make sure that the hair is not pulling where you lose braids easily. I would keep my braids for 6 months with out having to get a touch up. I would always recommend her services.

I went to this salon that I’ve been to before for micro braids and she did a great job on the micro braids. I went to her on Feb 7th to get spring/bomb twists. She charges $ 180 for spring twists. I purchased Eon hair for spring twists and I have had to go back to her 3 times for her to re-twist. I’m just so angry. I am taking them out this weekend and getting Nubian twists from another shop. Disappointed and frustrated. I don’t have time to go to her shop everyday after work for her to re-twist of fix. I would have preferred she take them down and do a style she is familiar with.

The is also a barber at Lucy’s — Reginal — and he does an excellent job and I highly recommend him. Being a white male I can’t tell you much about braids but I can tell you Lucy is a super nice person who works hard to make sure every customer is happy with the results.

This review may not be fair because(1) I have not found a braider in Austin that provides the same types of braids that I had in California.(2) Lucy is the 5th braider I’ve been to in the last 2 years. Yes, 5th.(3) the person that last braided my hair was not Lucy herself(4) I go into my appointments with a HUGELY tangled Afro so they have a bit to work with when I walk in the door. I typically get microbraids. Micro as in SMALL. In California, it takes 2 people 11 – 12 hours to braid my hair. I have yet to find a braider in Austin who spends more than 5 hours with me. Lucy is in Hutto, which means I take a 35 minute drive to get to her. To her credit, Lucy’s shop is fairly professional and she does a great job of making clients feel welcome. Although she’s a bit pricey for Austin, she is cheaper than what I pay in California. I experienced no pain(which is a huge plus!) and she often has the hair in her shop in case I don’t get a chance to buy it. Since I come to her out of a natural state, she recommends I get curly/wavy hair, but I prefer straight. She worked with me and did a pretty good job on my first visit, so I had no problem going back. Apparently I pushed my damn luck. I guess Lucy contracts braiders so I had another woman do my hair this time. She asked me if I wanted my hair braided all the way to the end and I said no. She thought I meant that I didn’t want all my hair in the braid, so there are giant tufts of my naturally puffy hair hanging out of these smooth braids. Of course, they start braiding in the back so she was more than ¾ of the way done before I realized what she was doing. WTF? Why in the hell would anyone who gets their hair braided prefer to NOT have it braided all the way? Lucy saved the day and said she would finish the braids if I came back another day at no additional cost. When I returned, Lucy looked at the braids and said she was disappointed in how the other braider did my hair and wanted to redo most of it at no additional cost. Normally, I would applaud her dedication to customer service but(1) I had no desire to spend another 70 minutes in the car to get my hair fixed. Again.(2) I had no desire to spend MORE money on hair and(3) I was getting my hair braided before my cruise and I didn’t have the time or the patience to get it done. Big Mistake. I had braids falling off my head like deck chairs on the Titanic. My hair looked horrible the entire trip and it was very frustrating as I spend most of the time in water. Do I recommend this shop? Sure, if you make sure to get your hair braided by Lucy herself.
