Country, wholesome and warm. This place is the place you see in movies where family’s gather for a warm cottage home cooked meal. Tonight was pretty busy which made the waitress a little stressed but all is well. I came with a big family group and we were hungry. The wait was again a little long but thankfully we were getting ready anted after years of never seeing my family. I ordered the grilled chicken dinner with mashed potatoes. The potatoes came with gravy on it and the chicken was a typical flat stove or pan grilled chicken. Not too much flavor to it but it suffices. I topped it off with a little bowl of fruit, rolls and a hot tea. They don’t have a selection of teas other than the regular Lipton black tea. It was a nice warm dinner and I was satisfied, I don’t know what else to say. Maybe I’d just have to try something else that has a little more flavor to it. Spiced atleast… Happy eating everyone

This was our first time here and I was excited with the selection of foods to choose from. I was debating on whether to get breakfast or a dinner plate. I decided on grilled chicken and some veggies for something a little on the healthier side, I should have gone with the breakfast. My husband got the french toast and he liked it. I ate maybe half of my little chicken breast because a good portion was bloody which really turned me off. My green beans were good but the broccoli was on the cold side. I was really bummed because the restaurant smelled delicious. I don’t think we will be coming back here anytime soon.

Eaten here lots of times for lunch & dinner but the last two times I’ve eaten breakfast & I’d have to say it’s very good compared to a lot of other places I’d have to say I like corner better then one of my usual picks & price not bad & the staff always so friendly !

Visiting from out of town, I randomly picked this place based on other reviews & their website. I am so glad I did! At 1230pm on a Sunday, the parking lot was full but they sat us right way. The service was very good– our server was prompt and had drink refills when ours were only half gone. My bf and I shared a cinnamon roll, which was giant and amazing. He couldn’t eat his French toast after all the sweetness of the cinnamon roll, but my burger was great! Very glad we stopped here, and I highly recommend!

Busy place with home-cooked style food. Had a basic breakfast(egg, hashbrowns, toast) from the lighter side menu. Attentive service, clean restrooms.

Food is good, especially breakfast, but nowhere near good enough to warrant parking 2 blocks away, walking, then waiting forever for a table. This is a common occurrence, especially on weekend mornings.

I have only eaten here twice but I really like this place. The service is good, staff is friendly, atmosphere is unique and the food is great. I ate here on a Sunday night recently and had the Pond Fried Catfish dinner. Not only was the catfish huge, but the coating was wonderful. If catfish isn’t cooked right it is wretched. But this was excellent! The mashed potatoes and onion rings were huge portions too. I usually don’t get onion rings at a sit-down restaurant but when I saw the next table get a huge plate(and the smell was so good!) I had to try them. And they were as good as they smelled. A large dinner roll came with the meal. It was very fresh and yeasty. To top it off I had the Banana Split Pie. It also looked as good as it tasted. I ate half of all my food and took the rest home. Their dinners can feed a giant, so make use of the to-go box! Yes, this seems to be the most popular restaurant in Independence. The parking was ok when I arrived at 7pm Sunday night. Most other times it is packed to the rafters.

Best breakfast in the area. Staff is fun. Managers are always walking in the dining area talking to people. I eat there 3 – 4 times a month.

Everything I have to say about this place is positive. The cinnamon rolls are crazy good, and are gigantic — probably around the same as 3 regular sized. As large as they are, they are not doughy in the middle — they are baked to perfection all the way through. Ample icing. Definitely a sweet treat to be split with 2 others. Biscuits are light, gravy is delicious. My son’s French toast was also very good. Service is excellent. Orange juice is NOT fresh squeezed, but it is fine, just not spectacular like it is at First Watch.

Best breakfast food is ever had! It’s as good as my grandmas. I always order the French toast and it is delicious! And there cinnamic rolls melt in your mouth. It’s more expensive then the nearby IHOP but it actually tastes good. Highly recommend this place

Second time here. Parking lot was packed at 1pm on a Wednesday, but we still got a table for 6 right away. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating. This place looks like a chain, kinda cracker-barrelesque, but I’m not sure it is one. The silo has a table in it, kinda neat. It took forever for our food to arrive. Everything was a bit on the expensive side for what it was, but it was still solid. The Mac and cheese had real cheese in it, not just American. The pork tenderloin tasted home-made. After dinner, our party split one of the huge cinnamon rolls, which is a good deal for $ 3.29. It came swimming in icing, which I felt could have used a bit more vanilla flavor, mostly just tasting like sugar, though the cinnamon roll had some pecan flavor to it. Ok place to go with your parents/grandparents. Just don’t expect the food to be exciting or different.

