First time at Shortcake Bakery and certainly not the last. I biked by the place but didn’t think to stop by until I read all the great reviews. Tried the blueberry scone, apple turnover and spicy Jamaican beef patty. All delicious! They make their baked goods all on the premises. There are a few tables inside but I can see how it can easily get crowded. As mentioned by others, parking is available but limited depending on time of day. The staff was very accommodating and explained what they made and better known for – the three items I bought. Would highly recommend them and will definitely be back for more… this time with my wife.

Living around the corner doesn’t help since I seem to find myself visiting Shortcake. The scones are amazing. Try any of the scones but the blueberry scones and croissants are is excellent. Seems like the Jamaican beef patties are on my to-try list from what I read here. I’m looking forward to it! Until then I highly recommend anyone and all stop by for homemade local treats.

The Jamaican Beef Patties are delicious, flaky, flavorful, and pricey. Worth 5 stars, but the price is …

Cute little local place with fantastic service. Staff is welcoming as soon as you walk in. We got four different flavors of cupcakes to try — the Bailey’s, Carrot Cake, Red Velvet, German Chocolate. The Carrot Cake was the clear favorite among our group of 3, followed by the Bailey’s and German Chocolate. The Red Velvet was a little underwhelming. I also had a vanilla latte, which I thought was perfect with the cupcakes. I will definitely be going back as it’s a convenient local place and next time I’ll be trying some of the bread and patties — both looked delicious! Would definitely recommend popping in for a treat sometime!

I have had some of the best baked goods here. First of all, the owner and staff are always so pleasant. The cakes are perfectly baked, cupcakes are outstanding, soft, moist, and flavorful! I have never been disappointed here. Also, the beef patties and chicken patties are awesome! A must for the locals and visitors!

I stopped in to get my chocolate fix and I was not disappointed. Luckily I had cash on me(for once) because there was a minor glitch with the credit machine so they only took cash at the moment. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and her husband. They were very very nice and friendly people. I’m not sure about the time of day that I went because I didn’t see too many selections, but what I was able to purchase I did enjoy. I visited another time to try out the beef patties and they were certified delicious by my Caribbean boyfriend. Overall, I will be stopping by again and recommending it to anyone in the area that needs a bakery or any baked goods.

Stopped at this cute little pink building off the whim one day and I’m so glad I did! They are located on Rhode Island Ave. not too far from the court house, the parking lot is VERY small so plan accordingly. I usually pop in during the morning hours before 11am and it is never super busy. I love the feel of this place because of it’s calm nature and chic, stylish feel. The owner is typically there every day(sorry I don’t know her name) but she is truly amazing just as her workers. Never have I been greeted with anything but a smile! I’ve had the pleasure of eating there cupcakes(chocolate and vanilla), chocolate cookies(super soft and very good), guava and cream cheese croissant(mouth droolingly delicious!!!) and the infamous beef patty(Awesome!). They cook all of there croissants, patties and pastries alike first thing EVERYMORNING so that your food is always fresh! The dough for the croissant and patty is so freakin delish it’s crazy! I swear I’m biting into a little piece of bakery heaven when I am eating there! The customer service is on point and consistent! Prices are perfect. They also serve coffee, latte’s and tea. Oh yeah! I did try the Caramel Macchiatto my last visit and it did not disappoint! If you are in the area and looking for a quick snack, dessert or little bite to eat this is the spot! I’m pretty sure you will walk out happy!

I ordered a coconut pineapple cake last week to pick up last Saturday. From start to finish, the customer service was great and the cake was delicious. Moist and fluffy and perfectly sweet(vs overly sweet). I only wished I lived closer! Ooh and may I request a coconut lemon cake be added to the list?!

Cute and scrumptious little bakery! Stopped in to kill time on a rainy day while my car was getting fixed down the street. The curry patty was SO good, and my mocha was delicious as well. I’m sure I’ll be back!

Three words: Jamaican Beef Patties. Go get them. They may be a bit spicy for those who don’t love spicy food, but my 6-year-old can devour one with a glass of milk. Flaky, savory, well-seasoned, & perfect for on-the-go eating. Oh & there are some delisshhh sweets to be reckoned with as well. Turnovers, scones, cookies, cakes, etc. Plus an espresso machine. It’s fantastic.

Not a mass production bakery. Just delicious friendly local bakery that sells her love in food to you. Stop and ask, whats fresh, whats available and you will get all the honest answers. I sampled a hodge-podge of what ever was fresh and my total bill with a cup of coffee was under $ 10.00. There was nothing to hide, just wonderful friendly food.

I randomly stopped by the Shortcake Bakery while walking in the neighborhood. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. After seeing that they made Jamaican beef patties, I had to try it. At first, I was skeptical and expected the same disappointing«beef» patties offered by chains like Golden Krust, but all my doubts vanished after the first bite. I was blown away by the quality and deliciousness of the patties. The crust was flaky and the meat was seasoned to perfection with the right amount of spice. This little bakery is a gem. I’ll definitely be returning to get more patties and to try out their other baked goods.

Literally the best brownie I’ve ever had. Good combination of chewy, fudgy, w a thin flaky crust. Perfection. The rum pound cake is very good too. Moist.

Best of its kind in the area. It’s a little gem for the neighborhood. All their stuff is fresh and bringing some class to hyattsville. Has the bear claw & guava turnover both were great.

Twice in a day! On our«cheat» day, we visited in the morning. Everything is made onsite. The blueberry scone was the best I ever tasted. The softest scone ever! The chocolate croissant was so fresh but not greasy. We over indulged and got two homemade Jamaican meat patties(one chicken and one spicy beef). We walked to the bakery and back home and everything was gone by the time we got back. We also picked up fresh baguette for our soul food bahn mi’s later. After reading reviews about the lemon pound, be decided to pay a late lunch visit. We shared a slice of spinach and feta quiche. It was excellent and the crust was phenomenal. We shared a piece of rum pound, to die for. Very moist. Walked away with a slice of cheesecake for later! Will visit once a week or I’ll be broke and fat!

I have been coming to Shortcake since they’ve opened. Have had many pies cakes for all the holidays or for that special occasion. I have never been disappointed. From the lemon pound cake or their carrot cake.

Hard to add much more to what’s already been said. Wonderful(and inexpensive) sweet and savory pastries, fresh coffee, and a cozy dining area. Rightly lauded for their beef patties by Washingtonian Magazine in 2014( ), this place is a treasure and deserves more local attention. I hope it’s here for years to come.

What a cutie-pie place(pun intended)! Friendly vibe inside. Fantastic prices. Everything I bought was quite good; here’s my check list: Apple turnover: light and flaky, and just the right size, too. Chocolate chip cookie: yummy and earthy, even. Snickerdoodle cookie: careful balance of sweetness and spice, not overly baked. Jamaican beef patty: it looks ordinary however it is anything but – I am possibly addicted already. Coffee: Ethiopian brew – it rocked! Colorful inside and out. Can’t miss it. What’s not to like?!

Stopped here this afternoon for a little snack, which included a chocolate chip cookie, an apple turnover, and a molasses cookie. The man who waited on me I think is one of the co-owners and he was very nice and helpful. The choc chip was underwhelming– I mean, you could tell that it was made that morning… but would have been better fresh out of the oven(of course!). I enjoyed the molasses cookie– you could tell it was definitely fresh! The turnover was my absolute favorite though! I threw it in the microwave for about 15 seconds when I got home– It was flaky and just the right amount of crispy on the outside. The inside was delicious without being overwhelming with apple. Loved it! Wanted to buy a slice of apple pie, but they only had a whole one for sale… I’ll be back to try it later though because it looked amazing!
