My 5 stars all go to the tamales! Ordered just one to start, but I had to get two more after I tasted the first. Wow! I can’t wait to eat there again!

The first time we stumbled upon this hidden gem was on Easter Sunday in 2007. Our dinner was cancelled because my Father in Law was in the hospital, and we just happened to see cars there when no one else was open. At that pount, there was no menu… you just said what you wanted and they made it. And boy, do they make it! Since they are also the local Mexican grocery store, all of the ingredients are super fresh, and the food is authentic home style texmex cooking, just like our friends Moms cooked. My husband swears by the tamales, and if I’m within 15 miles of Imlay City, there is a standing order from him to pick some up. They do have a menu now… on a chalkboard. The Carne Asada tacos are my personal favorite, along with a fresh bowl of guacamole… the best! Spanish TV is always on, and the crowd is usually mostly local laborers having lunch or dinner, with a family visit and little girls twirling around… very homey. We always leave with a smile, some takeout for another meal, and groceries. I’ve dined in a lot of major cities accross the country, and this is in my top 10 for consistently awesome, delicious, perfectly prepared food. It’s sort of a secret how good it is, and we love it just the way it is.

The best authentic tacos and other Mexican fare in Imlay City! Just like I had when I visited Mexico. Highly recommended.

This adorable family owned restaurant, bakery and Mexican grocery store is one of my favorites. Featuring daily specials throughout the week. I am favorable towards the tacos, they offer steak, marinated pork, chorizo, and lengua. My personal favorite is the Lengua taco(stewed cow tongue) topped with cilantro and chopped onions, lime wedge on the side. Each order comes out with a variety of salsas. The avocado salsa is tangy with a small hint of spice and cilantro. Not always available. Their baker and part owner Dora has developed a fish taco. She gracefully balances the flavors of marinated onions, tempura battered cod and a cilantro cabbage coleslaw. I often place avocado or guacamole on the taco. These are stunning! A family owned restaurant, often served by the owners family of three generations. A small mexican grocery store to pick up mexican staples. not an extensive selection but they do offer a fresh meat, avocados, peppers, limes etc. I have not tried the baked goods, but if they are as good as everything else I received from Jalisco I might just rethink my idea of eating donuts.
