The Englewood Café is a typical diner, and it’s fine for breakfast. Cheap food and no-frills is basically how I would describe this restaurant. Hadn’t really heard of this place before, but my friend suggested it to us. I would say this place is mainly like a Waffle House that we have in the South. The fried hash was fine, but I asked for my extra burnt, and they weren’t at all. Not to my liking. The service was very friendly, I definitely remember that aspect of Englewood Café more than the food.

FOODPOISONING Never eating here again. They sent my grandmother to the hospital for 2weeks with food poisoning!(campulobactor) ! Health department followed up on our complaint and found the raw scrambled egg mix sitting at 80° and being used! Save yourself and go elsewhere.

My husband and I felt like some good casual diner food, this place was awesome. It took me back to my younger days. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich and my husband had the catfish dinner. Everything was delicious and you won’t leave hungry. The staff were super friendly we didn’t want for anything. Since dinner was so good we went there for breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was excellent!

Ok, this place has arguably, one of the best tenderloin sandwiches in the greater Kansas City area. The tenderloin is one of those huge things but actually has tender meat inside the crispy outside. Love this with some horseradish and mayo, tomato and onion. I like the diner atmosphere too. The servers are friendly and efficient. My companion had meatloaf which was also delicious. I will have to come back.

I have eaten here a few times. Breakfast and Lunch are both good. Most meals are in the 7 – 9 price range. This is a local haunt, so be prepared for a wait on a table, especially on Sunday morning. I met a friend here on a Sunday morning and the place became packed right after we were seated. I have never had a fresh baked cinnamon roll like this place makes. It was piping hot, drowning in sweet icing on a plate. And my friend and I almost fought over it, it was so good! Some people would call this place a Dive as it is a small old building with a little parking lot, but it is Not a lousy place. It is clearly a favorite among the older folks and they frequent it. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is the crowding issue. It is hard to find parking and hard to get a table. But the wait is worth it.

Amazing breakfast! Quick food and priced reasonable! Would definitely come back if in the area. French toast with grilled ham was everything I wanted it to be. The staff was friendly and decked out in Chiefs gear for football Sunday!

Take your grandparents here, take your kid here, and anyone in between-they’ll all love it! Food is cheap. Portions are huge. Staff is nice. The location is adorable and an old time feel that you can’t find anywhere else. My ONLY critique was that it was freezing in there and made us want to leave fairly fast to get outside in the heat.

Inglewood café used to be one of the best. But after having been too little Richards I would say Inglewood Café is just average. The reason I post that is because the service is just average. The biscuits and gravy is still the best and Breakfast seems to be good but the dinner menus I just your basic run of the mill fare.

Not completely sure why I didn’t give a 5 Best and I do mean best burger in Independence it meets the big 3 criteria with me and any other burger lover 1. Big 2. Juicy 3. Tasty And if there is a 4th I would say it’s not the overpriced loud Red Bird one over by costco This burger will blow you away is it anything fancy, no its just huge. …bring your appetite because if not you may be asking for a box to take some home If you are looking for some swanky fancy place… This isn’t it… If you want a quiet place to talk and get a good meal for a fair price this is it

I’ve been here several times over the past couple of years, after stumbling on this gem quite by accident. This is definitely my kind of place! It’s cozy, has very friendly wait staff and most importantly, very good food! From what I understand, Englewood Café is a landmark in Independence. From the regulars you see, I can definitely understand why. You’re practically greeted by name when you enter. Even if they don’t know you, you’re definitely made to feel special the moment you arrive. I’ve only dined for breakfast, but the cooks do an excellent job. The portions are plentiful, very tasty and very reasonable. You have your choice of hash browns or chunked potatoes, wonderful omelets, fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon … Well, you get the idea! One of my favorites is the skillet, which has eggs, taters, your meat of choice, and cheese, if you so desire. It’s quite delish! This I’d truly a great place to have a cozy, comfortable meal and you won’t have to break the bank. So GO already!

Was so very hopeful eating here. I really was hoping for a good local café instead of eating at a chain. Here’s what we got… We get there for breakfast right when they open, they were not ready, no coffee and they seemed rushed and unfriendly. I was still hopeful for good food. They bring us coffee… wish Unilocal had a smiley spitting out coffee to put here as an emoticon, it was THE worst coffee I’ve had since that dirty little Kwicky Mart outside Waco. I ordered some«special» that was sausage gravy covering a biscuit topped with egg and sausage patties. Excellent idea everywhere else I have got this type of breakfast, not so here. The gravy tasted liked canned gravy with barely perceptible pieces of sausage in it. The sausage patties were about an eighth of an inch thick and very, very burned. This was THE single worst breakfast experience I’ve had since returning to KC. Won’t be returning.

I have lived in Independence all my life and frequent the Englewood Café. It has been through at least 3 owners since the original one retired. That being said, every owner has kept the down-home-country style fare and stayed true to the«Café» tradition. The breakfasts are fantastic and very well priced and the lunch and dinners likewise. In the Spring and Summer they have a SMOKEDBRISKETSANDWICH(hand smoked by the owner) that would make ANYBBQ expert jealous. It is huge, soooo tasty and you just roll your eyes when you take that first bite. The pies are scrumptious and decadent and worth it. If you are too full… get a piece to go. The only reason I gave it 4 is because many times the brown gravy is instant and they are too good for that.

Found this place thanks to a security guard at the Truman library. It’s your classic standard diner with excellent fare. I had the chicken and noodoes, my pops had the chicken fried steak and we shared a piece of apple crumb pie for desert. Everything was very delicious, matching the friendly atmospheric. A definite recommendation.
