Recently visited to try the newly advertised addition of a BBQ menu. The whole experience with the exception of the half rack of baby back ribs was off-putting. There are several small tables in a living room setting. Unfortunately the living room looks that that one aunt’s house that keeps are her memorabilia and junk mail cluttered in the living room. We were greeted nicely and sat at one of the small tables. While we were at the table I started to notice an odd smell. After trying to locate it I realized it was from the ends and odds stored in the book cases next to us. Like the other review we got our Shasta drinks served to us. Then we ordered from a small menu. You get to order the entrée which comes with beans and cornbread and a choice of salads. I ordered potato salad and the hubby the green salad. The potato salad was bland, if I’m being polite. It was hard to stomach. Of course the odor of the room could’ve played a part in that. We soldiered on to the entrée and I was not disappointed with the ribs. The hubster on the other hand was not impressed with the dry and overcooked brisket. Neither one of us cared for the beans out of the can. You could hear the microwave ding multiple times while our dinner was being prepared. Needless to say it was a terrible price to pay for a microwaved meal. If you do go see what they will charge you for just the ribs.

TERRIFYING. Not only one of the most awkward dining experiences of my life, one of the most awkward experiences in general. We were greeted at the door of an empty restaurant by, what one can assume, was family to the owner. The conversation was as follows: Waitress: Hey! What would you like? Me:(Having not seen a menu, and being a first time patron) My girlfriend and I are here for lunch! W: What will you be having? M: I’m… Not sure, what do you have? W: We have sandwiches, and soups, stuff like that. M: Uh… What… Kind of sandwiches?(Still awkwardly standing in the thresh hold of the restaurant) W: Well, our menu is over there. So, go ahead. After the awkward exchange, my girlfriend and I made our way to the counter, where we were promptly ignored for a few minutes. We had time to look the menu over, but when the owner(I’m assuming) came out, he felt the great need to explain everything in excruciating detail. Some other customers have formed a line behind us, and the owner did the same thing with them, when it was their turn. Every single one of them looked pained in this awkward experience. So, we ordered sandwiches. I believe I had a turkey and tomato, and my girlfriend had a Sicilian wrap. It took TWENTYMINUTES to bring out TWOSANDWICHES. The other customers left, so it wasn’t like they were extremely busy. My turkey/tomato sandwich was a dry as Turkey(joke about the country Turkey being a mostly arid climate), and her wrap was, in her words, «mediocre.» It was mostly cheese, with a few leafs of veggies here and there. And we both ordered a root beer. Here’s my favorite part: We order root beer? THEGUYBRINGS A CANOFSHASTAROOTBEERTOOURTABLEANDFILLSONEGLASS. Then goes to get another glass, and fills it up for me. He charged us for refills after it, too. The food wasn’t good, the service was worse, and the overall experience was just… just… awful. To anybody looking to get a quick bite? Drive a bit further. Go to Dallas. Or Salem. Literally anywhere else. I feel bad giving a locally-owned and operated restaurant a bad review. But this place deserves it. Go elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I stopped in to grab some coffee here while on a quick road trip. I have to say it’s the strangest and most uncomfortable experience I’ve had in a coffee shop in a long time. We were the only people in the shop and it took the man behind the counter about 15 minutes to make our coffee because he was too focused on asking us strange questions and making weird what I assume we’re supposed to be puns/jokes. I appreciate good customer service to a great extent but something about his questions and mannerisms made me feel very uncomfortable. The coffee ended up being fine but I have to say I was more than happy to get the heck out of there once he was done. If you’re looking for a small town, kitschy shop then this would be a good place to go but just be prepared for some awkward/uncomfortable conversations.

I have been to this place a couple times and the service is very nice and cheery and loves to talk his happy talk BUT… 1. they offer Lattes and Mochas but when I ordered one I had to wait for someone to get back to make it because the counter person did not know how. 2. another time, my muffin was moldy. I have been there and enjoyed the food but I probably won’t go back, which is sad because he is so nice!

It’s a beautiful spring day in the Willamette Valley, and after a great morning and afternoon of riding you find yourself in Independence(which is not a bad place to find yourself in) and you’re hungry and low on caffeine… and it’s the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday and not much is open… and there’s this place«2EZ Café» on the corner across from the park. OK, we’re on, let’s check it out. The guy behind the counter is working his tail off and he’s clearly the owner and having a good time. He really likes this place, he likes this town, and he likes people. So what’s to eat? We’ll go for a Philly panini(thin sliced beef, tasty cheese, bell pepper, nice and hot) and a slice of quiche(ham and cheese), both with soup. The soup is «Italian wedding» soup which has beef and pearl pasta. So how did we do? The food was quite acceptable, and given that it was late on a Sunday afternoon, better than I could have hoped for. Espresso was good, very fresh, Allen Bros. beans so local product. The best part is the service: the guy loves what he’s doing, and he gave us a very impressive talk on what’s new in Independence and what a great place it’s becoming, he’s definitely a civic booster. The menu includes baked goods, pastries, Italian sodas, the usual deli items. They also do catering. So if you’re on the road, it’s odd hours, and you need something sustaining to keep you going, this is one of those places that you want to know about.