It wasn’t horrible but it’s a chain restaurant so the food was pretty generic. The place was very big and busy so not much atmosphere but my husband wanted to stop for breakfast and I was tired of McDonalds lol. Their cinnamon rolls are big and gooey but they really didn’t have much flavor. I had a spinach artichoke omelet and my husband had eggs and bacon. The omelet was a basic pre made cheese with way too much spinach folded inside with a side of cold hash browns. Maybe a different meal would have been better? I will say the thick slices of wheat toast they bake there were very good.

Our waitress was a cute drew barrymore looking kinda gal & charmed us with a warm smile like no other could. She recommended all our food choices & they were all delicious. For dessert she persuaded us to order that monster cinnamon roll drowning in icing…& it was like heaven sent an angel to my tastebuds. This was an all around great mid-western country-style restaurant experience… except…well…i gained 4 lbs afterwards.

I’ve been here several times and every time is excellent! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but I favor their omelettes and toast-get the toast, it’s life changing! Great with big or small groups and children, too!

Is this how you make your«homemade» scrambled eggs? Make ahead, slap a piece of American Cheese on top and then nuke? Then serve to your guest in a big«glob», so they can pick up the whole thing with just 1 fork? Well folks… I don’t serve my guests that way, for sure! But this is what I was just served this morning here at the Corner Café! Coffee was good, pork chop was processed. My husband liked the link sausage. Service was good! We will choose more wisely next time, driving thru KC!!!

Ok I can see why it’s crowded, the inside makes you feel like you stepped into a diner in the 1950s. The bar stools and booths were a shiny glittery red plastic. They have a motorcycle on display by the booth we were in that was very cool. The waitress was so nice and had a lot of patience. The food isn’t my taste. It’s greasy. I’m sure if you like places like Steak ‘n Shake you’ll love this. Most things were pricy.

Adorable place next to our Drury Inn… I’m not a huge cinnamon roll person but the one we got was enough for FOUR of us — and like it just came out of the oven, drenched in icing. Our waitress was outstanding — I got their tenderloin sandwich — absolutely delicious. My only complaint was that I couldn’t find one thing on the menu that wasn’t fried(I didn’t think what I ordered was actually, until I arrived). I ate it anyway and wasn’t disappointed but would like a few baked or grilled choices on the menu – although I didn’t find out if they would accommodate any requests like that either. I would definitely return!

Some family members and I went to Corner Café while we were visiting Kansas City, and it was a total mistake. Even though I had been leaning towards going to a local breakfast place, they said that Corner Café was a local chain, so I consented. Basically, it’s a local chain because they would be hard-pressed to find other customers for this bad version of a Bob Evans or Cracker Barrel. I will say that this is a seems like a popular place. We went there for brunch on Sunday, and it was pretty full. But at the same time, for whatever reason, that meant the service was extremely slow. Of course, it is the morning rush, but they should have enough servers to deal with the expected crowds. There was a very wide selection of foods, which normally is a bad thing because that means they’re not an expert at anything. The biscuits and gravy were just not appetizing in the slightest. You could just taste the texture of the flour, and that’s definitely not the way it should be. For entrée, I ordered the chicken-fried steak, which was wholly disappointing. Nothing here was good or worth the calories. Obviously, I do not recommend Corner Café. At the same time, there aren’t a bevy of amazing choices running around Independence, so perhaps this place is a necessary evil.

Tonights meals at the family table included the open roast beef sandwich, vegetable plate with cabbage, green beans, mashed potatoes, and cottage cheese, and two corner specials with pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The roast beef was tender. The cabbage and green beans were excellent. The gravies(cream and beef) both needed some seasonings. The kids loved the pancakes. The dinner roll was exceptional. Good for a family with a wide variety of preferences.
